Dawn > Callum
Dawn: Could we talk real quick? I want to show you something
Callum: Sure just let me untangle myself from the cuddle pile
Dawn: Of course I’ll meet you in the backyard
Callum: How did you untangle yourself so quick? You were at the bottom of the pile?
Dawn: Skills~
Callum: You're a dork
Dawn: You love it
Callum: I do
Callum: I know you blushing don’t deny it
Dawn: Shut up
Callum: Never <3
“So what did you want to show me?” Callum asked curiously as he took a seat on the porch swing next to Dawn who was shifting uncomfortably.
“So this isn’t something I intentionally hid from you or anything, I’m just not super comfortable showing them off” She explained and Caallum tilted his head to the side curiously only for eyes to widen when Dawn turned and slipped her sweater and shirt up so that he could see her back.
“Are these…?” Callum trailed off as he gently touched one of the intricate designs on the blondes back who nodded.
“I tend to keep them covered because when people see them they ask about my wings, and well…” She trailed off softly as a pair of wings sprouted from her back and Callum covered his mouth in shock as a choked off sound of horror escaped him as he processed the tattered wings before him.
“What happened?” He asked worriedly as he gently touched one of the wings and Dawn opened her mouth to respond only to be interrupted by a horrified gasp coming from the screen door, they both whipped their heads around and saw Julian standing there with a pained expression on his face.
“Julian?” Dawn questioned as the duck hybrid rushed over and kneeled next to the porch swing as he hesitantly touched one of the wings.
“You have wings...” He muttered to himself as he stared at them while tears appeared n his eyes, his own wings flapping in distress.
“Yeah I do” Dawn mumbled softly as she reached out to rub Julian’s head who grit his teeth angrily as he glanced up at the blonde.
“Who did this to you?!” He asked angrily as he sat up a little bit so that he could properly look at Dawn with Callum following suite.
“My old foster father” Dawn said softly as she slipped her wings away and pulled her shirt and sweater back down. Callum reached out to gently cup her face while trailing his thumb along the scar there while a pained whine escaped Julian.
“Why?” Callum asked softly and Dawn leaned into his hand slightly.
“He had a daughter who never got to experience the joy of having wings so there for neither should I” She remarked almost tiredly and Callum pulled her into a warm hug while Julian shot to his feet with a distressed expression on his face.
“You’ve never flown before or or anything like that?!” He questioned alarmed and Dawn nodded.
“I was a late bloomer and as soon as they emerged…” She trailed off with a shrug which earned her another pained whine from Julian.
“I am so sorry Dawn” He whimpered and a confused look appeared on both Callum and Dawn’s faces.
“Why are you apologizing?” Dawn questioned baffled and Julian wrung his hands together as his distressed expression grew.
“I’ve flown in front of you, hell I’ve even gotten you to groom my wings before! Seeing me carelessly display my wings around must have seemed like I was rubbing salt into a wound” He whimpered and Dawn immediately shot up to her feet so that she could place her hands on Julian’s shoulders, forcing him to look her in the eyes.
“Never apologize for your wings Julian, I felt honoured to groom your wings, watching you fly is amazing, just because I can’t do that doesn’t mean you should feel guilty for being able to” She said sternly to which Julian bit his lip anxiously as his mind ran a mile a minute.
“But-” He began to say only to be immediately shushed by Dawn.
“I have long since accepted what happened to my wings, just because I never got to experience the joys of having wings doesn’t mean I’m jealous of you or Cyrus, Sally, Ezran and Elowen” She said seriously and Julian nodded softly in understanding, Dawn smiled before pulling the duck hybrid down onto the porch swing next to her while Callum wrapped his arm around her shoulder comfortingly.
“Is there any way to fix them?” Callum asked softly and a warm smile appeared on Dawn’s face as she leaned into her boyfriends side.
“There is an extremely expensive and experimental surgery that could fix them and the children have created a go fund me for it and have convinced me to allow it after years of my family attempting the same thing” She remarked fondly earning her chuckles from both men.
“Who all knows and how did they find out?” Julian asked curiously as he leaned onto Dawn’s arm slightly.
“My mom and Gabriel found out because it was in my file, Caspian found out after we grew closer and I trusted him enough to show him, Cyrus and Elowen found out cause my mom brought me to them hoping that they could help with any lingering pain which is also how Techno found out cause he saw Cyrus messaging them, I told Soren because he’s one of my oldest friends and practically my brother, I told the children after Ezan’s wings came in and Briar found out because Vesper can’t lie to save his life” He listed in amusement earning even more laughter from the duo.
“Once your wings are fixed we have to go flying together” Julian mumbled tiredly as he rested his head on Dawn’s shoulder, his energy now all gone.
“Of course” Dawn mumbled softly as she reached up to run her fingers through Julian hair lulling the man to sleep before turning to look at Callum who was smiling at her softly.
“Thank you for trusting me with this Dawn” He said warmly as he leaned forward to kiss her cheek to which Dawn smiled as a blush dusted across her cheeks.
“Of course” She repeated as she snuggled into Callum’s side.
“What kind of hybrid are you anyways? I’ve never seen wings like that before” Callum asked curiously as Dawn placed her head on his shoulder.
“An ender dragon” She mumbled sleepily, she had been staying up the last few days making sure that Techno and Briar were okay so she was running on empty.
“That’s so fucking cool” Callum said cheerfully as his eyes sparkled slightly earning him an amused chuckle from Dawn as she let her eyes slip shut. Callum smiled warmly as he pulled her and Julian closer before allowing his own eyes to slip shut.
Cyrus paused as he made his way passed the screen door and glanced out towards the porch swing only to smile warmly at the trio, he snapped a quick picture before continuing his way towards the kitchen.
