1 – Fresh start

"Listen Lou, I don't think this thing between us will work out. I'm sorry."

If he would have known his sixth year in Hogwarts is going to start with a breakup, Louis probably wouldn't have left his family this quickly at the train station wanting to see his girlfriend again.

He could have just stayed in his mothers arms a bit longer and told his sisters he's going to miss them once more.

Now he sits alone in his train compartment looking out of the window and watching London getting smaller and smaller.

Since Hannah wasn't just his girlfriend but his only real friend too, he already feels lonely and misses his family a bit more than a few minutes ago.

This is going to be a great year, just great.

Drowning in his admittedly dramatic imagination of walking down the halls without the company of a funny and actually nice person, Louis doesn't hear the knock at the glass separating his seat from the rest of the students in the train.

"Hi, can I sit here?" the blonde kid asks.

Louis has already seen him in some of his classes in the last years and he seemed nice enough so Louis nods and tries to smile. He probably fails.

Not noticing his sad mood, the boy continues to talk to him.

"I'm Niall by the way, Hufflepuff. What's your name? Your a Slytherin, right? I barely know you guys after all the years, sorry."

"It's alright, I'm not getting out of our common room very often. And it's Louis by the way."

"Cool!" Niall answered and Louis thought, maybe he could actually come out there more frequently if it means, he could have some conversation with Niall. He doesn't seem like a complicated guy.

Trying to chat a little with his new found company the train ride ends faster than Louis would have thought.

Niall is that kind of person who is friends with everyone which is something Louis admires.

Even back then at primary school Louis hadn’t befriended many kids. He liked to play by himself and when Lottie was born, he wanted to be the best big brother and drew her a picture each day he wouldn't have to do some homework.

Liking his alone time hadn’t changed when he got the letter, telling him, he was a wizard.

Meeting Dumbledore the first time was quite impressive and his stories about Hogwarts couldn’t compare to the actual view on the castle out of the boats on his first day at school.

Louis couldn’t believe this would be his second home for the next seven years.

Entering the Great Hall and sitting down at the Slytherin table, the sixth grader watches the eleven year olds lining up in front of the sorting hat.

Flashbacks of his own sorting ceremony arise and Louis can almost feel the impatience and excitement coming from the new students.

When he stood there waiting to hear his name being called he didn’t really know what to expect the hat to say

About half a minute after putting it on and hearing the word “SLYTHERIN” finally getting announced, he was relieved to see his table clapping because otherwise he would have had no idea where to sit down.

Louis exchanged a short “Hi” with Zayn with whom he silently agreed on some kind of deal through the last years where they would sit next to each other in classes and at some of the meals.

They both were never bothered by the quiet so it always worked out.

After greeting Zayn, Louis waits for the song of the sorting hat which starts the ceremony every year.

Except for one poor girl having to sit there for nearly five minutes until finally hearing a loud "RAVENCLAW", nothing really extraordinary happened and Louis could enjoy his dinner which he did miss through the time with his family.

He’s not going to lie there, not even his mother can beat the cooking of the house elves at Hogwarts.

Feeling stuffed with chicken and mashed potatoes, he says bye to Zayn and shyly waves to Niall at the Hufflepuff table, who is currently talking very animated with the boy next to him while also waving enthusiastically in Louis’ direction.

How a person can have this much energy after such a long day is a question Louis is trying to figure out on his way to the dungeons and he will probably try the whole next school year.

Being the first arriving in his dormitory, he throws himself into his cloudy bed and takes a look at his timetable.

The next morning is going to start with a potions lesson accompanied by the Gryffindors and later a lesson of transfiguration with the Hufflepuffs follows.

Maybe Niall has better skills in McGonagalls class than him and Zayn, Louis hopes because last year has been a bit of a catastrophe with this subject.

A tiny bit of tutoring wouldn't be too bad.

Ok, it would be totally necessary.
