Chapter 1
James sat in the great hall, he was watching the love of his life. You might think of Lily, but you'd be severely wrong. He'd never loved Lily, just found her curious and the only girl worth his attention as he tried to fit in. He didn’t understand “LoVe”. Sure, he had been chasing after Lily since first year, but that was more because he heard everyone talking of getting a partner and he wanted to fit in.
Now, it was just a part of his charm. His brand, if you will. Besides, only one person had ever caught James' eye for more than a quick glance to see if they were worth his time. You might think, “oh, who's the lucky girl?”
There's no girl, it was a boy. One a year younger than him, one he couldn't get out of his mind. Every chance James got, he was watching him. Oh, he was so pretty, and so perfect! And he was all James’. Of course, he couldn't say that out loud, but he was going to accuse perfect, innocent, sweet James of putting so many people in the hospital wing after they asked someone out that No one asks them out again? No, he couldn't say he was his out right, but he could make sure no one else could have him.
“-MES!” He heard. His head snapped up from where he'd been staring at the love of his useless life. He sees his friends Sirius or Padfoot, Remus or Moony, and finally, Peter or Wormtail, staring at him, of course he finds them intriguing and curious, he didn't quite feel what others meant when they said they'd jump in front of a bullet for their friends. To him, that's just stupid.
“Sorry, what'd you say?” He asked them. He'd never told them how he never felt anything other than intrigue, but oh well. The less they know the better. He remembered to smile, pretending nothing was wrong. Just as he always had, as long as he could remember. His parents had been worried, and had taken him to multiple doctors, even muggle ones, but they all said nothing was wrong. He just didn't feel anything.
“Are you alright, prongs?” Padfoot said, obviously worried. Padfoot had been his first friend, he was extremely intriguing to James. Of course, James hated Sirius’s family. They were horrible creatures. And, they’d dared to touch what was his. Not just Padfoot, who he considers his, but his Estrella. his star. His Regulus. And they’d pay for that. James would make sure of it.
“Yeah I’m fine pads! Really! I was just thinking!” He laughs, playing normal. “I’m just worried about the transfiguration quiz today.” He plays it off. It’s not like he lied, they did have a quiz. He wasn’t worried though. He didn’t really care.
“Why are you worried? Dude, prongs, baby, your grades are perfect. And you don’t try?! Honestly. You and Moony need to share your glorious big sexy brains with some of us non smart blokes!” Padfoot says, dramatic like he always is, gesturing to himself and Peter at the end of his sentence.
“Oh don’t sell yourself short pads darling!” He laughs it off again. Moony watches us exasperated and amused. Wormtail is just… there. Like he always is. He just sat on the outskirts of the group and watched. Don’t think he’s any less they’re friend of course. He just prefers to observe. But, get him started on pranks, potions, or herbology and he’ll never shut up.
“If you two are quite done? We’ve got to go or we’ll be late, idiots.” Moony says, rolling his eyes. The small smile on his lips betrayed him though, showing his true feelings.
“Oh moony! You know you love us!” Padfoot leans against moony dramatically as he speaks, looking up at him. “Yeah moony! You love us!” He plays along. Remus sighs, shaking his head. Nonetheless, we started getting ready for our first class of the day.
I look across the hall, hoping to get one last glimpse of his Estrella. He frowns when he sees the empty space where his Estrella and his ‘friends’ once were. He must’ve already left for class. James tolerated his Estrella’s friends, knowing they would never try to get with him or hurt him.
Especially that Pandora girl. He was wary of her at first, until she cornered him and told him she didn’t want to get with him. He’s left her alone since. He left the friends alone as well, knowing they provided Regulus some entertainment.
James sighs as he stands, he won’t see him again until lunch. They have no class close enough that they pass through the same corridor. How does James know that?
Oh, simple really. Every year, like clockwork, James knocks into regulus on the first day, and grabs his schedule from the ground where it ends up and he hides it in his robes, to memorize later. He always has his schedule and Regulus’ schedule, the paths they take, and any crossovers, memorized by the next morning. How has nobody questioned this yet?
Oh that’s simple as well. It’s so long in between the incidents that nobody thinks of it, James always makes sure they’re alone, and James has made it part of his brand that he’s clumsy, so why would Regulus think anything of it? Which, it’s not that much of a lie. He is a bit clumsy. Just, not as much as people think he is.
Oh well, he’ll see his Mar later. He follows his friends, playing along to the jokes and egging Sirius on, as they make their way to the transfiguration classroom. However, if he’d been paying attention, he would’ve noticed the 3rd year old Regulus watching them. Well, James specifically.
•~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~•
Regulus knew he was different. He didn’t need anyone to tell him that. He was obsessive. Anything he liked, anything he wanted, he got. No matter what. And nobody could take it away from him. So when he got on the train his first year and saw the Latino boy staring at him from where he’d been talking to his brother, Regulus knew he’d have him eventually.
Regulus would go to any extreme for James. For example, one boy thought it’d be funny to try and hurt his Soleil. He was never found. I mean, of course he wasn’t. Regulus wasn’t a black for no reason. He made an example out of him.
It was hard to resist not to make an example out of that Evans girl, but he held back. Only because he knew James truly didn’t love her. His Soleil’s eyes were blank when he looked at her, despite what everyone thought. However, don’t think he didn’t notice his Soleil always staring at him. He loved it. His Soleil’s eyes were so full of love when he looked at him! It made him feel drunk!
His Soleil thought he didn’t notice him stealing his schedule every year? Oh he noticed. That’s why after the first year, he made copies so James could steal one. He thought it was cute. He noticed how angry his Soleil got when he was asked out, and he noticed no one asked him out any longer, and he loved that, because he only belonged to his Soleil!
The thought of him hexing and leaving those idiots in the hospital wing because they asked Regulus out, oh he loved it! It filled him with ecstasy! His Soleil could do no wrong! He was perfect! Oh how he wished he wouldn’t try to be normal! He was perfect how he was! Oh well! James would be his one day. No matter what. No one could stand in his way. Not even his overly dramatic brother, or his wolf boy toy, or that little rat.
He didn’t mind them hanging around his Soleil as long as they realized he was Regulus’ and they didn’t try to keep him away. They’d have some problems if they did that. He wouldn’t hesitate to hurt them, but he holds back, wanting his Soleil to be happy. Even if James didn’t truly feel anything, they were still intriguing to his Soleil so Regulus spares them. But. Only them.
“Regulus!” He turns around to see his… friend, I guess. Pandora certainly calls herself his friend, and so do the others. Of course, none of them knew the real him. Well, other than Pandora. She seemed to know everything.
“Yes?” He asks blankly. She was used to it. She smiles at him, most think they are together, but Dora has a thing for Evans. She also knows he’s off limits. She never even makes physical contact, not wanting to make him or his Soleil mad.
“We’re going to be late to potions.” Oh right. School. Oh well, he had all O’s anyways. He sighs as he walks off, Dora skipping alongside him. He doesn’t know how she seems to never run out of energy.
