Chapter 3

It's been 2 weeks, 2 grueling weeks. Remus has cried himself to sleep every night since the breakup. So much so that people think he’s been on drugs due to his red eyes. Remus laughs at the comments, but each time something inside him breaks. He knows that he needs to get over Sirius, he’s trying, but it seems impossible. They have so many classes together, lunch together, the same friends, and they see each other in the common room all the time.

“Moony! My man!” He hears James call, pulling him out of his thoughts.

James smiles brightly as he struts toward Remus, He’s always so happy, nothing seems to phase him or bring down his mood.

“Moony, moons, rem, mate, my best friend, buddy ol’ pal.” James lightly punches Remus in the shoulder.

“What do you want, Prongs.” Remus sighs, forcing James to ask his question.

“Will you go to this party with me tonight?” James asks, almost begging.

“James.” Remus rolls his eyes. “I have-“

“To study.” James mocks, cutting him off. “You’ve been so boring since you and pads took a break.”

Ah yes. Sirius and Remus told their friends that they were ‘on a break’ so that it wasn’t as awkward for their friends to watch as they didn’t talk.

“James, I'm being serious, there’s a test coming up in Astronomy and I can’t fail it.” Remus protests.

Remus could totally fail the test, it wouldn’t affect his grade, probably drop it down to a B, C if you're pushing it. He looked at the other man’s pleading expression.

“Fine.” Remus says, giving in.

“Yes!” James laughs, pumping his fist in the air. “Ravenclaw Tower, tonight at 9.”

Remus nodded as James continued to talk, he occasionally replied with an ‘mhm’ or a ‘yeah’. They walked all the way to the Quidditch practice field, where the Gryffindor team was practicing.

“I gotta go moons, see you later.” James says, running toward the field. “Don’t leave me hanging!”

Remus laughs as James runs off, spinning on his heels and making his way to his next class.

This is a horrible idea. Remus thinks as he walks into the Ravenclaw Tower.

“Remus!” Lily beamed, stumbling over to him. “Here, have a drink.”

Remus smiles, as he takes the cup from her hand. Lily giggles as she drags him into the dance floor with Mary, Dorcas, Marlene, and Peter. Remus allows himself to be pulled into the crowd, dancing to Dancing Queen by ABBA.

He spots Sirius, who’s leaning against a wall, talking with a chaser from the Hufflepuff Quidditch team named Aiden Kane. He watches Sirius smile as he touches his chest lightly. Remus can’t look away, overcome with jealousy and rage. Sirius continues to flirt with Aiden, he leans forward and whispers something to the chaser. And that’s what causes the string to snap.

Remus stalks over to them and grabs Sirius’ arm. Sirius, in turn, jerks in shock, surprised to see Remus standing practically on top of him. He drags them into an empty dorm room and pushes Sirius in.

“What the fuck was that for?” Sirius says, stabling himself.

“Do you even know who that was? Aiden Kane?” Remus questions.

“I wouldn’t have been talking to him if I didn’t know who he was.” Sirius retorted. “Why do you care so much? it’s not like we’re dating anymore, you’re the one who ended it anyway!”

Okay, now the string has snapped.

“Bloody hell, do you actually think I wanted to break up with you?” Remus yells.

“Obviously. Why else would you have broken up with me?” Sirius yells back.

“I was holding you back, Sirius. It was better for you! For both of us! Your mother said-“ Remus says, getting cut off by Sirius.

“My mother?! When did she talk to you?” Sirius questions.

“Easter break, that last day before we left. She said that it was better this way and that we wouldn’t last because of how different we are and that you were confused. She told me that you were supposed to be the next head of the House of Black and that if we were together it would ruin that for you.” Remus explains, looking deeply at Sirius.

“Wait, So you never wanted to break up?” Sirius asks.

“No, never!”

“You never played me?”

“No!”

“My mother made you break up with me?” Sirius falters, he knew his parents hated him but to go after his boyfriend was just cruel.

That’s when the puzzle piece falls into place. He had been manipulated by Walburga Black into breaking up with Sirius. Remus seethed as he realized, how could he be so stupid, he knew the Blacks didn’t like him and he still fell for their trick.

“God, Pads, I'm so sorry, I never meant to hurt you. I thought it was what you wanted, I’m so stu- .” Remus could hardly finish his sentence before Sirius’ lips were on his own.

Remus immediately kisses back, pulling Sirius closer to him. God, it felt good. Remus hadn’t realized how addicting Sirius and his taste was. Remus’ hands settle on Sirius’ hips as he pulls him impossibly closer. Sirius’ hands find Remus’ hair and tangle themselves in it.

“Pads, I'm so-.” Remus whispers as he takes a breath.

“Shh.” Sirius shushes him, going for another kiss.

Remus complies, kissing Sirius once again. He would never let anything come between them again, he would never be so naïve again, he would never let Sirius go again.
