Size matters
Harry loved looking after his unconventional offspring. He was relieved that he now no longer had to hide his secret from Hermione, who therefore would sometimes join him on the jetty to read to him about squid biology, in hopes of finding out 'Squid Rearing Tips' while he was out there feeding fish guts to his fast growing brood.
Most days, Hermione would break their companionable silence by saying something like 'Did you know that female Giant Squids can grow to 13 meters of length and males to 10 meters?' or 'Newt's Anthology of Cephalopods says that it has the largest eyes of any living creature.'
'In this case the largest green eyes,' Harry had replied to that one with a grin.
'All squidding aside, Harry, what are we going to do about a lake full of hybrid squidlets? Does anyone even know what happens to your DNA during such transformations? Newt's Anthology of Cephalopods, doesn’t mention anything on cross species procreation and I can’t find anything on the material properties of transformed objects in A Guide to Advanced Transfiguration either. There also seems to be no information on whether there is a difference in material properties between the results of transfiguration through a spell or transformation through a potion. Were you actually physiologically a squid, or a humanoid looking like a squid?'
(She left 'when you were doing the deed' unspoken.)
'This is potentially a real biodiversity risk, Harry,' she continued, exasperated that Harry cared so little about the fallout of the potion's accident.
'The sheer number of these potentially invasive species in a small lake that hosts a significant population of other magical creatures, not to mention Merpeople.'
Seeing that her concerns were falling on deaf ears, she directed her irritation elsewhere.
'There really is very little scientific knowledge in any of these books,' she scoffed, looking disgusted, as if it was the books' fault.
Only once did Hermione not finish her 'Did you know fact' and had instead banged her book shut decisively, while blushing profusely, but not before Harry had seen her eyes widen.
He had a fair idea what that stated fact was and would have readily admitted that the size of that particular male organ had come as a major surprise to him also. Size clearly did matter for Giant squids, he smiled to himself.
