Chapter 5
Barty’s POV:
“We should tell him, Barty,” Evan spoke from one of the beds, who knew whose bed was who’s at this point.
“Tell who, what?” I asked as I pretended to continue with my potions essay. I knew exactly what he was talking about. He wanted to tell James about the abuse.
“Tell James about how bad our parents truly are,” Evan said as the door opened and Regulus walked in with his quidditch gear.
His hair was messed up, probably from rubbing a towel over it to dry it after his post-practice shower. He was in Evan’s sweatpants and my T-shirt. He looked divine and I couldn’t stop the words from leaving my mouth.
“I love you,” Regulus and Evan both froze. And so did I.
I hadn’t meant to say it. Not yet at least. I wanted James to be here as well when I told them.
I truly love them but I’ve always had trouble expressing my emotions. It’s why I try to show them rather than speak them.
Despite the similarities between me, Evan, and Reggie, we all had different ways of expressing our love.
James was the most open with it. He’d tell you he loved you as a stim. Just because he could. His love was loud, powerful, and overwhelming if you weren’t used to or ready for it.
Regulus loved through touch. He didn’t allow many people to touch him but if he did, you couldn’t get him off you. Not that any of us were complaining over that fact though.
Evan loved through acts. And food. Evan doesn’t look it but he is a great cook. He shows his love by running small errands, answering the last couple of questions on homework because you fell asleep, and cooking a hot meal to make you feel better.
Evan and Regulus rarely say the three words but when they do it’s always special.
I showed my love through quality time. Just being in the same room as my boyfriends was enough for me.
Saying the words was hard for me. It always had been. Expressing your emotions was never allowed in my house so it became a foreign concept to me.
However, I had been feeling my walls crumple under Regulus’s hugs, Evan’s soup, and James’s loud words.
I was brought out of my head by Regulus and Evan both hugging me tightly. I stood up to meet them so that they wouldn’t have to bend over.
James chose that moment to blast the door open and run in. Managing to keep the door from hitting the wall and closing it surprisingly quietly.
That’s another thing James did to show his love.
3 months ago James saw Evan flinch when he slammed a door. He didn’t say a word to Evan about it. Only giving him that questioning look that asked what was wrong, if he was okay, and if he wanted to talk all in one look. One look that was completely full of love.
James hasn’t slammed a door since. He was even careful about setting things down too loudly.
James looked at all of us. He gave us that look. The silent one that asked us if we wanted to talk.
We almost never did, want to talk, but James always gave us that look.
Evan, Regulus, and I shared our own look.
“I’m gonna tell him about what happened to me, Panda gave me her permission,” Evan whispered.
“I told James after Siri ran away,” Regulus whispered back.
“Evan, can you start? I’ll try to say it after but, I’m not sure I’ll be able to handle it right now.”
Evan and Regulus both nod and we all turn towards James.
“I’m guessing we need to talk?” James asked as he ran his hands through his hair.
“My first question is why did you run in here like your pants were on fire??” Regulus asked.
“Um… You’d have to ask Padfoot that. The prank was his idea, not mine.” James answered as he tried to hide his smile.
We all let out a small laugh as we moved towards the bed and got mentally ready to talk.
