The Last of the Potters

Chapter Three

The Last of the Potters

Peter had ducked behind a wall as soon as the fighting started. He couldn’t risk being dragged into a fight against the Death Eaters. The Dark Lord already didn’t trust him. But, nor could he risk the Order seeing him siding with the Death Eaters.

Thus, he heard the conversation between time-travelling Unspeakable Harry Potter right until they cast muffalto on themselves. The man who introduced himself as Tyler was Harry Potter from the future.

But more importantly he had seen Bellatrix’s parentage reveal spell. There had been no sign of any parents but Lily and James. If Harry had been blood adopted as Lily and James had claimed there would be another set of names.

They were lying.

But why?

Because of the Prophecy.

James had told him about the Prophecy that said a child born at the end of July was destined to defeat the Dark Lord. But he had been quite convinced that it didn’t apply to Harry because he was adopted and his date of birth not even accurate.

But that was obviously a lie.

Thus, Peter waited until future Harry had gone back to the future. Lily, Moony and Padfoot had left the scene and apparated to his Lord’s side. The Dark Lord needed to know the truth that he was being duped.

He would reward Peter most handsomely for the information.

He would trust him.

His place in the new world would be assured.

Because Peter had seen the signs, seen how badly the Ministry was losing day by day. Sure Dumbledore was holding the Dark back to a small degree now but he was one man and one day he would falter and then there would be nothing stopping the Dark Lord.

And the Ministry would fall.

And the Dark Lord would win!

It was best to ensure that he was on the winning side so he could survive even if it meant betraying his friends. He hoped James and Sirius at the very least would be spared as pure-bloods and the last of their lines. Lily’s, Remus’ and Harry’s death would break his heart but he would survive them and survive them with a trusted position at the Dark Lord’s side.

‘Wormtail,’ hissed Voldemort. ‘What news do you bring me? Do you know what happened to Bella, she has not reported in, and I cannot sense her through the Dark Mark?’

‘She was fighting Lily, Padfoot, Moony and Harry and then Harry cast golden light at her, and she was gone,’ Peter said.

‘Harry, Harry Who?’ hissed Voldemort.

Peter tried not to let his glee at telling the Dark Lord something he had no idea of show.

‘Harry, Harry from the future,’ Peter said quickly. ‘When we first introduced himself, he said his name was Tyler but Bella, Bella … well he said he was an omni-speaker meaning he can speak all tongues, animal and human. But he could speak Parseltongue. Bella … well she thought he might be your son and would not dare to attack-‘

‘Lord Voldemort has no need of progeny,’ hissed Voldemort. ‘Lord Voldemort is eternal and needs no legacy.’

‘Yes, my Lord,’ Peter said quickly. ‘But Bella wanted to confirm it so did a parentage reveal on him. It revealed that Lily and James were his parents – his only parents. Lily asked if he was Harry. Harry confirmed it. But it means that Harry was never adopted. Lily and James lied to fool you so you could think he wasn’t the Prophecy Child.’

Voldemort was still, ‘and he was powerful?’

Peter nodded, ‘very. He could block Bella’s crucio curses, maybe a spell invented in the future, I don’t know, and he did something to her. I couldn’t see it was too bright. But she’s gone.’

Voldemort hissed, ‘I want you to lead me to them.’

‘Yes, my Lord,’ Peter said.

Lily couldn’t believe that it had been seven months since they had taken little Violet home. Violet was now a bubbly seven-month-old who babbled and screamed her displeasure and threw toys from her pram and hugged Lily when she was upset.

Meanwhile, Harry at fifteen-months-old was the size of a three-month-old baby. He was able to hold his head up on its own and had said Ma and Da and his mind-speak was getting more complicated every day.

Unfortunately, a week after the events at Diagon Alley they had been attacked by Death Eaters in their home and only just escaped with the babies before Voldemort had turned up. And they had some unexpected help in moving to the Potter manor.

But that too had been breached. That had happened another two times in the next couple of months. Then Severus had come forward as a spy saying that they were being targeted because of the prophecy, which made no sense as it couldn’t possibly pertain to Harry.

But Voldemort thought it did.

By Harry’s first birthday they knew moving every couple of months wasn’t sustainable not with two small infants. But nor could they flee the country not with Harry’s Healer being here. Thus, they asked Dumbledore for help.

Dumbledore came up with the plan for using a Secret Keeper. The original plan had been to use Sirius but that was too obvious. Sirius could be captured and tortured, so they told everyone that Sirius was the Secret Keeper and used Peter instead.

It was now Halloween and Lily had watched the local Muggle kids and their parents’ parade around in fancy dress whilst trick-or-treating. Lily herself was dressed up as Daphne from Scooby Doo and James as a rather dashing Fred. Violet was in red and orange like Velma and Harry was in green and brown like Shaggy. They even had a Scooby Doo plushie.

Currently, Violet was on the floor playing with said plushie with Lily making sounds for the dog much to Violet’s delighted giggles. Harry was sat on James’ lap with his hand on his face whilst James made images out of puffs of smoke to Harry’s design. It was a game they had been playing for a while; Harry would send them an image of something, and they would create it. Harry loved it and they reckoned it must be good for his telepathy. They were all happy.

Then the door crashed open.

They had been found.

Again.

They would escape.

They always did!

They knew that it wouldn’t be for another twenty-five years before Harry’s birth father found him. They knew that they would have that time with Harry and Violet. They would be able to survive Voldemort until then.

James stiffened and handed Harry to James as he rushed out into the hallway. Lily hoped it was just Sirius being an idiot and playing a Halloween prank on them. If that was the case, she would bloody kill the mutt.

‘LILY!’ James shouted.

Lily’s heart sank.

Not Sirius.

‘Take Harry and Vi and go! It’s him! I’ll hold him off! GO! RUN!’ shouted James.

Avada Kedavra,’

Lily sobbed as she heard the thud of James’ body, but she couldn’t think about that now. She needed to get her babies out first. Then she could cry, scream, grieve. But first she needed to save her babies.

They had been wrong.

The Doctor and Rose said they had found Harry twenty-five years in the future. They had assumed he would be with them until then. But the Doctor had never said that Harry would be with them until then.

But she would have to try and survive for her babies.

Lily grabbed Violet from the floor and with a child in each hand ran into the kitchen hoping to get out the backdoor but cursing when she realised it was locked. The keys were in the key holder by the front door. She couldn’t get out.

And her wand was also there.

They were trapped.

The two babies in each hand were screaming.

She ran back into the hallway, but Voldemort was there, so she darted up the stairs to Harry’s bedroom at the top of the landing. She barricaded the three of them in there as best as she could; deposited the children in Harry’s crib and turned around looking for weapons or a means to escape.

None came to her.

She could probably open the window and if she was on her own, she might be able to shimmy down the drainpipe. And even if she did so without breaking her neck, she could not do so with two babies in her arms.

And she was not going to abandon her children.

And there was nothing harder than a picture book which would not do much against Voldemort. As Voldemort tossed aside her flimsy barricade like it was nothing, she could only hope that the Dark Lord would be reasonable.

Hah, what were the chances of that?

‘Harry’s not the child you want,’ Lily said flinging out her arms in front of the children. ‘He’s not born to those have thrice defied you, he’s not biolog-‘

Do not lie to me,’ hissed Voldemort. ‘I have been informed of the young man, the unspeakable that your son will become. Powerful enough to kill Bellatrix without leaving a trace. Powerful enough to counteract Unforgivables. And my spy informed me that the young man had you and only you listed as parents.’

Lily’s heart sunk. The round spirals that Lily and James had always taken to be Harry’s parents in whatever tongue Time Lords spoke weren’t recognised as words or names. Voldemort now believed that the powerful wizard from the future was also his prophesised enemy. He would not suffer Harry to live. Lily’s one hope was that she had met her son and knew he had survived to adulthood … even if he didn’t know her.

Please, don’t do this,’ begged Lily. ‘Not Harry, please not Harry.’

‘Stand aside,’ Voldemort said sharply. ‘Stand aside you foolish girl.’

‘Not Harry, please take me, kill me instead,’ Lily begged.

‘This is my last warning,’ snarled Voldemort.

‘Not Harry! Please … have mercy … have mercy … Not Harry! Not Harry! Please, I’ll do anything,’ Lily begged.

‘Stand aside – stand aside girl,’ hissed Voldemort. ‘Oh, very well.’

As the green light raced towards Lily all Lily could think of, hope, pray was that Harry and Violet would survive. They had to. She had met Harry. They had to survive even if she would never see them grow. They had to su-

Harry screamed as he felt Mummy disappear from him.

Just like Daddy.

They were gone.

He didn’t understand.

He clutched Vi-Vi’s hand feeling her terrified as he was. It did not reassure him one bit as he looked up at the red-eyed man who had scared Mummy and Daddy so much. He had done something to make Harry unable to feel Mummy and Daddy.

They were gone.

He was wrong.

He was disjointed.

Harry cried as the feeling of wrongness intensified.

Avada kedvra,’

The man threw bright green light at Harry like Daddy did to make pretty pictures for Harry and Vi-Vi. But this didn’t feel nice and light and fun. It felt bad and scary and wrong. It felt like the man in front of Harry.

Harry didn’t like it.

Harry didn’t like him.

Then the light hit him sending him flinging back into his cot.

Harry screamed.

It hurt.

It felt bad.

His heart hurt.

His head hurt.

Everything hurt.

Then he felt like he did when the bath was too hot.

But so much worse.

Harry screamed and bright golden light engulfed him.

It was him.

And he was it.

It bled from him and into him.

Harry let go of Vi-Vi’s hands.

He didn’t want to make her too hot too.

He didn’t want to hurt her.

Then it stopped.

He felt strange.

He felt different.

But he felt right.

Beside him Vi-Vi was looking at him confused ‘Ha-Ha-Ha. Ma-Ma-Ma. Da-Da-Da.’

‘Vi-Vi,’ Harry said.

‘Ha-Ha-Ha,’ sobbed Vi-Vi.

Why didn’t she recognise him?

The man was gone.

His bedroom looked like Mummy had been searching for his missing Teddy Bear. There were very large candle lights without a candle alight in the room. Harry didn’t like them; they felt as wrong as everything else did today.

Had he done that?

How?

Harry cried.

He was so tired.

Vi-Vi cried.

And then they came.

Captain Adeline Jansson, Addy to her friends, arrived at the small village of Godric’s Hollow in the middle of the night. There had been a spike of what the scientists at UNIT called Lindo Radiation which given their close workings with the Doctor may have come from him. It meant that there was a regenerating Time Lord in the vicinity.

If it was the Doctor they were to keep back, see what he was up to and evaluate from there. If it was the Master, they were to arrest him as soon as possible. If it was someone else, they were to evaluate given their nature.

Because Time Lords were not to be trifled with.

Addy made her way into the house leaving the rest of her team outside standing guard. A dead man (human according to their scans) was lying at the door with no discernible injuries but had apparently suffered from a blast of some sort of energy. Probably, an alien weapon of some sort, Addy thought.

She made her way upstairs to the first room of the landing where the source of the radiation was. In the room was a dead woman with the same scans as the man downstairs. And in the cot were two babies; one a girl dressed up as Velma and the other smaller and dressed up as Shaggy. Neither of them could be older than a year.

They were both crying.

The boy released a golden cloud from his mouth as he screamed.

Was this the Time Lord?

Addy scanned the two children, and her suspicions were proved correct. The boy was a Time Lord, newly regenerated if the glowing was anything to go by. The girl, on the other hand, was human although did have strange artron energy but that may be due to her close proximity to a regenerating Time Lord either that or she had travelled through time at some point.

She reported her findings to her superior who ordered her to leave before the police got there and take the Time Lord with her. Addy picked up the child who touched her face and fled the house. Just as man arrived at the front door.

‘JAMES! LILY! HARRY! VIOLET!’ the man screamed.

Addy ignored the sound of the grief as the man found his friends dead and their son missing. Her boss wanted this strange alien child so she would give them the strange alien child. After all, it wasn’t like he was a real child.

He was a thing!

Sirius startled awake in the middle of the night hearing a groaning sound from downstairs. It took a minute to place the sound. Until he remembered that strange day in Diagon Alley where he had met his future godson. His box had made the same sound.

He sprinted down the stairs where he found his living room looking like a wind had just blown away. However, on the table was a piece of parchment that had never been there before. Sirius picked it up carefully.

Padfoot,

Go to the Potter’s Home.

Get Violet.

I’m sorry. You have to be strong now for Violet.

Love Harry

Sirius read the parchment several times before he moved leaving the house and apparating to Godric’s Hollow. The second he arrived he knew something was wrong. The upper part of the house was damaged, broken, the walls blown out.

‘JAMES! LILY! HARRY! VIOLET!’ screamed Sirius.

Sirius ran into the house – the door was open.

‘JAMES!’ sobbed Sirius.

James was lying on the floor dead.

Avada Kedavra from the look of it.

Sirius slumped to the floor and would have remained there had he not heard the sound of crying from upstairs.

Harry.

Violet.

Sirius carefully stepped around James and ran upstairs to Harry’s bedroom.

‘Lily,’ whimpered Sirius.

Lily too was dead on the floor in front of the cot. Her arms outstretched like she had been shielding the cot. Inside the cot was his crying baby cousin who was screaming for Lily and James because she was scared and alone.

But Harry was nowhere to be seen.

He was gone.

Get Violet.

Harry’s future self knew that his past self wouldn’t be here.

But where was he.

Sirius cradled the little girl in his arms wrapping her up in Harry’s blanket. It was too cold and exposed in here. And he had to get her away from Lily’s body. She was just a baby she shouldn’t have to see her mother’s body.

Sirius couldn’t help but let out a sob.

James dead.

Lily dead.

Harry gone.

Violet alone.

How were they going to do this?

How was he going to do this?

He didn’t know the first thing about looking after babies!

But he would have to learn.

You have to be strong for Violet.

He would be, he promised.

He would be strong for Violet.

And Harry to when they found him, when he returned.

Harry had said they would see each other again.

He had to believe that.

Sirius heard a loud guttural sound from downstairs. Clutching his cousin, James and Lily’s daughter to him he made his way downstairs. Rubeus Hagrid was staring down at James’ body sobbing large wet tears.

‘Hagrid,’ croaked Sirius. ‘James, Lily, they’re … they’re … they’re dead …’ Sirius broke into a sob.

Hagrid gently patted Sirius.

‘Harry’s gone …’ Sirius said. ‘It’s just Violet who is left. I have to go and speak to Dumbledore.’

Hagrid nodded.

Albus was shocked when Sirius Black walked in holding just one baby. Albus immediately on his guard – he had been the secret keeper and now the Wards had fallen. Only the Secret Keeper could tell Voldemort where the Potters had been.

Albus drew his wand.

‘I swear on my life and magic that I was not the secret keeper for Lily, James, Harry and Violet’s house. So, mote be it,’ Sirius spoke clearly.

‘Then who was?’ asked Albus.

‘Peter Pettigrew,’ Sirius said.

‘You switched?’ murmured Albus.

Sirius nodded, ‘we … I was too obvious … I could have been tortured … we thought it would be safer this way ….’

Albus’ eyes softened, ‘I’m sorry, Sirius, I should have known better.’

‘James and Lily … they’re dead … Harry’s gone …’ Sirius choked out.

Albus passed Sirius a handkerchief, ‘I’m sorry for your loss but may I ask, how did you know something was wrong?’

‘Harry,’ Sirius said. ‘Harry – future Harry – sent me a letter telling me to get Violet.’

Albus raised his eyebrows.

‘I can show you,’ Sirius said.

Sirius pulled a memory from his wand and deposited it in the Pensieve. Albus watched and the more he watched the less he understood. Lily, Remus, Sirius and Peter had met Harry Potter’s future self – a time traveller, a Time Lord. Powerful and strange. He had managed to reverse Bellatrix back to that of a baby and then disappeared into time.

‘Harry told me to get Violet, so I did,’ Sirius said. ‘I just hope he’s okay.’

‘I’m sure we’ll meet him again,’ Albus said.

And then the real work would begin.
