Dear diary, our trip to Canada has been incredibly exciting! From the towering snow-capped mountains to the mysterious forests, we've discovered a world full of magic and wonder.
We began our adventure in the Rocky Mountains, where the snowy peaks glistened under the sun, and the lakes were as clear as crystal. In Banff National Park, we met a group of Native Americans who told us about the Wendigo, a mythical creature that lives in the forests and feeds on flesh. Although we didn’t see it, we stayed alert on our hikes, just in case!
Then we headed east to the Ontario region, where we visited Niagara Falls. They were enormous, and the sound of the water was deafening! Luna told us about Nanabozho, a hero of local legends who created the falls to defeat some water monsters. She seemed a bit sad about the water creatures, but we managed to confirm with some local witches that there are still various mermaids and aquatic creatures in the area, which greatly reassured my friend.
In the Thunder Bay region, we explored the Isle of the Giant, where it’s said the Giant of Thunder Bay once lived before being defeated. It’s true that in the Muggle side, you can’t find any evidence of giants, but in the magical side, there is a sizeable colony of some of the largest giants in the world. Dad didn’t let us get close to that area…
We celebrated Blaise’s tenth birthday in a nearby town, where we joined the local festivities. It was an incredible party with delicious food and cheerful music! During the celebration, I found a special keepsake for Anna: a stone carved with the symbol of the Snow Maiden, a mythical figure who protects travellers lost in the snow.
We spent our last day in Canada in Hudson Bay, where we saw a herd of caribou. It was an impressive sight that reminded us of Canada’s incredible wildlife. While exploring the bay, Luna told us about the Qalupalik, a sea creature from Inuit mythology that takes children who get too close to the water. Fortunately, we didn’t encounter any of these creatures during our visit.
We are now preparing to head to Finland, where we will celebrate Yule and Christmas. We are excited to continue our adventure and discover more magical wonders on this incredible journey.
At the moment, I can’t see more similarities between Dad and Mum, especially because Sev has already noticed what I’m doing. It was a bit of an embarrassing conversation at first, but then Dad told me that if I keep refining my observation skills, I will surely find more similarities since they technically grew up together, so many of one’s gestures ended up being imitated by the other and vice versa.
Dad gave me the task of categorising my findings and trying to differentiate who originated each gesture between Dad and Mum. When we get back home, he will review it and tell me more stories related to what I find. I can’t wait!
See you!
Goodbye!
