Surprises at Gringgotts
~Bold~: Parseltongue
Harry got off the knight bus and looked at the Leaky Cauldron, smiling. "Thanks for the ride!" he thanked the driver and watched as the bus drove off before going into the Inn. He greeted Tom and made his way to the back. Once there he made sure his cap still hid his scar and tapped the pattern on the wall to reveal the entrance to Diagon alley.
He made his way over to Gringgotts and waited a moment to read the warning. "So if you seek beneath our floors a treasure that was never yours,Thief, you have been warned, beware, of finding more then treasure there."
He remembered the day he first came here, he was so young and naiv back then, believing everything Hagrid told him without questioning his believes. Everything because of the hope to leave the Dursleys, to finally find friends, be loved, happy and safe. Little did that small boy know what he would get himself into.
But he's here again now and this time he'll fulfill all the little boys wishes, no matter what.
Harry took a big breath and entered the bank. Thankfully nobody was here at this hour so he removed the cab and went over to a teller.
"Hello Master Goblin, I am Harry Potter and I would like to talk with my account manager. "The Goblin looked taken back by being addressed so formally and in proper etikette too and Harry started appreciating that one book he found about Goblin Culture in the Room of Requirement that much more. He would never understand how wizards could just look down on the race who single handedly controlled their entire wealth. But then again wizards are not known for their common sense.
The Goblin, after recovering from his initial shock, took a glance at his scar and called another Goblin over, saying something to him in Gobbledegook. "This is Sharpclaw, he will take you to Griphooks office." He said, going back to his work. "Thank you, Master Goblin, may your gold ever flow ."That any seemed to shock the Goblin more but he recovered quickly and answered accordingly. "And may your enemies tremble at your feet, mister Potter."
Harry followed Sharpclaw silently out of the entrance hall and through the countless twists and turns of Gringgotts. He looked around and admired the tall white marble walls and the beautiful golden details in them untill they stopped in front of a big golden door. Sharp claw knocked sharply before nodding once to him and leaving when a short "Enter." was heard from behind the door.
Harry opened the door and entered a big and luxurious looking study with all kinds of weapons on the wall, a beautiful white marble and golden fire place and two big armchairs in front of a big Hard Maple desk. Behind the desk was another big armchair in which a serious looking Goblin sat.
"Hello, Mister Potter, I've been waiting to meet you for a while now, have a seat." Harry sat down, noting that the armchair was as comfortable as they looked, and answered." Hello, Master Griphook."
"There is a lot I need to diskuss with you today, Mister Potter, but first, what brings you here today?" Harry was a bit confused about what Griphook wanted to talk with him about but didn't let it distract him. "I would like to find out about all the vaults and properties I own. Additionally I was made aware that I was named heir Black and would like to know what this means. "
At this, Griphook looked alarmed. "What do you mean you don't know what it means?" He took a deep breath and continued. "No matter, questions later , this is quite alarming, I'll need you to do an Inheritance Test. This is for multiple reasons. For one, to prove your identity, it will also tell us all your titles, properties and vaults and if anything strange happened to your accounts. After that we'll cover all the questions."
Now that raised a lot of alarm bells in Harrys head, an alarmed looking Goblin was never good, much less if it was an account manager and involved you." All right, what do I need to do?" Griphook pulled a parchment out and laid it on the table. "I have already prepared everything since I wanted to do this anyways. I will need 7 drops of your blood on the parchment, no more." Harry nodded and took the knife Griphook offered him. He cut his finger and let 7 drops fall on the parchment. After he was finished the cut healed and he gave the knife back. Now all he had to do was wait. He watched as the blood slowly spread over the parchment and formed words.

Harry, or was it Hadrian now (?), was shocked. Of course he was. He just found out his decisions were influenced at best and his emotions controlled at worst. On top of that, apparently, even his name and appearance didn't really belong to him. Not to mention his friendships were fake, he's been stolen from and he was rich but never told of that either. So, basically, his whole life was a lie. Yeah, Hadrian was peachy. Not.
He looked back up at Griphook." Please tell me all this is reversible." Griphook looked over the test and swore in Gobbledegook." Yes, Lord Potter, this is reversible, at least most of it. I'm afraid we can't do anything against the Horcrux." "That is fine, I already knew about it and have planned accordingly. I wish for everything ese to be removed. Take the money out of the Peverell Family Vault, I don't care how much it costs. Oh, and you may call me Hadrian, master Griphook." "Then you may leave the master, too. "Hadrian nodded in response.
Griphook got up and gestured for Hadrian to follow him. They left the study and went through more twists and turns, seriously why did Gringgotts have to be a whole damn labyrinth, and stopped in front of another huge golden door.
The first things Hadrian noticed upon entering the room were that it was huge, entirely made out of stone and that there were a lot of Goblins here. After that, he realised there were runes everywhere. The walls, the floor, the columns, even the ceiling was engraved with runes. He read up on runes during the tournament but he still couldn't decipher anything, but then again, he didn't know a lot, so that doesn't mean much.
Griphook called another Goblin over to them before introducing him. "Hadrian, this is Healer Barclaw, he will make sure everything unwanted is removed from your system entirely." Hadrian nodded. "Thank you Griphook." then he turns to Barclaw and bows slightly." It is an honor to meet you Healer Barclaw, thank you for your assistance today."
Barclaw gets over his initial surprise at the polite greeting quickly and nods. He gestures for Hadrian to follow him. "This way, Lord Potter." Hadrian quickly followed and they went to an empty corner of the room with a small bed.
"Please lay down, Lord Potter. Due to the extend of things that need to be removed, I have decided to use both a general purging ritual and a strong healing ritual for any mental, magical or physical damage done to your person. It will be painful for a moment before you will, undoubtedly, pass out. I suggest not fighting unconsciousness."
Hadrian nodded, appreciating the honesty and deciding not to question the Healer in order to get it over with as quickly as possible. He had no knowledge of healing anyway.
Barclaw started chanting something in Gobbledegook as soon as Hadrian laid down on the bed and the runes around them started glowing. True to the Healers words, Hadrian started feeling a burning pain all over his body and his vision went black.
When he woke up he felt better then he ever had. No aches, not even the slight pounding in his head that always accompanied him. Hadrian felt stronger than ever, too. Like he just got a huge boost in energy. Speaking of energy, he felt like he was way more in tune with his magic now. The next surprise came to him when he actually opened his eyes. He could see all kinds of colours swirling around in the air, but not only that, he could also see sharper than ever, despite not wearing his glasses. The rituals must have worked.
Hadrian got up and looked around. While Healer Barclaw and Griphook were nowhere to be seen (and yes, the colours are still weird, and will take some getting used to but that can wait for later, or, even better, tomorrow) he did see a full body mirror that he was sure wasn't there before.
Remembering that he had a glamour on him before, he went to the mirror to look at what changed. He was slightly relieved to find it wasn't much. First, his eyes, they were still green (thank god), but much brighter. They were now the exact shade of the killing curse and seemed to be glowing (?). Kinda creepy but it weirdly fit him.
His hair was probably the biggest difference, it was jet black and while it was still slightly wavy, it wasn't untamable anymore, not to mention, for the probably first time in his life, it looked healthy and soft. It certainly wasn't the famous untamable Potter hair he had before and he found himself being very happy about that. That hair had been a nightmare.
His skin was still pale but had a healthy shimmer it didn't have before. However, the change he was most excited about was that he grew a few inches. He wasn't small anymore! If he had to guess he was about average in height, maybe even a bit on the tall side (one can hope).
Just as Hadrian finished looking at all the changes. he noticed Barclaw approaching him. "I'm glad to see you have woken up, Lord Potter, before you ask, you have been asleep for about 3 hours. Everything unwanted has been removed from your person, and, on top of that, the healing ritual has fixed your eyesight and stunted growth together with the malnourishment. It has also removed nearly all scars. The only ones that still mar your body are the one on your forehead, however it is a bit harder to notice since it is now completely healed unlike before, and the one on your forearm. Upon further research I have found out it was caused by a Basilisk, thus can not be healed."
Hadrian nodded along, carefully listening and glad the Healer didn't ask questions." Do you have any questions, Lord Potter?" Barclaw asked. "Erm, yes, I see all those glowing lights and forms everywhere here? It is really distracting." "Ah, yes, that would be your magic sight, it was previously blocked. What you see is magic. Don 't worry, you will get used to it soon, Lord Potter." Hadrian nodded again, that made sense.
"I don't have any more questions, thank you, Healer Barclaw." The healer nodded. "I recommend a healthy diet, keep the food balanced and a few nutrition potions for now, once a week should be enough, just to be sure, Lord Potter."
Hadrian nodded again, he seemed to be doing that a lot lately, and made a mental note of the instructions, to make sure he remembers later. "Now that we're done here, please follow me, Lord Potter, Griphook is waiting for you in his study." Barclaw said, turning around and leaving. Hadrian quickly followed him and they walked back to the study he was previously. Just like before, the Goblin knocked and turned to leave as soon as the word "Enter." was heard. "Thank you, once more, Healer Barclaw, may your gold ever flow." "And your enemies tremble at your feet, Lord Potter. "With that, the Goblin left and Hadrian entered the study once more.
"Ah, welcome back Hadrian, please, sit down, how are you feeling?" Griphook gestured at the chair he used previously. Hadrian sat down and smiled at Griphook
"Better than ever, thank you Griphook."The Goblin nodded at that before taking the inheritance Test out once more.
"I 'm sure you're tired, Hadrian, but we still have much to discuss. However, since you have just gone through two rituals and considering the time, I suggest postponing everything that doesn't require your immediate attention. I just need you to claim your titles by putting on the rings and we need to go over the withdrawals, as well as the marriage contract today . Is there anything else that you wish to do today?"
Hadrian was relieved to hear that they wouldn't need to go through everything immediately because he just noticed how tired and hungry he actually was.
"Yes, I need a new place to live, so I would like to go over my properties. Additionally I would like some way to access my money without coming here every time and I wanted to know if there is a place to get a bird to send letters that is open right now? I'm afraid my owl is rather easy to recognize, so I need a second bird, however, she was quite adamant in it not being an owl."
Griphook looked quite amused at that. "There is a shop called 'Magical Pets and Familiars' downs in Knockturn Alley where I'm sure you'll find a bird that suits you. As for the other two, you can pay everywhere with your rings, but if you want something physical, I can give you a money pouch linked to all your vaults. You would simply have to put tour hand in and think about how much you want from which vault and it shall appear. The pouch costs 5 Galleons. We can go over your properties at the end." Hadrian nodded (yes, again). "I would like that pouch, take the money from the Peverell vault, please." Griphook reached a hand under his table and pulled a black money pouch out, laying it on the table. "Very well, here you go, one drop of blood to link it to your vaults," He laid a dagger next to the pouch and Hadrian took it, made a small cut on his finger and let a drop fall on the pouch.
The pouch lit up for a moment while Hadrians finger healed, and he took it, and put it into his pocket backpack. "Thank you, Griphook." Griphook nodded and pulled out 5 boxes. "Now for the rings. The Lordship rings go on the right ring finger and the heirship rings on your right middle finger. If they accept you, they will resize to fit you and merge together. You will start with the Lordship rings." Griphook opened three boxes to show three beautiful rings. "From right to left, the most powerful family first. That means first is Peverell, then Black and lastly Potter."
Hadrian took the first ring, the most beautiful out of them all in his opinion. The band was made out of a deep black Obsidian merged with silver in a design similar to marmor and had a avada kedavra green emerald in the middle, engraved with a triangle with a circle in it, and a line throng the middle. He put it on his right ring finger and immediately felt a shiver go through him. However, it didn't feel bad, instead it felt like he finally came home, it almost made him tear up. Suddenly the room went black and he saw a tall man with one eye just like his and one a blade so deep it felt like it was sucking your soul in. The man smiled at Hadrian and said only one sentence before everything turned back to normal with Griphook none the wiser. "Welcome home, my child." This time Hadrian really did tear up but wiped them before the Goblin noticed. The ring shrunk down and he picked up the next one.
This one had the band made entirely out of silver and an Obsidian in the middle engraved by three crows engraved in it. When he put it on, he felt like temperature in the room dropped, yet he wasn't cold. He heard three distant craws and felt a small breeze. It only lasted for a moment before the ring shrunk to fit his finger and merged with the Peverell ring.
After that Hadrian picked up the last of the three rings. It had a white gold band and a crimson Ruby engraved by a wolf. then he put it on he heard a wolf howling and suddenly, he could feel every single drop of blood in his body. As soon as it came was it gone, the ring resized and fused with the other two, yet it still looks like the Peverel Lordship Ring.
Grip hook seemed to notice him staring at his Ring(s?) and answered his unasked question. "Congratulations, Hadrian, you are now officially Lord Potter Black Peverell. The fused rings will look like the one that is most compatible with you but everyone who sees them will know which rings are fused. Now onto the heirship rings."
Grip hook opened the other two boxes. "As before, the right one first."
Hadrian picked up the Slytherin heirship ring and put it on his right middle finger. The band was entirely made of silver and looked like an Oroborus with a small Emerald between it's mouth and tail. When he slipped it on he could hear hissing that sounded like "Welcome, young heir. "and felt like smooth scales brushed against his skin. The ring resized to fit his finger and he picked up the last ring.
The Gaunt ring had a silver band engraved with scales and also an Emerald in the middle. Upon putting it on, he, again, hears some hissing that sounded like "Hello, new heir." and he felt like cold water was running down his skin. This ring, too resized and merged with the Slytherin one, keeping the Slytherin Rings appearance.
"Congratulations, Hadrian you are now also officially Heir Slytherin Gaunt. Now that that is managed, let us move on to the withdrawals." Giphook pointed at the part of the Inheritance Test saying 'withdrawals! "These are all the withdrawals without your presence, did you know of them?"
Hadrian read trough them again and felt his anger rise, but he shoved it into the back of his mind before he exploded." No, I did not know about any of them. I would like the money back, with whatever the maximum amount of interest is. "Griphook had a seriously terrifying grin at that. "As you wish, Hadrian. This, of course, costs you nothing as it is partly Gringgotts responsibility this even occurred. We will also make any and all keys unusable and change it so one needs the appropriate Ring to access a vault. Now onto the marriage contract, I assure you, Hadrian, that it is invalid as only the Lord of the house can make one." Hadrian breathed a sigh of relief. "Then please destroy it as soon as possible, Griphook." The Goblin nodded and pulled out a folder.
" Now, you mentioned you wished to move into one of your properties. I have checked, and found that all properties still have house elves and are thus in perfect condition and ready to move in. Do you have any preferences?" "Only that it is outside of Great Britain." Griphook nodded and put half of the papers aside before spreading the rest over the table. "That leaves Black Manor, Black Castle and Peverel Manor. Black Manor is the only one of the three in a public area. Peverell Manor is located on Mort Island in the Atlantic. The Island belongs to the Peverells and is only inhabited by various magical creatures. It is also under a word that makes sure absolutely noone can find it. Nobody knows what creatures live on the island, so there very well could be some that are believed to be extinct. Even I only know that there are some considered very dangerous and that they are all absolutely loyal to the Peverells. In Pureblood Circles the island is a myth. Everyone wants to see it but nobody knows if it really exists. " Hadrian nodded, thinking carefully about his options. He really didn't want to be near people, so Black Manor was out, Black Castle sounded interesting but he didn't want to live alone in a Castle, it would feel too cold for him. Plus he always loved magical creatures, and having a whole island of them, with even the chance of some extinct ones? It was way too good to pass up." I'II take Peverell Manor." Griphook nodded and handed him an Onyx. That is the Portkey, the activation phrase is simply 'Peverell Manor'.' 'Hadrian nodded and put it in his pocket.
Grip hook stood up and nodded to Hadrian. "That concludes our business today. Please come again sometime in the next few days to go over everything else. Oh, and I would be honored to call you a friend." This shocked Hadrian, he knew the friendship of Goblins wasn't offered easily but not what he did to deserve this honour. "The honour is mine, I would be glad to call you my friend. I shall be back soon. May your gold ever flow, Grip hook." "And may your enemies tremble at your feet, Hadrian."
with that Hadrian left Gringgotts, putting the too big cap on again, he
did still have to hide his scar, after all, even if his hair looked different now, and went over to the entrance of Knockturn. The run down Alley was exactly how he remembered, dark, creepy and full of people you don't want to meet. However, showing weakness to your enemy is never a good idea so Hadrian put on some false confidence and hurried up.
Once he found the shop he was looking for, it looked just like the rest of the alley, dark and in desperate need of a renovation, he quickly went inside. After looking around for a moment he found what he was looking for. The bird section.
He looked through them for quite a while (definitely longer then he was comfortable with, considering the shop owner didn't stop staring at him once) untill one bird finally caught his eye. It was a beautiful male Black Falcon. "Hello there, do you want to come with me? "The falcon looked at him as if considering it before nodding. Great. Now all he needed was a name. And, well, it was a Black Falcon. He might as well keep in line with the Black tradition." What do you think about the name Altair? It's the name of a star." The newly named Altair calls (seriously couldn't find anything else on falcon noises in English, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) in confirmation.
Right as he was about to go to the counter and pay for Altair he heard a voice from the back. Getting curious, Hadiran followed the voice untill he arrived in the far back of the store in front of a reptile enclosure. Inside it was the most beautiful serpent he had ever seen.
It was a Horned serpent with black scales and sapphire blue eyes. There was a sapphire on it 's forehead and it's horns were white. The underside of it's body (the belly) had white-grey scales.
~Stupid human, can't stop staring at me!~ That snapped Hadrian out of his admiration. ~I apologise, I didn't mean to stare. I was just admiring your beauty.~ The serpent looked taken aback at that. ~You speak?~ She seamed to get really excited now. ~A speaker!~
She looked up in excitement and their eyes met. Suddenly Hadrian felt something snap into place right next to his heart. It felt like a bond that was meant to be there, Like something he had missed his entire life, just never known about. It felt complete.
~Say, do you want to go home with me?~ He asked the serpent. ~Yes! Take me with you, speaker!~ Hadrian chuckled at it's enthusiasm and put his am in to the enclosure to let it climb up. ~My name is Hadrian, do you have a name?~ ~No, Hadrian, you may give me one.~ Hadrian started going over to the counter. ~Are you male or female?~ ~I'm a male.~
He reached the counter, where the owners gaze kept flickering between him and the serpent, looking like his biggest fear just jumped out of the shadows. "I'll take these two and some treats for both of them, please." Hadrian didn't notice the owners distress, still contemplating over a suitable name. ~How about 'Apophis'? It's the name of an Egyptian snake god.~ He didn't notice that the owner lost all colour in his face at the sound of parsel tongue either . ~That is acceptable, in fact, I like it, thank you Hadrian.~ ~You're welcome, Apophis.~ The owner put everything on the counter. "That would be 112 Galleons, sir." Hadrian nodded, took out his pouch and payed the price, then he put the treats and the pouch back into his backpack.
Holding Altairs cage in one hand, and Apophis draped over his shoulders, he left the store. He took out the Onyx and said the activation phrase. "Peverell Manor."
Hadrian felt the familiar sensation of a hook pulling him up by the neck before he was suddenly standing in a huge, beautiful entrance hall. Everything seemed to be made out of black marmor. The ceiling was supported by columns that seemed to be inspired by ancient greek ones and there were two flights of stairs going up in front of him .
Over the stairs hung the family crest. It consisted of the triangle and circle with the line in the middle that is also engraved in his ring in the middle in silver. On both sides next to the symbol was a black thestral each and the background was avada green.
Hadrians thoughts got disrupted by a bunch of popping sounds.
He looked at the origin of the noise and saw a group of house elves in the middle of the hall. They wore a black uniform with avada green accents and the family crest over their heart. One of them stepped forward and bowed.
"Welcome, Master. I am Tarus, the Head elf and these are Thana, Ticky, Tacky and Toey. Thana is a healer, Ticky is responsible for cooking, Tacky tends to the Gardens and Greenhouses and Toey keeps everything clean." Hadrian nodded, he could work with that.
He was glad that he found that book in the restricted section about house elves or he would have freed the poor things. Back then he was surprised to find out that house elves needed to be bound to a wizard in order to survive and he immediately went to Hermione with it. At first she was reluctant but after consulting the house elves in the kitchens and having it confirmed, she dropped SPEW. Her remaining concerns were relieved by the elves when they told her that most of the old families treat them very well.
That reminded him that he needs to bind the elves to him. "I, Hadrian Ignotus Potter, as Lord Peverell, hereby claim the house elves in front of me, Tarus, Thana, Ticky, Tacky and Toey as my elves and bind them to me and my magic. So mote it be."
The elves looked ecstatic at being bonded to him and Tarus started speaking again. "Is there anything we can do for you , Master?" Hadrian nodded, feeling his exhaustion catch up with him.
"Yes, I would like something light to eat and for one of you to bring Altair and his cage into the Lord room. I also have an owl that will arrive here soon, so please get my room ready for her, too. Additionally I'II need an enclosure with water for Apophis." He gestured at the serpent around his neck, that seems to have fallen asleep." On top of that I need to write two letters, so if there is some parchment and ink left around here, that would be great. I'll write them in the dining room after I finish eating."
The elves nodded and Toey took Altairs cage from him. "Toey bes preparing Masters rooms for yous and yours pets." With that Ticky,Thana, Tacky and Joey popped away, so only Tarus was left.
"I will be leading you to the family dining room, please follow me, Master."He said and lead him up the stairs and through a long corridor. They walked past countless doors, that he would definitely explore after he woke up later that day, untill they finally made it to the dining room. The walls were painted in different shades of green and full of portraits of different magical creatures living in a forest. In the center of the room was a big ebony table surrounded by ten equally ebony chairs. Each chair had a mint green cushion for comfort and over the table hung a beautiful silver chandelier, decorated with emeralds.
Hadrian thanked Tarus, who quickly popped away, and made his way to the head of the table. As soon as he sat down a dinner consisting of some soup with bread and some salat appeared together with some tea and a lemon soufflé . He quickly started eating and complimented Ticky in his head. It was delicious.
After he finished eating the plates disappeared and in their place appeared the finest parchment he has ever seen as well as some ink and a quilt. He wrote Hermiones letter first, writing down everything he wanted to tell her without actually giving everything away . The one to Voldemort was a bit harder tho. He didn't want to address the man by 'Voldemort' or 'Dark Lord' and 'Tom Riddle' would probably be a bad idea so' Lord Slytherin' it was. That, however meant he would need to write a formal letter, and he didn't have the slightest idea how to write those. In the end he decided to call his house elf.
"Tarus." Said elf appeared with a pop." How can I help you, Master?" "Do you know how to write formal letters? "At the elves nod he continued. "The situation is a bit complicated. I am the Lord of three houses, and Heir of two. He is the Lord of both houses I am Heir to. Up untill now we have been at opposing sides of a war, and he is the Leader of his side. A dark Lord, to be exact. However, due to recent developments I have decided to stay out of said war and wish to inform him of my neutrality. Can you help me write the letter?"
Tarus thought for a moment bevore nodding. "I can help you with that, Master." They worked together and soon the letter was complete, and Hadrian was absolutely exhausted. "Thank you,Tarus, can you bring me to my room? "Tarus nodded, took Hadrians hand and popped them to his room before leaving.
Hadrian went over to Altairs perch and pet him a bit." Hey, there. I have two letters here, can you deliver them for me?" Altair called out in confirmation and Hadrian smiled, tying both letters to his leg. "Those go to Hermione Granger and Lord Slytherin. You don't need to wait for an answer from Hermione, in fact if she isn't in her room then just leave the letter there. When delivering Lord Slytherins letter, however, I need you to wait for a response. Don't leave without one, okay?" Altair nodded once, called out, and flew out of the open window.
Hadrian smiled, finally relaxing, he closed the window and dropped into his bed. He passed out as soon as his head hit the pillow.
