Caitlyn thought she had a good pain tolerance, after all, she was a little girl who liked to run around the garden with her Dobermans, and it wasn't unusual when she tripped and fell on her knees, scraping herself, feeling them burn and start to bleed, these kinds of moments made her remember that her soulmate would also be feeling that same pain, so she always threw a small apology to the wind waiting for it to reach the place where her other half was.

At 12 years old, Caitlyn still thought she had a good pain tolerance as little by little her soulmate's wounds and pain were increasing in level, sometimes during the day she felt an unexpected pain spike somewhere in her body, usually in her back or her ribs, there were also times where her knuckles hurt too much, as if her soulmate had been hitting something, however, Caitlyn thought of all the times when by perfecting her aim her shoulder ended up screaming for mercy for what she believed was a fair exchange for her soulmate, even so Caitlyn wanted to believe that her other half also apologized to her when they hurt each other.

At the age of 14, Caitlyn stopped believing that she had a good pain tolerance the moment the explosion of Jayce's lab left her soulmate and by extension her badly injured; it's not like she knew that her other half was there and much less did she know that she was a 15-year-old Zaunite who was robbing the lab and had the bad luck that one of the hex crystals that Jayce had exploded causing her entire body to receive the impact; Caitlyn has no memory of anything other than the mere explosion, her memories begin when she woke up in the hospital with a tube in her mouth and a whole group of doctors around her, she could barely hear but the only thing she could see with her gaze was the pink hair of a girl on the stretcher next to her

"You're awake" the voice of that girl reached Caitlyn's ears and that's where she knew, that girl was her soulmate

Caitlyn knew that she had a mediocre resistance to pain when Vi, her soulmate, told her everything that had happened in the weeks where she was in a coma, how the explosion was, the diagnosis and all the studies that they did to both of them; however, Vi was never in a coma, if it weren't for the bandages and scrapes it seemed that she hadn't been in the explosion, that's when Caitlyn understood that Vi's body was more resilient than hers.

Over the next few weeks after Cait was taken off the ventilator, they spent time getting to know each other better, and every day that passed, that invisible bond grew stronger. Sometimes, words weren't needed to understand how the other felt. After all, they were finally together.

Caitlyn was 15 years old when she realized that her pain tolerance was almost nonexistent compared to Vi's. After leaving the hospital and their parents managed to reach an agreement on how to continue seeing each other, Caitlyn would spend several days in Zaun depending on how many times Grayson went on an expedition. Once in Zaun, Vi told Caitlyn about his exploits with his brothers, the mini expeditions they made to Piltover, what they wanted to do in the future, how Vi wanted to get a tattoo that meant something of her family, how Caitlyn would like to help others and of course what was happening with the vigilantes. Cait listened very carefully to the stories of how the vigilantes who roamed around Zaun seemed to enjoy causing pain to others as if they were punching bags.

“I would like you to accompany me when I get the tattoo, Cait”

“I want us to be together in that process, it will hurt, but at least we will be there together”

“You will be in the tattoo, you are part of me as I am part of you”

Caitlyn's mind made her remember when Vi told her all that several years ago, she was actually afraid of when the day would come when Vi would get the tattoo but something in her told her that it was going to be a new experience, maybe after the explosion her pain tolerance would have increased a little more… oh boy, how wrong she was.

Caitlyn was 18 years old when she discovered that both physical and emotional pain hurt but together it was something that no one could prepare her for; it had been almost 6 months since she enlisted with the enforcers, 6 months of physical training, bumps and bruises, 6 months since she saw and spoke to Vi for the last time and it still hurt like the first day; However, that night everything was different. During the course of the afternoon, Caitlyn began to feel pain and burning in her back, believing that she had fallen badly in a fight she let it go, but as the hours went by, that pain began to become stronger and prevented her from moving, so she retired to her small room to check the damage. What was her surprise when she looked in the mirror and noticed that little by little cuts appeared on her back, giving shape to something. That was when she realized that Vi was getting a tattoo. The long-awaited day had arrived and Cait was not with her by her side.

Caitlyn could only lie face down on her cot. The pain was unbearable if she was lying on her back. She tried to breathe and compartmentalize the physical pain, but it seemed that her emotional pain was not making it any easier until her own mind played a trick on her.

Studies on the mind have shown that a large number of people prefer to cause physical harm to themselves as a way to deal with overwhelming emotions, mental pain or stress. This can include cutting, burning or hitting themselves, among many forms of self-harm…”

Caitlyn had read that years ago, she couldn’t understand it then but now that everything in her life was upside down she understood it, her body began to shake, her jaw began to tense and her breathing became erratic as something in her broke and tears began to fall down her face, the pain began to cloud her thinking and only one thought remained… Caitlyn had a slight resistance to physical pain but none to emotional pain and this time Caitlyn knew she wouldn’t be receiving a silent apology from Vi because even she knew that deep down she deserved it.
