Suspicion
The entire hall started breaking into cheerful mumbling, each house welcoming their new housemates and the ones who haven't met their friends yet, welcoming eachother. Dazai didn't have eyes nor ears for any of these people . He was too busy staring at the purple boy next to him, as the boy's hand was reaching for food to put on his plate.
"Can I help you? Or why do you keep looking at me", Fyodor asked in a calm voice, his heavy accent slipping through.
"You're interesting. I like looking at you"
"That's a bit creepy now, is it not?"
" It's a compliment"
"In that case I suppose I must thank you.
Do tell me though, what is your name?"
"Dazai, Dazai Osamu.
Pleased to meet you."
He held his hand towards the ravenette, for him to shake.
Fyodor took his hand and shaked it gently. He surely didn't seem like a very strong person but it would be foolish of him to underestimate his opponent.
Was Fyodor his opponent in this situation or where they playing on the same side?
He did still have a few pieces that weren't filled yet on his chess board but somehow it didn't feel like Fyodor would be one of his pieces. It also didn't feel like he was someone else's piece, more like he was the other side of the board. No matter how this game would go, he definitely had to keep an eye on this Dostoevsky guy. However much cautious he needed to be, he was still mesmerized by the beauty of the boy sitting beside him. He could loose himself in those amethyst eyes for all eternity.
His eyes were a similar shade like Mori, yet so incredibly different. Mori's eyes made him seem approachable on the surface, although if you looked closer there wasn't anything more than the surface . If eyes really were the entry to the soul then the doctor would only have shatters of something pretending to be a soul. Not to say that the doctor was soulless, far from it really but his eyes did seem fake. Fyodor on the contrary had eyes that made you feel like you could read him yet know nothing at all. His eyes seemed so incredibly mysterious and deep, he could stare at them for hours, hell for his entire life.
God, what was he thinking about?
Was puberty hitting or what in Christ's name were those thoughts? He almost shook his head but could resist the urge last second.
"Are you not feeling well? You've been awfully quiet, Osamu."
"I was just thinking. How would you like me showing you around school?"
"ああ、とても嬉しいです。このホールは移動がかなり複雑に思えますが。"
"Тогда я с удовольствием буду вести вас».
Thinking about it, Blaise here must help me with that. I'm not particularly known for being good with directions."
Fyodor chuckled, a grin blooming across his face.
Blaise now took part in their conversation as well, heaving heard his name being spoken.
"Yeah, I always have to get you when you get yourself lost in the hallways."
"Oh come on Blaisey, you know you love being my navigator ~.
Also I don't always get lost!
Just..most of the time"
Fyodor seemed interested , looking between the two of them:
" So this is one of your friends?
He seems rather normal."
"Are you saying that I don't seem normal? What a shocker!"
"Far from it"
"Oh how you wound me, Fedya!! You're so mean"
"誠に申し訳ございません、修」"
"Hmmmm apology accepted!
"How did you know I'm from Japan though?"
"Well for one your features already made me assume that you were from Asia and then the name 'Dazai Osamu' was basically the give away for Japan"
"Why did you only transfer in the third year by the way. I mean it's not very usual after all.", Dazai asked, driven by curiosity.
"Well my school agreed that they do not have the means to support my talent so they transferred me. Hogwarts is the best school for wizardry and witchcraft in the end."
So he was here because he had too much talent? Somehow he highly doubted that anything the boy had said was true. Not to say that he wasn't skilled but the way he said it just didn't feel right. It just sounded like lies with a coat of honey. Everything he said sounded like it was coated by a layer of sweet, golden honey.
It was a bit like how Dazai talked, but Dazai sounded cheerful and energetic, whereas Fyodor sounded calm but the essence of their words was the same.
The rest of the meal went quietly, with Fyodor trying to eat his meal and Blaise forcing Dazai to at least eat a slice of bread with cheese. They exchanged a few meaningless words but over all it wasn't as interesting as their conversation before. Dazai was even more excited for this school year now that he knew that he was going to spend it with Dostoevsky.
The prefects all stood up in the very same second and announced that they would be walking to the common rooms together with their housemates.
Everyone at their table stood up and started following Gemma.
"Common rooms? Will we be sleeping there?" , Fyodor asked, seemingly not liking the idea by the way his face switched into a mildly disgusted look.
"Well yeah, every house has its own common rooms. We live in the cellar, it's pretty cold and dark. You'll sleep in a room with 5 people but it's pretty spacey so you can avoid them if you want."
"Will I sleep in a room with the other third graders or with the first graders because I'm new?"
"I don't know you'll probably sleep with the third graders as everything else would be kind of weird."
"Sleeping in a room together with other people is already weird"
"You get used to it after a while", Blaise suddenly intervened:" It's strange at first but over the year you get to know the people in your room and then it isn't as awkward anymore."
Before Dazai could speak up, Gemma suddenly decided to raise her voice so loud even the students at the very end could hear her:" If you want know about the common rooms Mister Dostoevsky listen to me, it's what I'm here for. Just because you're from a foreign country doesn't mean you can allow yourself everything. If I see this behaviour repeatedly throughout the school year I will have to tell Professor Snape about it."
Instead of breaking into a stumbling mess like most people would, Fyodor simply nodded and went on.
A lot of the others were now staring at the three of them but Fyodor and Blaise were simply unbothered and Dazai used to it.
Oh, they were already in the cellar, which Dazai only noticed because of the chill that went down his spine and everything around him slowly getting darker. He didn't really pay attention as to where they were going, he wouldn't be able to remember the directions after all. Screw this labyrinth of a school!
No one, not even the seventh graders, dared to talk after Gemma had, oh so nicely, reminded them that they would face Snape if they behaved out of line.
They had finally arrived at the common rooms a few minutes later.
The password was something like
'gratula', he wouldn't be entering the common rooms all too soon again so he figured it wasn't that important.
Gemma pretty much directly went to her room leaving all the others. Most of their housemates seemed rather tired and therefore went to their rooms as quickly as possible.
"Don't you want to bring your stuff into your room?", Fyodor asked, seeing Dazai's luggage.
"I'm not really looking forward to sleeping here. I have my own super special room outside, which is why I have to say goodbye to you now."
"May I see that very special room ?"
"Nope! Blaise, take care~"
Those were Dazai's last words before disappearing into the corridors.
Fyodor looked dumbfounded
"Do you know where he's going?"
"I do"
Dazai knew exactly where he was going, the room of requirement was exactly the place to be and to stay.
Having a distraction before he didn't really notice but the buzzing in his head was way stronger than last year. He thought he was past this amount of pain by simply existing in Hogwarts but it seemed as though something had changed. It wasn't that the magic in Hogwarts had gotten stronger, right?
No, this felt more as if there was another presence full of magic. It was far from Hogwart's usual presence of magic, it was the same feeling he had while entering.
This was something he had to think about more when he had the time, possibly when he finally reached the office and didn't have to drag his luggage behind him.
Ah, there he finally was!
The one place he knew the directions to.
He threw open the door only to be met with almost all of the hell hounds already there. He let out a grunt, carefully placed his stuff near the couch and gave Featherbrain in the hands of Ron, who's eyes immediately started to sparkle. Dazai would never truly understand what Ron's obsession with this owl was.
"So boss, what's the plan for this year?"
Dazai thought about it for a moment.
He definitely knew what his plan was but he'd been so busy planning out his school year that he had completely forgotten he had a gang to run.
"Well, I'd say we continue like last year. Stealing and selling exam answers is quite the moneymaker. Although maybe that is too boring for the entire year. We could sneak first/second graders and people who didn't get permission to go into Hogsmead. We'll just let them pay a certain amount for making sure they can get there and back without getting caught."
"Dazai! That's way too dangerous. We can't do that.", Hermione quickly spoke up, a look of shock on her face .
The twins on the other side were super excited for this.
"We know the perfect passageway to get to Hogsmead!", they both said at the same time.
"Well then we got that settled! We should stay anonymous though. It would be way too easy to snitch on us. So no matter what don't let anyone know who you are. Not while advertising and not while you sneak them in.
Fred, George, I'll leave that up to you!"
"Yes, boss"
"You can count on us"
Dazai would have loved to continue planning their year out but he was once again interrupted, this time by Hermione:" Dazai, I have a question. What do you think about this Fyodor guy? He just gives off such a strange vibe, almost scary."
"Yeah I was thinking the same thing. He reminds me of a rat ", Ron mumbled, still chewing on a chicken leg. Seriously where did this guy keep getting food from? Also a rat? That was absolutely the last thing he would've thought of.
"My my look who's quick to judge. You haven't even talked to him and you're already labeling him as a bad person. I wouldn't have thought of as such a judge person, 'mione !", the grin on Dazai's face only grew wider. Provoking Hermione was truly too much fun. Even though he really didn't think of Hermione out of all people to judge a person purely by their appearance.
"No no, I'm not trying to be mean I just have a weird gut feeling. I'm just saying we should be cautious."
The twins looked at eachother mischievously. This couldn't mean anything good, could it.
"You seem awfully protective though. Are you perhaps in love, Snakey?"
"Excuse you? He's a boy!"
"What, never heard of gay people?"
The room grew silent rather quickly.
Gay..... people? What the hell is a gay?
Why has he not heard of this? What kind of creature was it? He thought he was educated enough on magical creatures.
Hermione was the first to speak :
"You really... don't know, do you?"
She held her hand Infront of her mouth but couldn't suppress the giggle.
The whole room started breaking out in laughter.
Dazai just stood there, unable to say a single thing. Dazai felt like he was lacking knowledge. He hated that feeling.
"Ah, I'm sorry Dazai, I should explain. Being gay is basically when you are romantically attracted to someone with the same gender as you or when you are attracted to more than one gender."
"You're lying. That's not real. I don't know which works of fiction you are consuming."
They had got to be kidding him. This was not even a possibility. He was sure he would have heard of something like this if it would exist.
"Snakey! Homophobia is bad. "
"Have you seriously never heard of this. Gay people have existed since forever. History books will tell you that at a very early point of history it was even resented if you didn't have a side lover with the same gender as you."
Of course Hermione would be educated enough to explain.
"I think... I might have to do some research."
He still did not quite believe people like this existed ,but if Hermione said there was historical evidence, he would try to find out more about this.
"Moving on from love, down to business.
Why in the name of god do we have fortune telling as a subject?
I thought this was a school for magic and not for nonsense."
"I don't get it either . Fortune telling isn't real and the teacher is completely crazy."
He was glad that at least Hermione agrees with him on this one.
"Oh Snakey, don't worry. Fortune telling are the easiest grades ever. You just have to tell Professor Trelawney something about despair and horrible events and you get an A."
"That sounds horribly boring.
Do I even have to attend?"
"Dazai, you can't just keep failing your classes. It's a miracle you got through the last two years", Hermione scolded.
"Yeah dude, just be present. There is nothing easier than talking, especially for you."
Seriously where was he getting the food from??? He could barely process Ron's words due to having to stare at the disgusting bits of food poking out of his mouth.
Fortunately he didn't have to tell Ron that it was absolutely horrific to look at himself, Hermione did it for him.
"Ron! If you ever speak again with food in your mouth I will punch you myself."
Ron looked at Hermione with wide eyes, not believing the words he had just heard out of her mouth.
Before her brother could get himself into more trouble Ginny
intervened:" Guys! I think we have to get back to the common rooms or else we will get into serious trouble. It's almost past curfew."
"Oh my, you're right. I'm sorry, we have to go now Dazai."
Hermione was already packing her things and rushing out.
Finally everyone had cleared out.
His headache was a bit less dreadful now. He didn't even get to tell or give them everything he had wanted to but oh well tomorrow was also another day.
He still had to go through some things but all of that could wait till tomorrow.
