Silly gay dads who survived the war with their children
Sirius walked through the flat, poking his head in the doors. Cass was in his room, messing with something of Sirius’, which makes him smile, Orion is curled up in his bed, unwilling to talk, and Remus wasn’t in any of the rooms. Sirius turned from the hallway and walked deeper into the flat. That was where Remus was, in the kitchen, making dinner. Sirius smiled, and walked behind him, slipping him into a hug from behind.
“Welcome home,”
Remus muttered, glancing back at Sirius, before looking back to the pasta. Sirius hums against Remus’s shoulder, before kissing his neck delicately. The other chuckled lightly and turned to his husband, wrapping him into a hug.
“You tired?”
Sirius nodded against Remus, holding him closer. Remus gave in a bit, curling into Sirius, holding him tight, which made the shorter snicker. Sirius stopped his giggling, placing his head on Remus’s shoulder lazily.
“I do want to talk about something though,”
He sounded serious when he talked, which made Remus tense a little. Sirius, seemingly realizing what he said sounded like something was wrong, started chuckling again and began rubbing circles into the other’s back. Remus shuddered against Sirius at the feeling.
“Not anything bad, but,”
He drew away from Remus, looking into his husband’s eyes,
“It’s a big decision I want to talk to you about it tonight, after dinner.”
Remus nodded, moving his hands up Sirius’s back and to his neck, pulling him closer again. Sirius smiled, leaning with Remus as he began closing the both of them in a kiss.
“Ew- you two have a room, ya know?”
The two pulled apart, chuckling as Cass stood in the doorframe to the kitchen, pulling a fake disgusted face. He then soon also joined the laughter and walked to his dads, smiling at them.
“We know, but it’s always more fun when there’s the possibility of getting caught,”
Sirius playfully winked at Cass before drawing him into a hug. The family did this a lot, after the war, hugging, cuddling, being close to each other. It was just natural in a sense, since they’d all been away from each other for so long. When Sirius let Cass go, the kid walked behind him, reaching for something in the cabinets. Remus quickly moved to Cass, lightly smacking the hand reaching for something.
“Dinner is almost done, so done you might as well go sit at the table,”
Cass playfully rolled his eyes, turning from the cabinets to the drawers, picking up forks for the four of them and walking to the table, placing them down. He sat on the end, lazily looking around the room like there was nothing else he could do. Remus shook his head lovingly, before moving back to the pot.
“Love, could you get Orion, please?”
“Will do, sugar,”
Cass groaned from the dining room, which was visible from the kitchen. His fathers laughed before Sirius exited the kitchen, walking back down the hallway. He paused at Orion’s door, stifling a sigh. The boy hadn’t want to speak much at all these days, which no one knew why. Sirius then carefully opened the door, quietly entering the room. Orion was still in his curled position, awake, but head cradled in the pillow below it. Sirius sighed. He wasn’t as good as Remus when it came to this.
“Ori, buddy, it’s dinner time,”
He called out softly, moving close to the bed. He knew Orion would never yell at him, but he was still cautious when he reached the boy’s bed, even more careful when sitting on it.
“I’m not hungry,”
“You’ve not been hungry every night, surely you have to be a bit hungry,”
Orion looked at Sirius, a smile ghosting on his lips before dipping back down. Merlin, he looked like Reggie. Sirius sighed and looked into Orion’s eyes pleadingly.
“Ori, is it something I did? You never eat when I’m home,”
Orion’s eyes widened and he sat up in his bed, his tangled hair still splaying itself upwards. He shook his head violently,
“No! It’s not your fault, Pads- it’s,”
He stopped shaking his head and thought about what he was going to say. He sighed and looked back to Sirius.
“It’s not something im ready to talk about,”
Sirius nodded and stood from the bed, holding a hand out, smiling,
“Well, eating together doesn’t require talking about that,”
Orion smiled and took Sirius’s hand, standing from his dip on the bed. He wobbled slightly, which made Sirius reach out and place a hand on his shoulder, steadying him. Orion, once steady, pulling Sirius into a hug, smiling as the elder stood stunned for a moment. Soon, Orion was enraptured in a hug, in which Sirius picked him up two inches from the ground. Orion erupted with laughter and they let go of the hug, taking a moment for both of them to catch their breathes.
Once done, they walked into and down the hallway, greeted by two confused Lupins. Sirius chuckled at Remus’ face and shrugged, which Remus shook his head at. Orion went and sat at the table, awkwardly messing with his tangled hair. Cass blinked at him in confusion, which Orion returned with more blinks. They shared a smile, before looking at the bowls placed on the table. Remus and Sirius joined them at the table, urging them to start pouring the food onto their plates.
Cass and Orion poured the noodles on their plates, each taking turns with both the noodles and the pasta sauce Remus had made. Both of them had seemingly lost both of their appetites during the war, food being scarce in hiding for Cass, and Orion going with days of starvation while running. That’s why Remus opts to cooking every morning, evening, and night. He insists they eat, even if not much.
Now, with all plates full of food, the small talk starts.
“So, what did you do today, Sirius?”
Remus asked, seemingly actually intrigued. Convincing the world to stop looking for Black, let alone learn the actual story was hard, so he’d been trying his best to support his public image, so his family could act at least somewhat normal.
“I helped the Weasleys today, they needed gnome help as well as some extra labor to fix the shambles of their house,”
Sirius answered, glancing up from his plate to look at Remus. Orion, on the other hand, had frozen, clutching his fork tightly. He was staring at his plate, lips formed in a frown. With a glance at Orion’s face, Sirius immediately knew what was up. He coughed, trying to move past his statement.
“Bbut I also stopped by the Malfoys,”
The table all were stiff now. Cass looked up to his father, raising an eyebrow.
“How’s Draco?”
Sirius looked at Cass and smiled.
“He’s frazzled, having been in the war in all, like the rest of us”
Sirius traveled off, before regaining his thoughts.
“But he’s fine, he’s just a tad bit angry about the fact his father is in jail, but he does understand the bloke deserves it,”
Cass nodded, looking back to his food. The conversation then just landed on more random things, starting with how Remus’ day went and landing on a story of the marauders. The kids just let the two talk, listening intriguingly to the stories of their younger years.
“And then James was caught snogging Lily in one of the broom closets,”
Sirius chuckled, his eyes locked on Remus, who was smiling at the memory. Cass made a scrunched up face and looked to his dad.
“At the table??”
“No, in a broom closet, I just said that, Cass,”
Remus and Orion bursted out laughing, the both of them holding their hands in front of their mouths as not to spill anything. When Orion swallowed what he was chewing, he looked at Sirius.
“Pads- he means ‘why would you say that at the table’-“
“Oh-“
Sirius’ face went red and now the whole table was laughing. They soon stopped, and finished their plates, heading off to their rooms. From Orion’s room there was a shout.
“I call first shower!”
He jogged out of his room, rushing to the bathroom. Cass came out after him, out of his own room groaning.
“You have nowhere to go!”
“I smell!”
“you’re overreacting!”
“Just wait like 15 minutes,”
“You’ll use all the hot water!”
“I take cold showers. Blame the no water on Pads!”
Remus and Sirius laughed as they heard stomps leading into the younger’s bedroom. They walked together to their room, settling into comfy clothes. Remus was in the middle of changing his shirt when Sirius spoke.
“So, Remus, about earlier- the decision?”
Remus turned, looking at his husband as he put his soft, worn out shirt from the 80s, nodding for him to continue.
“It’s- really- I-“
Sirius looked down to his hands, fidgeting with them. Remus moved closer, leaning closer to the place where Sirius was sitting on their bed, bringing the other’s face by his chin.
“Honey, it’s okay to be nervous, but , what’s up?”
Sirius exhaled, and stood, holding onto Remus’ elbows.
“I think- I think I want another kid. We won’t have to worry about money, because I have the Black family money, we can get a bigger place, and- and-“
Remus was shocked, but his bewildered expression changed into a face of fondness. He engulfed Sirius in a hug, squeezing him tight.
“I’d gladly have another,”
