Lucius weaved through the sunny green golf course. The Long Island Sound glittered in the distance and various golfers called out to their caddies for new clubs. It was a beautiful day.

Though he wasn’t sure how happy his boss would be when he heard what Lucius had to tell him.

Lucius approached Voldemort, who was teeing up near the tenth hole. His cornflower blue cardigan matched the cheery sky as he raised his arms to swing. His hair was slicked back neatly, and he focused on the tee with a sharp gaze.

Lucius watched as he hit the golf ball and it rolled away, just gracing the hole but not falling in. No comment. Lucius cleared his throat before Voldemort could get annoyed.

“Sir. We just talked to Chicago. They got one of the grifters last night, an old woman,” He recited. Voldemort didn’t turn to look at Lucius, but nodded slightly, reaching into his bag for another club. He spoke in a calm, slow voice that poured over Lucius’s ears like cold syrup. “And the other one?”

Lucius shook his head, following Voldemort closely as he began walking towards his ball. “They’re still looking for him.”

Voldemort got to the ball, looking for the right angle as he stepped next to it. Lucuis moved back to get out of his way.

Voldemort was quiet for a minute, making Lucius start to fidget. It was impossible to tell what his boss was thinking. Normally that wasn’t good. As Lucius opened his mouth to say something to fill the silence, Voldemort spoke again.

“Who does Alphard have on it?” He asked. Lucius let out a small breath as Voldemort stayed calm. “Bellatrix Lestrange,” Lucius answered promptly.

Lucius new Bellatrix. He had always been scared of her too. She was as cruel as she was ruthless. She was also his sister in law. Lucius decidedly kept his son far away from her.

Voldemort gave a small hum of approval as Lucius talked on, “She staked out the other guy’s place last night but he never showed. We’re thinking that he skipped town. Do you want to follow him, or…?”

Voldemort sighed, hitting the golf ball and watching it roll into the hole before straightening up and regarding Lucius with a languid patience, like a father to a very foolish child. Lucius straightened up. Voldemort walked over to him, resting a warm hand on his shoulder.

“You see that man over there?” He pointed a long finger to one of the golfers in his party. Lucius followed his finger to a short, older man in a red cardigan. He had spiky silver hair and a thinning mustache. He smiled and waved as he saw Voldemort pointing to him.

Voldemort talked in a fond, almost nostalgic manner, “That there is Gellert Grindelwald. Gelly and I have known each other since we were six. Take a good look at that face, Malfoy...”

“…Because if he ever learned that I can be beat by one lousy grifter, I’ll have to kill him and every other rat who wants to move in on my operation.”

Lucius gulped as Voldemort exchanged a smile with Grindelwald. Suddenly his hand felt icy cold on Lucius’s shoulder. Voldemort clapped his shoulder once before walking over to Grindelwald, calling over his shoulder to Lucius.

“You follow?”
