Chapter 5
So with that handled for now it was time to read the letter. with Shakey hands , he opened the letter and started reading.
Then he read it again, and again. Because he could not believe it. Sure he knew that she would be skeptical about the whole situation but this he really didn't expect.
She agreed to look into it. And that for her basically meant that she would help him.
And yeah, they were friends in Hogwarts, and maybe has some hookups in the past, but it was never anything serious. He had a reputation as a playboy everyone knew that, so that wasn't really a surprise. And there wasn't anything awkward after. They just decided to stay friends and never mentioned it afterwards.
He wasn't as close to her as he was to the marauders or Lily, but they were just friends. So he didn't really expect her to help him just like that. He thought it would take more convincing and evidence. She was working in the ministry, was around long enough to have fought in the was against "you know who", and was overall very skeptical, chosing to trust everything with a grain of salt. She was professional, not letting her personal feelings effect her job and decisions. And he respected that, he liked that about her, no matter the situation she would always keep a level head. But he didn't expect her to help what everyone thought was a death eater.
No that he was not grateful, he was grateful, very grateful, and very, very glad. But he just didn't expect that.
Eh, let's not look a gift horse in the mouth, he thought. She agreed to look into the whole situation and not to report him to the ministry, keeping this whole exchange a secret. And if the evidence pointed to him being innocent then she would help him prove his innocence.
Which was more then he hoped to achive. Much more then he expected.
Well who would've thought that the strict, professional, always followed the rules, Amelia Bones would ever help someone like him, rule breaker, the runaway black, "the traitor " and a "death eater", a" murderer ", Sirius Black, the serial killer who escaped from Azkaban and is on the run.
Who would've thought. Well, nobody would've ever thought that, it wouldn't even cross their minds. But the unthinkable happened, in his favor, and soon he might just be free.
So with her looking into it, he waited a bit before bringing up the main reason he reached out to her. Harry.
He started subtly bringing up his home situation, like who his staying with, and 'isn't it just suspicious that Harry Potter, the boy-who-lived, is always dressed in rags? And why is he always so shy and why has he never appeared in any magical locations? Why has he never answered any letter? Or claimed his inheritance? After all he is an hair, and has a lot more of many, surely he can afford nicer things? But what about the fact that his relatives never showed up to pick him up from kings cross, or to drop him off? Why doesn't he know anything about his parents, or his mother when he grew up with his aunt? '
And started planting the seed of suspiciousness. Which she no doubt has notice by now, but it worked. That's the case important thing. It worked. She looked into that as well and what she found made her furious.
She started collecting evidence and making a case against Dursly's while nobody suspected a thing. And when the timing was right, they would drop the evidence right infront of them so they could not deny it any longer.
Meanwhile she was also dropping hints to other ministry officials about the suspicious lack of his, Sirius blacks , trial and the evidence. Making them all suspicious.
And then she started dropping more hints making them all the more curious as they searched the fils , trying to find something about his "trial" and finding nothing.
Which , of course, made them outraged. Because how could they send an heir, the only heir, of the most ancient and Nobel house of black to Azkaban WITHOUT a trail?! An unheard thing. They started speaking out about it, demanding a proper trail, because what if he was innocent all along? What if they threw an innocent person, an heri at that, straight into Azkaban with no trail?!
That made the paper. Soon the news were all over england. And everyone was wondering, was was the truth after all? If the ministry have lied to them about that, what else have they hid? What was the ugly truth?
