Chapter 8
In Gulmira there are bombs going off and the ten rings are killing people.
"Oh god." Lily whispers and most of the younger students looks away from the screen not wanting to see
One of them says to put the women in the trucks and to stack the weapons, then clear the houses.
A family tries to get their son away. A man says to grab him and put him with the others and calls him a 'dog'.
Rhodey grimaces at the dehumanizing language
A little boy tries to run to his father. They shove the boy away and shove his father to the ground and stand over him then a man starts kicking him, a woman screams in the background.
"No!" the entire hall yells
A man says to shoot him, then calls his men incompetent.
Then Toni lands.
"You've got great timing." Remus says
A man shoots at her, Toni punches him then starts firing at the others. She goes to fire at the ones behind her but they're holding guns to civilians heads. She puts her hands down and targets the terrorists.
"Nice targeting system." Clint says "I bet I could do better."
The boy runs to his father. Toni walks to where the last guy is and grabs him through the wall and throws him on the ground in front of the civilians. She says he's theirs and then flies away.
The people glare at the man on the ground.
Natasha smirks. They were going to enjoy beating him up
Toni flies and locates the weapons, she gets blown out of the sky and lands at the place the weapons are located. A tank is shooting at her and she blows it up. People start shooting at her, she flies up and notices the Jericho missile, she blows it up. She flies away and gets noticed by the military.
"You gave everyone a scare there Toni." Rhodey says
A man asks what it was and if they were cleared to go in there.
Someone else says that they weren't because they were using human shields.
Someone says to put him through to State because they're gonna want to be all over this.
"Oh they definitely were." Toni mutters
Someone says they've got a bogey. They discover that it isn't military or CIA.
Someone else says that he needs answers and asks if he could get eyes on the target and asks for Colonel Rhodes from weapons development.
Rhodey enters the room. Someone tells him that they ran ID check and cross-referenced with known databases and that they have nothing.
"I wonder why that is." Rhodey says, staring at Toni who just smirks at him
Rhodey asks if there's any high-altitude surveillance in the region.
The man tells him that they have an AWAC and a Global Hawk in the area.
Rhodey asks why it didn't show up on the radar if it appeared out of no-where and asks if it's stealth.
"The early suits weren't," Toni says
Someone says that it's not and its tiny and they think its an unmanned aerial vehicle.
"Definitely not unmanned." Toni says
Someone asks Rhodey what they're dealing with.
"Me." Toni says
Rhodey says to let him make a phone call.
"You knew immediately it was her didn't you." Pepper asks and Rhodey nods "I suspected she had something to do with it."
Toni is still flying and we hear a ringing noise coming from the suit. Toni answers the phone with a 'Hello.'
Rhodey greets her. Toni asks who's talking to him. Not hearing Rhodey's answer, she apologizes and says 'hello' again.
"Are you taunting him?" Harry asks
"No." Toni says
Toni tells him to speak up.
"Now I am." Toni says
Rhodey asks what the noise is.
Toni tells him Henry's driving with the top down.
"Weren't you thirteen at this time?" Steve asks Henry
"Fourteen." Henry says
"His age didn't stop him from taking my sport cars for a test drive without my permission." Toni says
"And you wonder why the twins gave you gray hair growing up." Spider Man coughs,
Rhodey says he needs Toni's help.
Toni says that its funny how that works.
Rhodey says that he has a weapons depot that was blown up close to where Toni was held captive.
Toni makes a comment about it being a hot spot and says that it sounded like someone did Rhodey's job for him.
"Yes, someone did." Rhodey says with an eye roll
Rhodey asks Toni why she sounds out of breath.
Toni says that she's jogging.
"You're a terrible liar." Sirius says
Rhodey says that he thought Toni said Henry was driving.
Tony says that Henry was driving to the canyon where they were going to jog.
Rhodey asks if Toni has any tech in the area.
Toni says she doesn't.
"Liar."
Rhodey tells Toni that that's good because he's staring at a piece of tech that's about to get blown up.
Two planes appear behind Toni.
"That's not good." Remus says
Tony says that this is her exit and he turns left. The planes follow her.
A pilot says that he has the bogey in his sights.
Rhodey asks what it is.
The pilot says he doesn't know.
They give the pilot the all clear and tell him he can engage.
"Oh my god." Pepper says, panicking "You and the kids stress me out." she tells Toni
Inside Toni's suit red words that say 'engage supersonic' appear. She activates it then flies really fast.
The pilot says that the bogey went supersonic and that he has target lock on it. Then he starts shooting at Toni.
"Get out of there." Lily and the rest of the Potters yell
"What do you think I was trying to do." Toni asks
JARVIS warns Toni about the inbound missile. Toni activates the flares. The missile blows up. Tony starts falling out of the sky but steadies herself after a few seconds.
One of the planes starts shooting at her. Tony tells JARVIS to deploy the flaps and then falls back.
Someone says that the bogey jumped off the radar.
Someone else says that he thinks the bogeys been handled.
Rhodey's phone starts ringing. He picks it up to see Toni calling, the name used is 'the Starkster."
Several people laugh at the name
Toni tries to tell him that the bogey is her but Rhodey doesn't understand.
Rhodey tells her that it isn't a game and that she can't send civilian equipment into an active warzone.
Toni says it isn't a piece of equipment and that its a suit and she's in it.
Someone else tells the pilots to return to the base.
One of the planes flies off and Toni is revealed to be hanging onto the bottom of it.
"So that's where you went." Steve says
The other pilot tells him that something is on the plane and that it looks like a man.
"Wrong again" Toni says
The pilot says to shake the man off and the other pilot rolls the plane.
Toni flies off and hits the other plane, ripping one of its wings off.
"Oh damn." Tarantula mutters
The plane starts falling. The other pilot tells him to punch out.
The man ejects himself, then his plane blows up.
"Is he alright?" Lily asks
"I'm sure he was fine." Toni says
The pilot is still falling, trying to eject his parachute, and yells that its jammed.
Toni starts flying after him. The other pilot says that he has visual on the bogey.
Someone tells the pilot to reengage and that if he gets a clear shot he should take it.
"Seriously?!" several people yell
Rhodey says that they don't know what their dealing with and that he should call off the planes.
The man says that the bogey took out an f22 in a no fly zone and repeats what he said to the pilot.
"They shot at me" Toni sniffs
JARVIS tells Toni that he's been reengaged, and to execute the evasive maneuver.
Toni says to keep going and flies faster and successfully un- jams the mans chute.
Sighs of relief echo through the room
Rhodey asks Toni if she's still there and calls her a crazy son of a bitch and tells Toni that she owes him a plane.
Toni says that technically the pilot hit her.
Toni asks if Rhodey will come see what she's been working on.
Rhodey says that he wont because the less he knows about it the better.
Rhodey asks what he's supposed to tell the press.
Toni tells him to say that it was a training exercise and asks if that was the usual BS excuse.
Rhodey says that it isn't that simple.
"Actually it is." Natasha says
The scene flips to Rhodey talking to a group of reporters. He says that a training exercise involving an f22 raptor occurred, and that the pilot was un-injured.
Obadiah is shown watching this happen on TV.
Rhodey talks about the turn of events in Gulmira and says that the United States government wasn't involved.
"I don't like the look in his eyes." James mutters and Sirius, Remus and the Aurors nod in agreement
Pepper is shown walking down the stairs to Toni's lab. Tony greets her.
JARVIS says that the suit is a tight fit and the more she struggles, the more it'll hurt.
Toni tells him to be gentle because its was her first time.
"You know that sounds bad out of context." Harry says
Toni is shown standing on a machine that is trying to take her suit off. Toni says that she designed the suit to come off so it should be able to.
"The suits have come a long way since then." Toni says
JARVIS tells her to try and not move.
Pepper asks what's going on.
Toni turns her head and says that this isn't the worst thing she's caught her doing.
"What's the worse thing she's caught you doing?" Lily asks
"She once walked in on me having a three-way with Oliver Queen and Bruce." Toni says
"What an awful day to be able to hear" Henry groans
"Who exactly is Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen?" Sirius asks
"Bruce is a billionaire from Gotham." Toni says
"God that city is weird. They have a bunch of criminals who play dress up and a guy who dresses up as a bat and beats said criminals up." Henry says
Toni, Peter, and Harley side-eye Henry, all four knowing who that Batman was.
"Oliver Queen is a billionare from Star City, which has their own archer called Green Arrow. He's like me, but not cool. Or hot." Clint smirks, his team rolling their eyes
Pepper asks if the holes in the suit are bullet holes.
"You're going to give me a heart attack one day." Pepper tells Toni
