After Christmas
After coming back from the Christmas holidays, or Yule, or whatever they called it, Titania was, once more, confronting her housemates. This time, pug-face Parkinson had wanted to mock her physical appearance. Her teeth, in particular. And, after witnessing -without being seen- the argument between her sister and her parents about righting her teeth the magic way, she decided to go about it the Slytherin way.
So, a few days later, after an entire day of lessons, she came back to the Common Room with a game plan in her head. She waited for Malfoy and his cronies to be comfortably seated in front of the fireplace and stood before him.
“I want you to cast the Teeth-Growing jinx at me, Malfoy.”
He was mute at first, likely the shock of her bold demand. And then, he laughed.
“What? Do you want to look more like a beaver than you already do? Ha! Everyone hears that? The mudblood want me to jinx her to looks like a beaver!”
Crabb and Goyle, predictably, were laughing along. Pug-face Parkinson too, simpering near the blond prat. Greengrass seemed to think there was something else beside that, but Titania didn’t let them think too hard about it.
“So, you won’t do it? The perfect occasion to jinx me, without me retaliating, and you… What? Pass?”
“You won’t retaliate? You won’t get me in trouble?”
Smirking, she held her hand in the air.
“I can swear a magical oath, if you prefer to be careful?”
He seemed to think about it for a moment, before nodding. Clasping her hand with obvious reluctance, he intoned:
“Do you, Titania Granger, swear to not retaliate or get me in trouble if I do as you want?”
“So I swear, so it will be.”
A bright flash surged from their joints hand, and the oath settled between them.
“So…” Started the girl, arching a brow at the blond prat.
He whipped out his wand and muttered an incantation. Another bright flash arose, this one hitting the brunette girl in the face. Immediately, she felt pain in her mouth, and her front teeth grew at an alarming rate. Too fast. Too painful.
“That wasn’t the jinx, but the hex, you prat!” She tried to say, but her growing front teeth got in the way.
She turned around and walked briskly out of the Common Room. When the wall slid into place behind her, she started to run toward the Infirmary. By the time she came upon the door and knocked furiously, her front teeth were hitting the ground, and she needed to tilt her head back to avoid breaking something. Either her teeth or her gum, or whatever.
“Oh, you poor dear!” Exclaimed the Matron, ushering her inside after stopping the growth with a single spell. “I will need to invert the growth. It shouldn’t be painful, but I will need you to tell me when to stop, alright?”
Promptly, Titania was sat on a bed, with Madam Pomfrey in face of her.
“Ready, dear? Alright.”
She muttered an incantation, and Titania could feel something strange in her rather long front teeth. Gripping the mirror she was handed earlier, she watched with fascination as the teeth shrunk back, albeit as a slower rhythm than their growth. It was easy to tell the Matron to stop a little later than what her teeth looked like before. When she did, she looked in the mirror at different angles to be sure it was okay. And it was.
“Thank you, Madam,” she said with a small smile.
After that, the Matron discharged her after cautioning her to come back if, somehow, her teeth hurt. And she came back to the Common Room with a smile on her lips. She needed to take her revenge on Malfoy, but it could wait a bit. She could savour a bit the fruits of her plan.
