His Gaze

His lips twitch into a sneer. It was hard enough to be dealing with a disease. A blood disease at that. But to be dealing with a blonde boy who waltzed into his life like they’d been best of buddies, it soured his mood even more as Wilkes who’s name he was force to know. (from all the whispers of a German transfer student from Durmstang.)

Looked to him of all people. Avery knew once he saw that blonde haired student, he was going to be a pain in the ass. His eyes almost rolled up into his skull when he saw that the transfer student was charming the Slytherin table. The blonde, Wilkes was placed into Slytherin. Avery was doubting where that hat made a mistake. Wilkes was certainly Hufflepuff.

That was until he saw a gleam in the blue-eyed boy that he was able to change the slightest perception of him. It was like a seeing an actor play his part well. The blonde was making small talk with the other Slytherins. He was ever so unamused by the blonde’s display and charisma.

He scoffed as he moved his food around the plate, his mood making him unable to stomach anything.

Mulciber beside him raised his eyebrow, curious with his behavior. “Has the new student ruffled up your mood?”

Avery looked at Mulciber with a roll of his eyes as his gaze looks toward the blonde with disdain. “His presence is obnoxious. I can feel him from a mile away.”

Mulciber chuckles, “My-my what’s got your panties in a twist? You aren’t like this towards any new student. In fact, you look at everyone like they’re dirt beneath your shoe.”

Avery mocks him, “Like my responses are any different. Your delusions are infecting me, keep it to yourself and that filthy half-blood.”

Mulciber scoffs disapprovingly, “Whatever Ed, I’m just saying your mood changed ever since Wilkes transferred here.”

Avery rolls his eyes. “Oh great, you know his name.”

His gaze goes back to the blonde and they make eye-contact. Wilkes smiles but there was something different in his gaze. It seems like a switch was flipped. He sneers and scoffs as he looks back to his plate.

Wilkes smiles as if amused by his behavior across the table. His eyes twinkling like he’d found something new and interesting to evaluate and figure out.
