The Train
James
James was absolutely buzzing with excitement on the train platform on September 1st. This was the moment he had been waiting for as long as he could remember. This was the start of the rest of his life. Peter, sniffling slightly, had run off to hug his parents one last time, and, though James had teased him for it, he had teared up slightly when he hugged his own parents goodbye.
Standing by his parents, he looks around the platform, and a girl with long flaming red hair and freckles catches his eye. She seems to be arguing with a slightly taller, skinnier girl with short, blunt brown hair. “Tunny please” he hears her beg, she sounds close to tears, and for some reason, he just can’t take his eyes off of her. She is undoubtedly pretty, but that isn’t what he notices about her first, there is something that he likes about her, he just can't quite put his finger on what. Then, the train whistle blows, and the moment is broken.
James walks through the train, Peter trailing behind him, looking for a place to sit. He does not see the red headed girl again, and for some reason, it makes him slightly sad, he shakes it off, he doesn't even know her name. They find a compartment with only one other person, and slip inside.
James smiles at the black haired boy in their compartment and holds out his hand, “Hi” he says brightly “i’m James Potter, this is Peter Pettegrew, do you mind if we sit here?” The boy looks wary, but he shakes James’ hand anyway, “Black” he says “Sirius Black, my parents wouldn't want me talking to you”, he pauses, then grins “so sure, sit down”.

Lily
Lily has been waiting for this day for 3 months, since she got the letter telling her about the world she belonged to, she could not possibly be more excited to learn all she can about this new, mysterious world. Except that Tunny is mad at her, her big sister, once her best friend, has been giving her the cold shoulder for 3 months. She had said it was because Lily was a freak, but Lily knew it was because she was afraid of getting left behind. As much as Lily had tried to talk to her, Petunia simply would not let her, and it broke her heart, she loved her sister. But still, she thought as she and Severus boarded the train, there would be time to make up with Tunny, for now, she’s off on the greatest adventure of her life.
She and Severus sit with a group of boys that, evidently, he knows. The 3 boys and Severus start chatting, he doesn't introduce her, and the boys make no effort to include her in the conversation. She can’t quite tell what they're talking about but a lot of names that Lily has never heard but that all the boys seem to know are mentioned, and she hears something about the “sacred 28”, the word “mudblood” is said more than once. She tunes them out eventually, looking out the window and wondering what Hogwarts is going to be like.
