Accident
Soren grinned in amusement as he watched Dawn carefully put her gift for Callum together, they were supposed to be working on a school project but they got bored rather quickly of it.
“Your such a simp” He said fondly and Dawn just huffed as she glanced towards him with a deadpanned expression on his face.
“Your one to talk” She said as he stared pointedly at the ring on Soren’s finger and all he did was smile brightly down at it, he had gotten Julian, Eric and himself matching promise rings yesterday and every time he looked at it it made him ridiculously happy. It was a simple silver band with two gems resting in the centre, his were blue and purple while Julian’s were purple and orange and Eric’s were blue and orange.
Speaking of Julian his phone suddenly started ringing and his smile grew as he picked up the phone only for it to drop as he heard the sobbing coming from the other end.
“Julian? What’s wrongs?” He asked worriedly as he sat up properly and Dawn sent him a concerned look, his eyes widened in shock as he listened to what Julian was telling him.
“What do you mean Aspen’s in the hospital?!” He shouted in alarm as he bolted up onto his feet and Dawn gasped in shock as she also got to her feet. Julian let another choked off sob as he tried to explain but Soren gently shushed him.
“Hey sshh sshh it’s okay, it’s okay I’ll be right there don’t worry, it’s going to be okay” He said comfortingly and after a few more reassurances he hung up and glanced at Dawn who had already picked up her keys.
“Come on let’s go” She said seriously and Soren nodded as they both rushed out of the room only to slam right into Caspian who had been making a beeline for the stairs.
“Wow Cas what’s the rush?” Dawn asked as she steadied her brother who looked a little frazzled and was gripping his phone tightly.
“I have to get to the hospital” He said seriously and Dawn’s face softened.
“You heard about Aspen?” He asked softly and her brother nodded as his grip on his phone tightened.
“Come on I’ll drive” She said comfortingly and Caspian nodded in relief as the three of them resumed rushing out of the house leaving behind a confused Eliza as she watched them get into the car and speed away the snacks she had made for Dawn and Soren still held in her arms.
“What happened?” She mumbled to herself in confusion/concern.
When they got to the hospital Soren made a beeline for Julian who was being comforted by Eric while Caspian went to sit next to Arven who was sitting a little ways away with his head in his hands so Dawn sat next to Logan who had a closed off expression on his face.
“What happened?” She asked softly and Logan didn't respond for a while before he finally let out a tired sigh as he turned to face her slightly.
“Arven and Aspen got into an argument when they were driving back from the store and Arven didn’t see the drunk driver until it was to late” He said softly and Dawn’s eyes widened as she quickly glanced at Arven who had a gauze wrapped around his head and a few cuts and bruises but nothing to serious. He had tears rolling down his face while Caspian tried to comfort him but it was clear he wasn’t really getting through to the creeper hybrid.
“How bad is it?” She asked worriedly as she glanced at Logan who shrugged his shoulders.
“We don’t know yet, but… but I don’t think it's good” He said as emotion finally leaked into his voice as he reached up to rub at his eyes to try and hide the tears that were trying to escape. Dawn let out a soft sound as she pulled her friend into a hug to which he stiffened slightly before leaning into it, their friendship had been a little tense lately as it seemed like Logan was avoiding her but right now that didn’t matter all that mattered was making sure her friend was okay.
“Are you all here for Aspen Undergrove?” A nurse asked softly as she approached them and Arven quickly stood up only to slightly sway on his feet, Caspian quickly stood up as well and steadied him so that he wouldn’t fall over.
“Is he alright?” He asked worriedly and the nurse gave him a gentle smile that had a slight sadness to it that made all of their stomach twist fearfully.
“He's stable right now and is expected to make a full recovery” She said comfortingly and everyone let out a sigh of relief as Arven slumped into Caspian’s side.
“However” She began which made everyone tense right back up.
“The damage to his right arm was to serve and we, unfortunately, had to amputate” She said remorsefully and Arven covered his mouth as he went deathly pale the only thing keeping him from collapsing was Caspian’s steady hands. Aspen had already lost both his legs and now he had lost his arm? He knew that Dryads were a bit more fragile then humans or hybrids but what more could the world take from him?
“Can… can we see him?” Julian asked hopefully and the nurse nodded.
“Only one visitor at a time” She said and everyone glanced at Arven who seemed to still be in his own head, Caspian squeezed his shoulder comfortingly making the man glance up at him.
“You should go see him” He said softly and Arven bit his lip anxiously, if he hadn’t instigated that stupid argument he might have been able to see the drunk driver sooner, he might have been able to get out of the way in time. It was his fault that Aspen lost his arm would he even want to see him?
“Just go Arven” Logan said seriously and he took in a deep breath as Caspian squeezed his shoulder comfortingly once more before he followed the nurse towards Aspen’s room. As soon as he stepped into the room he felt his heart break as he saw just how small Aspen looked.
“Pen” He whimpered softly as tears welled back up in his eyes and Aspen turned to look at him with a sad tired look in his eyes.
“Arven” He mumbled as he reached his arm out towards the creeper hybrid who wasted no time rushing over and gently pulling him into a hug as the tears spilt down his face.
“I am so sorry Aspen” He sobbed and Aspen gently shushed him as he ran his hand down his back comfortingly.
“Arven it’s okay it’s not your fault” He said comfortably and Arven pulled away a little bit to give him a confused look.
“But-” He tried to say only for Aspen to shush him once again as he gave him a stern look.
“But nothing Arven, just hold me please?” He asked softly and Arven nodded as he pulled Aspen back into a hug as he swore to himself that he would give up his own arm before he ever let Aspen get hurt again.
