After talking with Lily for a few minutes, James finally decided it was time to head back to his dorm. "Alright, well I'm going to head back to my dorm. Sirius is probably going insane with just Peter around to talk to. I mean he and Pete get along well but after a while of it just being the two of them I think Sirius would get bored." James explained as he stood up from his chair. "Alright James, and don't forget to let me know anytime you need me to cover up any of those bruised Regulus leaves for you." Lily said with a small smile painted across her face. "Sure thing, Thanks for helping me." James said as he started to walk away from Lily. "Well of course, we can't have you going around looking like a whore." Lily said. James laughed a little at that before giving Lily a small salute and walking back to the bookshelf Remus had shown him. Scanning the shelf James quickly spotted a French to English dictionary. James quickly grabbed the book off the shelf and walked out of the library.
James walked down the hallway in a trance. He felt content with having told Lily about him and Regulus, more importantly he was glad he had someone he could go to and talk about Regulus with other than Remus. Suddenly James felt something yank him by his tie that was sloppily tied around his neck. James fell slightly as he was yanked into a nearby broom closet. He heard the door lock behind him. "What happened? Did Sirius see you come in?" James heard Regulus's hushed voice say in the darkness. James quickly cast Lumos so that he could see. That light from his wand lit up Regulus's face. "Well, I tried to play it off like I just went to the pitch to practice a bit but then Sirius spotted a hickey on my neck. Quite a few hickeys actually. In fact Remus even asked if I was shagging a vampire, but anyways Remus got Sirius to stop pestering me about who I was with so at least he doesn't know that I'm with you." James explained. "Well, it's not exactly good but at least he's still dense enough to not know who you're with." Regulus said after a moment.
Regulus spotted the book in James's hand. "What's that?" he asked James with an inquisitive smirk on his face. "Oh, it's nothing, just uhh... homework." James said, hiding the book behind his back as his face turned a light pink color. "Merlin, you're a bad liar. show it to me." Regulus said, reaching around James's back to try and take the book from him. After a moment of struggle Regulus finally got the book out of James's hands and read the title out loud. 'English to French Dictionary' Regulus said with a curious expression on his face. "uhh yeah, after this morning I decided that I wanted to start learning French." James said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "Awe, Jamie, you want to learn French for me." Regulus said mockingly. "Shut up." James said with an embarrassed look on his face. "I can teach you if you want, I'm probably a better teacher than this book." Regulus said with a smirk on his face. "Really, can you teach me?" James asked enthusiastically. "Sure, why not? n'importe quoi pour mon soleil." Regulus said, shrugging his shoulders. "What did you just say?" James asked with a curious look on his face, opening the dictionary to try and translate. Regulus grabbed the book from James's hands and closed it whispering into James's ear, "Anything for my sunshine."
-Later that night, in the great hall-
Regulus looked across the great hall at James. James was talking with Sirius, probably about their next prank. Suddenly James felt Regulus's eyes on him and turned to look back at him. James's eyes softened and a gentle smile graced his face. James looked down and grabbed a pen out of his robes showing it to Regulus. Instantly Regulus knew what this meant. A week prior Regulus had enchanted a piece of paper to pass notes between their two pieces of parchment so that they could talk while Sirius was around. Regulus looked down at the parchment and grabbed a pen from his robes. "Are you alright, love?" James scribbled out in his messy handwriting. "Ya, I'm fine. Why do you ask?" Regulus responded. Regulus was rarely ever actually 'fine' when he said he was but he didn't like people asking him what was wrong and trying to fix his problems. He thought that it was arrogant to think that you could somehow find a solution to someone else's problem just by knowing the basic information. "You've hardly touched your food, I thought maybe something was bothering you." James wrote back.
Regulus looked at his untouched plate. "Please eat something, even if you're not hungry. We both know how hangry you get when you don't eat dinner." James wrote. Regulus took a small bite of mashed potatoes from his plate and looked at James. Then he scrawled on the paper, "Happy now?" James looked down at the paper, and then back up at Regulus with a look of concern on his face. As much as Regulus didn't feel like eating, he also didn't like seeing James worried. So he took another bite before grabbing a few biscuits off the table and placing them in his pocket to save for later. James gave Regulus a dorky smile and a thumbs up. Regulus rolled his eyes in response with a small smirk on his face.
-later that evening, in Regulus's dorm room-
Regulus was laying on James's chest while James played with his hair. Regulus felt at home in James's arms, it was almost as if any problems Regulus had melted away as soon as James was near him. The room was quiet, the pair could only hear each other's breath and mist the silence. The room was filled with cool September air causing Regulus to shiver a bit. Regulus was always cold. "Are you cold, love?" James asked Regulus as he fixed his glasses slightly. "A little bit." Regulus responded, propping his chin up so that he could look James in the eyes. "Well then, here." James said as he pushed himself up with his hands. Regulus moved over a little to allow James to sit up fully. James swiftly took off his Gryffindor sweater and handed it to Regulus. Regulus took the sweater from James and put it on. James smiled sweetly as he adjusted his glasses. "Why are you smiling?" Regulus asked, giving James a confused look. James shrugged his shoulders and said simply, "No reason. I just really like seeing you in red." Regulus rolled his eyes and fixed the sweater a bit. "Shut up, Jamie." Regulus said. "Oh do you not want the sweater?" James asked, moving a little closer to James. "No, I want it!" Regulus said without really taking time to think. "Ya, that's what I thought." James said, gently placing his hand on Regulus's cheek. Regulus smiled a little bit and pulled James towards him by his tie, pressing their lips together.
