"LUCIUS!"
Lucius stood there in shock. He has heard Narcissa raise her voice - something she rarely did - and hurried back to make sure she was okay. A part of him wished he hadn't.
"Really Narcissa, save the dramatics. It is a simple question. Yes, it may upset him more, but it's important. Yes, I remember Abraxas. He was a piece of work. I also knew Lysithea. She loved children. If there was never any proof of a body, perhaps she was able to remove that little girl and saved her. She died so long ago that we can't ask her."
Narcissa froze mid step. She always seems to pace when she got worked up.
"I see you've come to the same conclusion I have, Narcissa."
"Aurelia might have lived... And she might have a child at Hogwarts."
His wife's last comment caused him to drop the glass of tea to the floor, shattering the glass.
Aurelia might be alive. She might be alive. She might be alive. Aurelia might have a child. A child at Hogwarts. She might be okay. She's okay. She's alive.
He didn't even heard his wife's frantic call or see her trying to get his attention. His little sister might be alive. She might be a mother.
A MOTHER?!
Lucius gasped. "A mother?!"
"Lucius! Thank goodness!" His wife's arms were wrapped around him tightly. Cassiopeia Black was watching him wearily. "Lucius, can you feel the pull?"
She asked him so quietly that if the situation wasn't as it was, he wouldn't have heard her. Lucius took a deep breath and focused his magic. He could feel the family magic. He could feel the ribbon to Draco, the ribbon to Narcissa.
THERE!
There was another ribbon. It was weak. Like a ribbon that's so frayed and ripped that it's barely held together.
Oh.
There was another. It wasn't as frayed but it still wasn't as whole as the connection to Draco or even to Narcissa.
How odd. How have I never felt them before? Have I been so negligent? How could I do that. I abandoned Aurelia.
Narcissa watched her husband. He was so silent. But he was concentrating. She knew it. She felt the light pull on Malfoy family magic. He was trying to trace it. To see if the theory was right.
Draco will feel the pull soon.
She continued to watch Lucius. She didn't know how long they sat there. Cassie on the couch, watching. Her on the floor, arms wrapped around Lucius.
Suddenly Lucius spoke.
"Aurelia. I feel her. It's frayed and ripped. But it's there. She's alive."
Lucius repeated it as he finally broke down in tears. "She's alive. She's alive. She has a child. I felt them too. It's stronger. I believe it's the child who's stronger."
One piece of the puzzle down. But more removed themselves from it.
Aurelia was alive, but how. She had a child. One that was more than likely at Hogwarts.
Narcissa hoped Draco's letter would give more answers. Perhaps he would even figure it out himself.
Draco is going to have another cousin. Someone he's going to school with. I hope they get along.
