3rd year
James
Third year continued in much the same way as second, James had not given up on Lily, and every little thing he learns about her only makes him like her more. Lily is strong and independent and a fighter, and she does not need James in the slightest, and James loves her for it. He doesn't want her to need him, but he needs her and he wants, he needs, her to want him.
The rest of the marauders have started making fun of him for it, saying that he needs to let go and accept that Lily simply does not like him like that. And he does accept it, he respects it, he would never ever try to force her, but he is just so sure of her, this is the girl for him, and if she never wants him, that would be ok, but she is the only girl he will ever want, he has been sure of that since the day he first saw that beautiful red haired girl on the platform when they were both 11.
It's in the middle of that year that he, Sirius, and Peter manage the animagus transformation, and start joining Remus on the full moons, Sirius refusing to leave his side even in the morning, staying until Pomfrey comes to collect him and hiding under the cloak when she enters the room, then immediately rushing to the hospital wing to meet him.
James has a feeling they are going to end up dating, he hasn't said anything about it yet, he's waiting for them to figure it out.

Lily
Lily throws herself into school her 3rd year, she has decided she wants to be a healer. She is still top of her class, and is working hard to keep that title.
James potter has not matured, or left her alone, she really wishes he would pick one.
Mary and Marlene have started dating, and Lily is happy for them.
Petunia has stopped talking to her entirely, and it's breaking her heart. She loves her sister, but what can she possibly do? Their parents keep saying to just give her time but it's been 3 years and Tunny just hates her more and more.
Sev has started talking about a “Dark Lord” which makes Lily nervous, he seems so serious about it.
That is when he talks to her at all, which has become less and less, it's starting to bother lily.
But either way, she has Marls and Mary, and Remus, who has quickly become her best friend.
Altogether, Lily's 3rd year is a happy one, maybe the last truly happy year she would get. Looking back, she wishes she had appreciated it more.
