Chapter 7

Barty’s POV:

Yesterday was hard. Finding the courage to tell James about the abuse was not something I thought I’d ever be doing. But, now that I had got it out, I felt relieved. It felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.

However, today seemed like it was going to be even harder. We were having dinner with James’s parents today.

It would be me and Evan’s first time formally meeting them.

When they were here they had only stayed for a few minutes. They had said they needed to get back so that Euphemia wasn’t late to work. Apparently, she works as a healer at St. Mungo’s.

I was pacing my dorm trying to find my rings. I had managed to find Evan’s rings, Regulus’s rings, and even a bracelet that I was 50% sure was James's, but none of us were completely sure of whose stuff was whose anymore. The only thing we knew for sure was that if it was red and said ‘Gryffindor’, it was James’s.

“Here,” Evan held out the little box that contained my rings. “You seem nervous, love,”

“Wow, thanks for stating the obvious,” I rolled my eyes as I put my rings on.

Evan used his finger to move my chin so I faced him and locked our lips together.

After a way-too-short kiss, Ev pulled away. “I’m nervous too, baby. Hell, I’m terrified. These are the people we are going to be living with. They will be the ones in charge. Even if what James and Regulus say is true, we’re still going into this situation mostly blind. We just have to trust our loves and keep an open mind.”

“I know, I know, I’m trying. I just don’t want to mess up and do or say something wrong,” I turned and buried my face in his neck, hugging him tightly.

“You won’t. We’ll have James and Reggie there. Even if we can’t trust Mr. and Mrs. Potter, we can trust James and Reggie,” Evan reassured me as I pulled away and took a deep breath.

“We can trust James and Reggie,” I repeated, we kissed again then separated to finish getting ready.

James’s POV:

I was stressed out.

Hearing everything yesterday was definitely a shock. I can’t say I was surprised. I knew what Reggie and Padfoot have been through, so I had already assumed similar things had happened to Barty and Ev. But actually hearing it, having it confirmed, that was hard to hear.

Then today, I had to separate from them which is the last thing I want. I want to be with them. Holding them.

But, I had to go to my own dorm to get ready for dinner tonight.

I was walking around, trying to find my damn bracelet. It had been a gift from my mum when I was young and she wanted me to wear it tonight. The only problem was that I couldn’t find it.

“Breathe, mon amour. Everything will be fine. Your parents will love both of them,” Reggie said as he hugged me from behind, effectively stopping my movements.

“I’m not worried about my parents liking them. I want them to feel safe around my parents. I want them to feel safe where they will be living,” I explained as Reggie tightened his grip.

“That is the most you sentence ever said. Ever,” Reggie punctuated his words with kisses to my shoulder over my shirt.

“What does that mean??”

“You always make sure that everyone around you is safe and happy. You’re our protector. Like a lion,” Reggie traced his finger lightly over my Gryffindor emblem ring.

I giggled and interlaced our fingers. “We should go check on Barty and Evan. I wonder if my bracelet is in their dorm. Mum won’t be happy if I’ve lost another gift. She said- joked- that the next time I lose something, she’s gonna find it and glue it to my head.” I made sure to make it very clear that she was joking, knowing it eased my loves’ nerves.

“Yeah, we probably should. We don’t need a boyfriend with a bracelet glued to his forehead like some kind of fucked up unicorn.” Reggie chuckled at his own joke and rested his head against my back.

“Well come on, funny boy.” I joked as I stepped out of his grip and grabbed my phone before walking with him to the Slytherin dorms.
