Chapter 7
With the chaos they started it wasn't a surprise that the ministry was willing to do everything to make their image better. By ministry, he especially means the minister himself.
Amelia sent him a letter about how , apparently, the ministry was now looking for him not to arrest him, and give him a dementors kiss, which by the way, 0/10 would not recommend, but to give him a proper trail. Which, jokes on them he never even got a trial. So that was an upgrade.
And ,apparently, they were also looking for Harry to ask him questions about his relationship with his relatives, and what living with them was like.
And in any other situation that would come first of course, but then when, and not if , when, they find traces of abuse and neglect, as well as other signs that very clearly and brightly point to the Dursly's not being fit guardians, they would need to find some place other than them to place him with.
And he would not allow his godson to be placed with some stuck up pureblood that might just be on Voldemorts side. He would not. Allow. It.
So the obvious choice was him right? But for that he had to go through a trial and prove his innocence and that was what he was gonna do.
So dressed up in his more formal clothes he gathered all his wits and patience and entered the room where his trial would be taking place.
And he was faced with wands pointing at his face. So he just very, very slowly raised his hands in a clear ' I surrender ' pose and let them take him to a stand where he took his place.
Harry was convinced that he should come along, just in case but he tried to explain how that would seem to the eyes of people. He was known as a mass murderer and a death eater, so. And it took hours, literal hours to get him to agree to stay home and that he was going to be alright and there was no need to come along with him and follow him to the ministry.
As he sat he caught the eye of the one who helped him get to this point and he gave her a barely noticeable nod which she returned, discreetly of course. If she was caught helping him she was going to get in a lot of trouble and all of this was going to before nothing.
So after they all settled down the trial started. They started asking questions to which he answered truthfully but when they got to that faithful night they seemed very skeptical. So veristserum was requested and they started asking questions all over again starting with his name and then finally getting to what happened that night.
"Sirius black, is it true that you were the secret keeper of James and Lily Potter?"
"Well at the start yes, that was the plan but then we decided that that would be too obvious and something everyone would expect. So we decided to go for someone no one would suspect."
"And who was this person?"
"That person was obviously Peter pettigrew."
There were gasps upon hearing this but he continued talking. Mentally he was taking breathe exercises to clam himself and not snap in anger and rage.
"No one would ever expect him to be the secret keeper so he was the best choice. Or so we thought. That was the worst mistake we made, trusting him t-that rat! He joined the death eaters and gave away their location, because he was scared. We've been friends for years and he betrayed that just like that."
Then he continued the story and explained his side of the story in more detail.by the end of it everyone was shocked and feeling guilty. They sent an innocent man to Azkaban and let him suffer there for years for nothing.
So long story short, he was now a free man and had even more money in his pocket among other things. Now he would return home and spread the good news.
Then he would take a well deserved nap and then it would be Harrys turn for questioning which he was not looking forward to but if it was necessary to get him out of that household forever he would do it.No doubt about it.
With that in thought he let his mind wander and when he finally got home he fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow .
