The Memories

Snape slowly looked through the pile of letters, organizing them by age. He started from they youngest age.

-----------

Harry was just a baby, it was him seeing his mother be killed and Voldemort attempting to kill him. The memory was slightly distorted after Lily's face.

------------

Snape looked at another one, one from when he was 6.

------------

Harry was sitting in the office of the principal of his school. Harry has a bruised cheek and a set of broken glasses.

"What you did was very wrong Harry. You shouldn't have hit that boy." The principal spoke sternly to the young Harry. "I have called your Uncle in."

Harry looked frightened, scared of his Uncle. Harry didn't say anything, just looking down at the ground. It wasn't long before Vernon barged into the room. Grabbing Harry harshly.

"My apologies principal. I shall be taking Harry home and having a discussion with him at home." Before the principal could even say anything Vernon had dragged Harry to the car. Shoving him harsh enough in to hurt his shoulder. Harry didn't have his glasses, he left them in the principals office. Vernon, slammed the door, walking to the Drivers door and getting in. Vernon was mad. "No food until Saturday!" Vernon yelled. It was only Monday and Harry didn't know if he could last that long. "And you'll receive a beating!"

Upon the arrival and Number 4 Privet Drive, Vernon grabbed Harry and threw him inside the house. Petunia and Dudley weren't home just yet so Vernon could hurt Harry without interruption. Vernon took of his belt and started to hit Harry with the metal end. Aiming for his head and his neck, hoping to hurt Harry as much as possible.

Harry had started to cry, quietly whimpering from the pain.

"Shut up boy! If you don't you'll receive a punishment like this for a week!" Vernon yelled. Hitting Harry's head once again, hitting him way too hard. The belt had gotten logged in a part of Harry's head. He had most definitely cracked his skull. Harry wailed and held him head. His vision going black, he couldn't pass out not yet! Harry couldn't keep himself up anymore. He just laid on the ground limply. Vernon took his belt from Harry's head a steady stream coming from it. Vernon through Harry into his cabinet.

When Harry woke again he was on the couch. Petunia was gently stitching the part of his head back together.

"Don't move Harry." Petunia spoke uncharacteristically soft. The needle hurt. Harry was tightly grabbing onto the blanket. He was trying to not make a sound. Several tears fell down his face. Petunia when finished actually hugged the boy. "You'll be okay Harry, just rest." That was the only time Petunia held Harry. Harry soon fell asleep. Petunia had gently set him in his cabinet.

------------

Snape felt sick. He felt like he was going to vomit. Snape pushed down the feeling. Shifting through more. The sickness continued to grow the more memories he saw. He could see why it was harder for Harry to eat, why Harry was so skinny, why Harry was so scared, and why Harry didn't trust him. Snape pulled another one from when Harry was 11.

------------

Harry was standing in front of that glass case. Speaking to a snake in a case. Dudley had pushed him and the glass disappeared, letting the snake out and Dudley falling into the tank. Harry watched the snake leave. Harry didn't even realize when the glass had reappeared and Vernon's face of anger. It wasn't long before Harry was being slammed into the wall of his cabinet under the stairs.

"You will not leave this cupboard for the next 5 days. If you leave I will give you the beating of your life." Vernon stated through the slits of the air vent in the cupboard.

Harry had wept and wept. All he could do was cry until he passed out. Harry was thankful for the glass of water the would be filled up every morning for him. He didn't know who did it, but all he could believe had done it was his Aunt. Harry did sneak out of the cabinet to use the bathroom, but was caught on the last day. His punishment was to be sat outside in the rain with no clothes on and he had to sit in the rain, if he left the rain Vernon would smack his face. Harry got smacked five times that night.

------------

It wasn't like Snape could vomit while in Harry's head, but Snape had to cover his mouth and sit there and calm himself. He was still stuck in the one from when Harry was 6. It made him so very ill. The next one Snape opened was from when Harry was 12.

------------

"You freak!" Vernon yelled. The cake falling on the mans head wasn't Harry's fault. "My most sincere apologies. I'll have him dealt with. Petunia, could you help our guest clean up?"

Petunia mutely nodded, showing the couple their way to the bathroom.

Vernon drug Harry up the stairs. Throwing him in his room Vernon started to yell, low enough so the guests wouldn't hear. "No food for 5 days! You won't be going to that school and I'm going to give you a beating!" Vernon had left the room, going to Dudley's and grabbing his schools smelling stick. When Vernon entered Harry's room he spoke to Harry again. "Lay on the floor now, boy!"

Harry did as he was told. Harry could feel the repetitive hits of the stick, thick bleeding lines on his back. Some hadn't broken skin and had just left welts in their wake. With a final blow to Harry's back, Vernon left, returning the cane to Dudley's room.

------------

Snape felt ill, he couldn't do this anymore. There was still more to go through, Snape could barely get through them. Every single one was worse than the last. The feeling of sickness, kept growing and growing. By the last one Snape had wanted to puke. He slowly pulled himself from Harry's mind. Having to fight off the urge to vomit. When Snape looked at Harry he looked so pitiful. Tears streaming down his face from having to remember all of the horrid memories he tried to keep down. Snape felt pity and guilt for treating the boy the way he did. Snape wanted to hold Harry. Snape could feel the want to be held to have some sort of comfort in many of those memories. He knew the word that hurt Harry. Calling Harry "boy" wasn't the best idea. Snape would have to keep that in mind. Snape gingerly touched Harry, resting a gentle hand on Harry's shoulder.
