If books could rise any interest in Harriette's humble and sometimes weak mind, this book did it's best to prove it. The pile of paper was as confusing as a rainbow in the middle of a winter. It spoke of dragon lords and dragon riders, a family coming to power with the use of dragons in war, and the blood spilled from their enemies in their conquest of the seven kingdoms. All leading to throne made of swords and dragonfire. Harriette wasn't a superstitious kind and at first it seemed like a book for children or adults in search for fantasy. But she knew better, her time in the wizarding world proved to her that magic was real and was flowing through her very veins. Of course she didn't finish the giant book yet, but it was interesting and confusing as hell, how can someone write so many names and stories was beyond her.
The more confused part seemed to be the man from two days ago, he didn't say his name so Harriette was once again left in the dark. As if her friends and so called family didn't ignore her enough. They didn't write to her or tried to get a hold of her being. Except for Hermione's last letter in June about how she must do her school homework and not ignore them till term. The usual nonsense, but she was grateful even for that. Sirius was silent as well. She missed them. Sirius, Ron and Hermione, Hogwarts as a whole and every friends she made along the way. Ron was an easy jealous kind of guy, during the Triwizard tournament he really pissed her and made her feel like crap. He honestly believed she wanted to enter and win ultimate fame. That wasn't a good time for sure, she forgave him of course, but the pain was still there. Her win didn't give her any pleasure, her prize was given to the Weasley twins, not a single galleon could bring what was lost back, some students believed she murdered Cedric herself for the fame, how could anyone believe that? One thing was for sure, even if they believed her sayings that Voldemort was back or not, Fudge seemed steadfastly in his doings and made himself believe it was a lie. It didn't matter, Lord Voldemort returned and it was just a matter of time till he will make his move and then there will be no place to hide.
Back to her current state, Harriette was laying in bed with the book while she waited for Hedwig. In a couple of hours Vernon will wake to leave for work and so the day will start again. When she arrived at the start of her summer Made-eye Moody talked some sense into her uncle and now, thanks to him, she had as much freedom as she could. Petunia and Dudley only changing necessary words, her trunk with all her belongings was by her in Dudley's old room, they mostly ignored each other and it was good. Vernon still found ways to annoy her, sometimes yelled at her for stuff she didn't do, endless fighting. He was aware of her magic, but he was also aware she could get in trouble if she used it. The Hedwig rule for example was still a thing, she had to buy groceries for them and help Petunia clean the house. Sometimes leave the house, so their friends won't see her. It was risky for them to be seen housing a freak they said. Mostly she was out so it didn't really matter anymore.
For some time Harriette taught of leaving this place, there was nothing here for her. Her relatives didn't want her as they often reminded her, the only string she was holding were the blood wards. Her mother was protecting her still, even in her grave. Voldemort could not hurt her if she was still living in here, at least what Dumbledore told her before time and time again. She wanted to live with Sirius like he promised, or anywhere away from here. She knew it was a mistake, Harriette didn't want to be caught yet. She valued her freedom. It was all that mattered.
These thoughts didn't stop her curiosity. For 6 hours now she was officially 15 of age, she could decide her faith for the last month till school. As she forced to read another page of the enormous book she decided to accept the invitation and use the portkey just a bit later. She wanted to understand this and find what Alden Whitney wanted to say. All of a sudden pain blinded her vision and made her slump on the bed. Her scar was aching with pain so livid she moved her hand to her forehead and took a fetus position on the bed. As soon as it started the pain ended. Voldemort couldn't be near, this kind of pain only occured in his presence or in a vision. This like the last eight times this summer meant one thing. Voldemort had strong feelings and Harriette doubted it was fear, he was angry. She didn't know about what, it could be her or someone else.
Harriette relaxed and stretched her legs, placing the book 'FIRE AND BLOOD' by her side.
Knocks on the window made her freeze in her bed, she gazed at the window and saw no one other than her familiar Hedwig. The Snowy owl was as white as ever, her feathers shining behind the glass in the sunrise rays, her yellow eyes waited the window to open before flying to Harriette's back and rub her head on the shirt as a sign of affection.
''hello little bird, I've missed you'' stroking her feathers lightly calmed both souls, the bird seemed like she managed to hunt something. Even so, she grabbed a treat from a drawer and held it for her to grab it. Sounds of a doors being opened and closed meant Vernon wake to prepare for work, Petunia passed her door rushing down to make his lunch and probably breakfast. Harriette changed into pj's and decided sleeping a few more hours before leaving. Little she knew it might be the last peaceful sleep for some time.
