“Hello and welcome to Moon715.2FM!” Remus’ voice boomed into the mic in front of him as he checked that all the correct lights were flashing, and that the intro music wasn’t still playing.
“Today we have a variety of great 70s music! Well, you guys know I don’t really have much variation, I love the classics. But today is different! Today I’m playing some music that I really love that is actually recently produced!” Remus fake gasped as he played a silly sound effect highlighting the shock of the rarity that he would play modern music.
He chuckled, “Yes! I’m going to be playing the great music by rockstar, Sirius Black. He is one of my all-time favourite artists and recently released a new album, so without further adieu here it is!”
As the music faded in, he turned off his mic and gave a thumbs up to his radio producer (who was also his dad) who gave a thumbs up back.
Leaning back in his chair he listened to the music and the man’s voice in his headphones, allowing himself to daydream as the next song he had lined up begun to play.
The day went on like this, he took moments in between songs to discuss them and have ad breaks for stupid things like toilet cleaner.
As his shift ended and his father walked in to take over, he left to go eat something at the nearby café.
Just as he sat down, he felt his phone go off in his pocket. Bringing it up to his face he saw notification after notification. His families humble radio station had gotten about 10,000 new listeners all thanks to this one Instagram story with this caption.
Sirius Black:
@Moon71FM – I’m a big fan of your station, thanks for playing my music. DM me. 😉
Oh. My. God. Remus’ mind raced, his chest grew tight. Sirius Black listened to his radio station! Would he DM him now? Or would it be too soon? What would he say? What did Sirius Black want him to say? His stomach became full of nervous butterflies that he pushed away as the waitress approached with his coffee.
He calmed himself down, taking a sip and going to DM the man who he had dreamt of meeting since he was fifteen. Now at 19, his dreams were coming true. He shakily messaged Sirius.
Moon71FM – Hello, my names Remus Lupin, I’m one of the hosts of Moon71.
He was being so formal, God this was hard. Why was it so hard?
Sirius Black – Hey Remus, I was wondering if maybe I could come on your station? You don’t have to pay me or anything, I want to do it. As I said I’m kinda a fan.
Moon71FM – That would be awesome, wow thank you so much. What day and time would you like to?
Was the ‘wow’ too much?
Sirius Black – I’m free next week? When are you on?
Moon71FM – Tuesday 12?
Sirius Black - Sounds good.
Moon71FM – See you then.
Remus smiled at his phone, quickly drinking his coffee before making his way back to the studio to let his dad know. He still couldn’t fathom that he had just been texting Sirius black, barely unable to keep his cool as he stepped through the door, cool air following him before he took off his scarf and walked through smiling brightly at his dad through the producers window as he sat.
-
“Okay guys, don’t go anywhere because I have something great lined up after this, let’s just say I have a very special guest.” Remus said before the ad break started.
Turning off his mic Remus smiled gleefully at his dad through the producers window as he stood from his chair, walking through to him.
“I just heard him come in, do you wanna go meet him? Bring him in?” Lyall asked, smiling back up at his son from the sound board. Remus simply nodded, smile still plastered on his face. Lyall returned the nod as Remus left the dark room into their small lobby’s bright light.
As he entered the room his eyes instantly met the singer’s. He was slouched over their old purple velvet couch, wearing the coolest ‘Sirius Black’ outfit that consisted of platform doc marten boots, a black band t-shirt, black jeans, and a leather jacket. His dark hair fell over his face, contrasting his pale skin as he looked up, his smile caused Remus to instantly fluster.
Shit.
This was going to be hard.
“Remus?” The man questioned.
“Yes, that’s me, hi.”
Sirius stood now, approaching him. Remus was surprised to find that Sirius was quite short, even with the platform boots he was probably 10 inches shorter than him. He hadn’t expected that, but Remus had always been tall.
“Its nice to meet you, I’m Sirius, obviously” he chuckled as he held out his hand.
“Nice to meet you” Remus shook his hand with a smile, “So we have about 5 minutes or so ‘til we’re back on, do you wanna come in?” Remus had already started walking towards the door, leaning down to reach the doorknob.
“Yeah, sounds good” Sirius smiled.
Fuck, his smile.
“So, this is the guy my Remus is always talking about” Lyall stood from his chair, shaking Sirius’ hand with his deep laugh. God he was so embarrassing, and so unprofessional!
“Dad!” Remus scolded, “I don’t talk about you that often” Remus cleared up, although he definitely did.
Sirius just chuckled “It’s alright, it’s nice to meet you, Mr. Lupin.” he smiled again, he was so charming. “This is a nice studio you got here”.
“Thank you, uh you boys can head in there, you’ve got 5 minutes” Lyall put his hand out towards the door as he spoke before he sat back down.
Remus nodded as he opened the door, letting Sirius in first, following behind him and pointing to their guest chair opposite the sound desk where Remus sat.
“You can sit there.” he smiled as he took his own seat.
Sirius threw himself over the chair with a deep breath out, “So you’re a fan hey?” he smiled or was it a smirk?
“I’m a bit of a fan, yeah.” Remus scratched his neck as he grabbed his notebook with the interview questions from the other desk behind him.
Sirius had leaned forward on the desk by the time Remus had spun back around, he felt the warmth of blush appearing on his face, oh no.
“What’s your favourite song?” he asked, still smirking but his eyes grew more interested now.
“Oh uhh, I don’t know, maybe ‘love note’?”
“Love note?” Sirius leaned back in his chair now, thank god.
Remus nodded “Yeah um anyway we should get started, put these on” he said, flustered now, as he handed Sirius the headphones. Sirius leaned forward again, the scent of cigarettes and leather infiltrating Remus’s nose.
As Sirius took the headphones his cool hand brushed against Remus’s as he quickly pulled his hand away. He put his headphones on and gave Sirius a signal that they would begin recording. As he turned on all the correct switches, he felt Sirius’s gaze on his, watching his every move, un-faltering. It made him quite nervous as he fumbled the certain volume switches and buttons that he needed in order for them to be heard, but once he did it, he was in radio host mode, putting on his witty and fun personality as his voice spoke into the microphone.
“Hello everyone! This is Remus Lupin and you’re listening to Moon712.5FM I hope you’re all still there and listening because as I said we have a very special guest today that many of you will know…” he turned to Sirius, signaling him to speak into the microphone in front of him.
“Hey guys! Its Sirius Black here!”
“That’s right everyone! Today we’ve got international rockstar, Sirius Orion Black in the studio to answer some of your questions that were sent in”.
Sirius chuckled in the background. God he even laughed hot. Remus felt very warmed in the cramped room.
“So, let’s start off with…. What inspires your lyrics?” Remus asked, covering his nervousness.
“Hmm that’s a good one. Honestly, I’m not sure, lyrics kind of just come to me. Sometimes when I’m listening to music, watching tv or out with friends. It’s random.” He shrugged with a smile. Remus nodded, sending Sirius a confirming smile to show that it was a good answer.
“Would you say there’s an artist that inspires you?” Remus repeated the questions from his list.
“Well Queen obviously, but Led Zeppelin as well, and Bowie, I love Bowie.”
“Your music really reflects that.” Remus’ grin was undying, Sirius had just listed his favourite artists. Remus had always found it amazing how retro Sirius’ music had sounded, that was hard to find these days.
Continuing down the list Remus asked, “Why did you start making music?” It was a hard question, but Sirius responded quickly. He was very good at interviews which was no surprise, Remus had watched him in interviews before.
“It’s an outlet for me. I love music and I love creating something that someone can relate to and enjoy. I would say I started making music just to express myself but also just to do something with my thoughts, and my lyrics really relate to my life. I love if someone can listen to my music and feel seen. That’s why I make music.” He said with such confidence and a soft smile that made Remus’ heart flutter.
They continued the interview, chuckling and smiling throughout, the few seconds of eye contact Remus got made him feel like the room was warming. Sirius was very charming, answering the questions with that slight hum before, and looking up at Remus with those grey eyes with a slight smile after he was done speaking.
They went on, Remus asking questions as a blush made its way up his neck, and Sirius answering them with his star-like charm. Eventually their interview came to an end and Remus lined up Sirius’ songs to play.
He motioned Sirius to say goodbye/wrap up the speaking portion of the session, “Thank you everyone for your questions and for listening! This is my song ‘Starlight streets’ I hope you enjoy; this is Sirius Black signing off for Moon71fm!” he spoke excitedly into the microphone hanging in front of him smiling at Remus for reassurance.
“You were really good” Remus said as he held the door for Sirius who smiled blushed slightly,
“Thanks” he whispered. God, everything he did was cute. But it was totally unrealistic, and unprofessional… Sirius wasn’t going to be his boyfriend.
“You were great Sirius” Remus’ dad clapped him on the back. “We got a lot of listeners!” he cheered as he walked into the radio room to take over while Remus walked Sirius out.
Remus chuckled as they entered the lobby again, he was about to say something until Sirius did.
“That was my favourite interview yet” he smiled “I’ve listened to your station for years you know; id always heard your voice, but I never expected you to look…”
“What? Like a grandpa?” Remus chuckled, people always told him he dressed like a grandpa, and the few random grey hairs sprouting from his cowlick didn’t help.
“No, no, you look… cool. Yeah, like your style its very unique, in a good way.” Sirius sort of stuttered, adding the last part in a hurry as to not make it sound like an insult.
“Oh, thanks.”
“Yeah, um well I should get going” Sirius looked hesitant as he stepped back towards the door. Remus felt that he would be losing Sirius forever if he let him go now, it felt like smoke escaping from his hands. Except Remus was still as he waved at Sirius exiting the lobby.
Sirius was a few steps out the door when Remus burst out. Sirius stared at him, but he didn’t seem confused, he seemed relieved as the stood in the ally that their building opened out to. Sirius’ motorbike was a few feet away as they stood under the shade of the buildings around them.
Then suddenly, Sirius was on him, kissing him. This had to be a dream. It was so fast but so slow at the same time, his hands making his way into Sirius’ hair, grasp full of need, while Sirius’ hands were on his neck leaning in, deepening the kiss. He was warm through the cool air that carried his scent of leather and amber.
A trucks blaring horn drew them apart, lips wet and panting as they watched each other for a sign of regret, but it wasn’t found. A cheeky smile grew on Sirius’ face that forced a smile onto Remus’.
“I really like you” Sirius admitted with such casualty and confidence while he tucked a strand of hair behind his ear.
“Yeah, me too” Remus responded without a stutter, though he was almost frozen in amazement.
“I really have to go” Sirius tilted his head now.
“Do you want to message me? Maybe?” Remus asked with a slight look of cringe in his face that subsided as Sirius walked towards his motorbike yelling,
“I do! I will!” and then he was off.
