After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union, the world finds itself in the 1990s - a decade of worldwide tumult. And while the British wizarding world seems largely indifferent to the outside world while dealing with its own affairs, a Durmstrang student has to deal with the defeat of Socialism and the annexation of East Germany in her own way while her mother takes up a diplomatic position in the United Kingdom's Ministry of Magic. Transferring to a new school, in a foreign country, with an anathemic way of thinking. East must meet West, and Katarina falls square in the middle of it all.
