“Hey.” He had said to me in a kind tone of voice i wasn't deserving of. He knelt down to talk to me with a bright smile, on the cracked sidewalk in an old part of muggle London. I was there in old clothes that didn't fit, shoes with so many holes they no longer had any purpose, and a worn cap that kept the sun from burning me too much as I stayed out on these streets. Day and night I was here, with nothing but a ragged tent, coins given to me out of pity, and a bag of random items I found mostly in dumpsters. My face and body smudged with dirt, lacking the luxury of a shower in months or years.
“Fuck off Potter.” I grumbled. I didn’t want another person's pity. His smile didn’t falter.
He got me off my feet. Got me a job and a small flat. He showed me I was worth something. Of course I fell in love with him. The day he asked me to be with him didn’t feel real. I now had a life worth living and someone who wanted me.
I didn’t believe it.
“Are you sure you want me?” I had asked him, overrun with the idea that this wasn’t happening.
His smile didn’t falter.
I loved him more than anything in this universe. In every dimension we were meant to be. The heavens couldn’t compare to waking up next to him every morning. Aphrodites herself wouldn’t be able to comprehend love as pure as ours. Every day with him was the best day of my life, yet he still managed to make each day better. His smile never faltered.
We had each other for 48 years, and he was my… everything. He meant more to me than the Sun meant to the Earth. He made each day warm in a beautiful golden light that reflected on to me.
“I love you.” I had said looking into his eyes that held the memories of us. The spring sunset shined onto his skin from our cottage bedroom window, making his wrinkled skin sparkle golden. “I…” He had responded, but his words were left unfinished. I watched slowly. His smile faltered as the life left his face, in time with the Sun leaving the Earth to give it a cold solitude.
But as the Sun doesn’t leave the Earth alone for long, I knew I would see his smile again soon.
