A Strained Relationship
"I solemnly swear I am up to no good."
― Harry Potter
(Y/n)'s P.O.V.
"The practice indoor battle with team A and D will begin. Start!" His voice boomed dramatically like a quidditch commentator.
I was starting to get very excited the moment Midoriya and Uraraka entered the building. They entered through one of the building's windows. I'm sure it was part of their strategy to not get caught easily and I don't want to be mean or judgemental, but there's a door, isn't there? Why didn't you guys just use it instead of hassling yourselves?
Well, I'll admit, it does however look cooler than entering through the door like a normal human being. No offense to All Might who insists he enters a room like a normal human being. The tension of the fight grew quicker than everyone expected despite there being no actual fight yet.
"You all have to use your head too." All Might poured out some useful tips.
I could tell as I watched the screen that both Uraraka and Midoriya were talking in hushed voices to avoid getting caught by the villain team but the thing was that I couldn't hear what they were actually saying. And sadly I couldn't even eavesdrop on what they were saying because the spell that I used before only works when you can see that person in the distance.
As I watched the hero team wander around the maze of halls, I could tell that Uraraka was more nervous than Midoriya. Midoriya, who practically walked with confidence as he clenched his fist in concentration and held determined eyes, while Uraraka on the other hand looked like a puppy who was following it's master mindlessly. I really don't mean to be rude or offensive to Uraraka, but based on my observations that is what I see.
I hope she realizes that one day. Not long after the two kept walking, suddenly a blond mutt jumped in front of them and shot a blast at them, surprising them and everyone in the monitoring room. I bet Bakuhoe didn’t even make a footstep sound if they were that surprised. Luckily before Bakugo could harm the hero team.
Midoriya moved fast and dodged the blast, bringing Uraraka down with him. But that was the last thing that we could see before the darn smoke covered up the camera. Causing groans and sighs of disappointment to fill the air. When the smoke cleared and we could see clearly what was going on, Midoriya was standing up with his mask half burnt from the blast.
“A surprise attack?!” Someone yelled out in excitement.
“That’s not fair! How unmanly of him!” Kirishima, who stood next to me, bumped his fist into his palm.
“That is a strategy too. They are in the middle of a battle.” Explain All Might to an offended Kirishima.
“Midoriya-kun, you avoided it so well!” Mina who was on my other side, yelled out in excitement as she pumped both of her fists in the air.
“He’s going for it!” Kaminari-kun yelled, anxiousness clear in his voice.
Not giving the heroes any time to rest, Bakugo immediately ran towards Midoriya. We were all anxious about the fight before because it was clear to see who would win. Despite Midoriya having a powerful quirk, it didn't matter because he couldn't control it. If he did then that'd be a different situation and the winner of the battle would be unsure. I stayed silent and watched the fight continue, taking a few mental notes. As Bakugo was about to blow up the green haired boy with a right-armed swing, Midoriya-kun quickly intercepted it and managed to throw Bakugo flat on the ground.
Shocked gasps filled the air as the tension between the battle of team A and D grew even further. With the wits and quick thinking that Midoriya displayed, maybe it was safe to say that maybe the hero team could win despite their many disadvantages. And when I mean team A and D, I actually mean Bakugo and Midoriya. It's clear to everyone that Bakugo is fighting Midoriya-kun with a huge grudge. For the record, fighting with a grudge usually won't end well for the victim because their opponent fights with pure rage and adrenaline. Goodluck Midoriya, you're gonna need it.
Time skip
"For the indoor battle training. The hero team… Wins!" All Might yelled into his mic, announcing the winner of the battle.
In the end the villain team had lost the battle leaving the heroes with nothing but victory and satisfaction. But of course like every, it was achieved through a sacrifice, specifically Midoriya's whole arm. While Midoriya's right arm was beaten and battered with bruises, it could not compare to his left one, it was in a deep shade of purple and his bones were practically shattered from the power that flowed through it.
He was a complete mess. Uraraka who slid down while hugging the fake bomb was currently on the floor, trying to hold back her puke by covering her mouth with both of her hands. And Iida being a responsible classmate, helped the poor girl by tapping her back, supporting her through her tough times. The things they went through and the aftermath that they're experiencing right now, just to win makes me shudder a bit in fear.
'Am I going to have to go through those?' I thought a bit nervously. Of course I knew what I was getting myself into when I entered U.A., becoming a hero is not always rainbows and butterflies. We have to face the reality of becoming a hero, you must fight and sacrifice yourself for random muggles, and if you don't win the fight, then your hated upon them, you become casted away like an old toy that no one wants anymore because it doesn't matter to muggles how much you've fought and sacrificed for them, as long as you've produced good results, it doesn't fucking matter.
It's complete and utter bullshit. Just like what mother says, they are selfish and no good creatures, but behind every selfish creature is a scared animal who'll do whatever it takes to survive and I can't blame them for wanting to live another day, it's only natural after all, it's basically burned into every living thing's instincts. But just as I believe muggles are terrible, I also believe that they can change. I also have a saying that fits muggles… Monsters are made, not born. Perhaps that's why the muggles are terrible. But then again, I can also see them the same as a normal wizard or witch.
I'm getting off topic again... Going back to reality, everyone in the monitoring room was silent for a bit after All Might announced the winners. But then someone decided to break the thick tension in the room.
"What just happened?" Someone questioned nervously. "The losers have no damage and the winners can't move…" They finished
"They lost the battle, but won the war, I guess." A man with a bird head known as Tokoyami spoke out as he stood next to Todo-kun.
"It's only training. Kero~" Asui-san croaked out.
All Might-sensei then left the room, to go check out and monitor the injured students. He instructed us to say put and behave when he left, to which of course we did not follow. The moment he shut the door and left, we listened closely as his footsteps began to drift further away until we were left with nothing but silence, we immediately dispersed from our original positions and began to go our separate ways to our own groups of friends and converse with them.
"Man, that Bakugo is so scary!" Denki pouted
"If looks could kill, you'd probably be dead." I joked at him to which he replied with an even larger pout.
We continued our conversations until someone said that All Might-sensei was coming back. We heard the loud pitter patters of his footsteps followed by the other footsteps of students behind him grow larger by the second. So we quickly went back to our original places and quieted down as we pretended to do what All Might-sensei asked of us as we awaited his arrival. When he stepped into the monitoring room, he returned with Uraraka, Bakugo, and Iida and at their arrival.
We were all directed towards the large screen in front of us and the lights in the room were all turned on so suddenly in a heartbeat. Making our eyes squint in pain from not being used to it because it was placed under darkness for so long. All Might did something or more like tapped on some weird object to make the screen change. The screen now displayed the winning and losing team.
The world's number 1 hero stood in front of us with a large smile plastered on his face. Standing next to him were 3 of the uninjured players. Uraraka who looked sick, Bakugo who was looking down in anger as he gritted his teeth, and the last person, Iida, he had a look of disappointment and despair displayed on his face. Posing in a heroic stance, he spoke and made his voice boom in the room dramatically.
"Even though he lost, the best player out of them all was young Iida!" He pointed out in a positive manner
"Really?!" Iida's eyes almost popped out from how shocked he was at this.
"Not Ochako or Midoriya, who won?" Tsuyu questioned All Might almost immediately after he spoke.
"Hmm… I wonder why?" All Might did a thinking pose. "Does anyone know?"
Raising her hand, she spoke out confidently, "Yes, All Might-sensei. It's because Iida adapted most to the setting. Bakugo's actions were completely based on personal grudge. And as you mentioned earlier, the large-scale attack was foolish. And as for Midoriya-kun, his injuries prove that his plan was nothing but reckless. As for Uraraka, she lacked alertness and her last move was overly violent. If that weapon was real, it would've been too dangerous. Iida was prepared for the enemy and a fight over the weapon, which is why he was late to respond." Because of what Yaoyozorou was saying Iida blushed so much and smiled from ear to ear as he put his hand on his chest. "The hero team won, only because they took the easy way out because it's just training." She finally finished.
'I'm sorry Iida if I seem extremely rude, but I have to disagree with Yaoyozorou on that one. For one, you were still late to respond, there's no excuse for that. Even if you didn't expect to be put in that situation, it's as the saying goes, expect the unexpected. It wouldn't have mattered that you had a slow response since what's important is that you produce results.' I sighed internally.
"Oh!" Mina whispered in my ear in a somewhat singsong tone, "I can see a ship in the making." I eyed me playfully.
Eyeing her back with the same amount of playfulness, I quickly caught on with what she's saying, "Wanna bet on who confesses first?"
"Of course! I bet ¥100 on Momo!" She playfully taunted me.
"¥200 on Iida." I playfully taunted her even more.
"I'm with Mina in this one, (Y/n)-chan." Kaminari-kun suddenly popped in and draped his arm across my shoulder.
"No way! That's so not manly to let the girl confess! I bet on Iida!" Kirishima joined in.
"Well if everyone's betting, I bet on Yaoyozorou. Iida's too uptight, I doubt that he'll confess. Probably think that it'd be inappropriate to be dating while he's still in school!" Sero joined in.
"No way, Kirishima! A girl can confess to a guy. It's womanly in fact!" Mina countered Kirishima's statement from before.
"How long were you guys listening in on our conversation?" I question a bit nervously.
"Sorry," Denki rubbed the back of his head from embarrassment at his actions, "Long enough to know about your bet with Yaoyozorou and Iida. But…" He dragged the word 'but', "Yaoyozorou is a really pretty girl, if they don't end up getting together, I just might shoot my shot." He pointed finger guns at us.
"Go ahead, no one's holding you back.” I chuckled
"Well… Iida does seem too serious at times…" All Might said to the screen, cutting our conversation short, "but you are correct!" He gave Yaoyozorou a thumbs up for her answer.
We continued to converse silently with each other secretly as All Might began to talk about uninteresting and unnecessary things.
"Okay, now let's move on to start round 2." The large man who was similar to a giant in terms of size spoke, "Really think about the feedback and keep training."
"Yes!" Our whole class yelled back at him.
The next battles proceeded as normal. Since this battle round basically destroyed the building we were supposed to train in, we had to move to another building called, Practice Building B.
"For round 2, team B is the hero and team I is the villains." All Might announced through the microphone which was definitely not necessary for his voice was already so loud that it hurt my eardrums.
"Who's the invisible girl again, Mina? Sorry, I forgot."Elbowing her slightly to get her attention.
"Hagakure Toru, oh and the boy who's teamed up with her is Ojiro Mashirao. If you wanted to know." she replied kindly. "Oh! I got an idea! What if we make them a ship!" She shook my right arm really hard making me a bit uncomfortable, but I just sucked it up.
"You're right, perhaps they would look good if we could actually see Hagakure's face. But what do I know? They might already be dating." I grinned
The girl squealed in excitement and quickly pulled Kirishima-kun next to her, "Kirishima! Don't you think it'd be so manly to ship Hagakure and Ojiro together! I mean there must be some connection there!"
"I don't see it, but yeah, sure?!" He replied in a confused tone as he pumped his clenched fist in a very manly way.
Laughing as I rubbed the bridge of my nose, "This is too much shipping in one day."
"C'mon, (N/n)-chan! It's still not enough! Must ship more people!" She stated determinedly.
"Whatever floats your boat." I smiled calmly at her.
"The indoor battle training round 2 starts now!" All Might yelled, making both me and Mina become startled.
"He really needs to lower his voice. That made me startle so bad." I placed a hand over my heart as though it would at least help or comfort my heart to slow down it's rapid beating.
"Same. But he's always been that way so I doubt he'll change." She giggled as she leaned against me.
A horn blaring was heard throughout the whole place, and the timer set for 15 minutes started to count down. Honestly, if someone were to ask my opinion on who would win this round, I'd say I'd be obvious already. I'm not trying to be harsh or anything but based on who is more powerful. I can say that the winners were already decided from the start.
A man with weird arms and a blue mask over his face stepped in the building first through the main door, leaving Todo-kun to follow behind his lead. 'At least they're not trying to hassle themselves unlike Midoriya and Uraraka.' I couldn't help but laugh in my mind. As I was about to continue peacefully with my train of thoughts, it was quickly cut off by my sudden interest in the fight.
Shoji Mezo, is the name of the boy with weird arms and a blue mask over his face if I remember correctly. He extended his arms to reveal what looked similar to bat wings but made of human flesh. But what really perked up my interest was that he had different body parts growing out of his arms. 'Perhaps he can transfer his body parts to his hands?' I questioned myself, trying to guess what exactly his quirk was.
Todoroki walked towards Shoji and stood for a moment next to him. What amazed me again was that Shoji's arm grew and extended to Todo-kun. In the beginning the arm that was outstretched towards Todoroki was originally an ear, until it suddenly morphed into a mouth. Now multiple mouths, ears, and hands were connected to his 6 arms. It amazed me, 'What a very peculiar quirk!' I thought in admiration.
Todoroki-kun nodded at Shoji and motioned to him outside. 'Is telling Shoji-kun to get out? Why would he want him out when he could very much help him?' I pondered. Shoji tried not to show it, but if you looked closely into his eyes, he was clearly disappointed at Todo-kun's request for him to get out, but still reluctantly followed through with his request.
Todoroki continued to stride forward with confident yet slow steps and as he raised right hand, suddenly an icy blue cold mist gathered around it. He went and stood closer to the wall in the already narrow hallway and with his right palm he placed it on the wall. Ice began to form from his fingertips at a slow pace at first.
"Amazing…" I whispered out loud without subconsciously knowing it.
"I agree, it's a really powerful quirk." The boy with a bird head spoke next to me.
Eyeing him for a second from the corner of my eyes, I gave him a nod in response as to not be rude. Reverting my eyes back to the wicked scene that's being displayed on the screen, I immediately was shocked with the event that's unfolding. The ice that was originally growing at a slow pace from beneath Todoroki's palm soon began to rapidly grow, but that wasn't the only place ice was coming out of, no, the floor beneath his right foot soon began to have ice forming under it rapidly at an uncontrollable rate.
Not a moment later when Shoji-kun stepped both of his feet out of the practice building, Todoroki Shoto fully encased the building with ice. Along with the building encased with ice, the pretend villains and the fake bomb too, were trapped in an unforgiving frostbite. Not even leaving a single place overlooked.
Not even giving the pretend villains a chance to fight back or essentially get out of the room yet. In just one move he ended the whole battle. You could tell easily that the pretend villains were shook to their core, not only from the frostbite, but in fear too. Not only were the villains affected by Todoroki's ice, us too.
The monitoring room was also almost frozen, although no ice had touched the room itself, but the coldness however managed to seep inside. All of us in the monitoring room shivered from the unforgiving coldness. Although I did expect this to be the outcome of the battle, I did not however anticipate that Todo-kun would let out this large of a scale. Todo-kun menacingly stocked closer and closer to where the fake bomb was hidden in.
He strided in the room with his whole left side creepily covered in ice, including his face. His left eye glowed a bright shade of red, leaving everyone becoming quiet as the tension in the battle finally reached its peak. Ojiro took a fighting stance in an attempt to atleast try and threaten Todoroki from taking the fake bomb, but in the end, his attempts deemed futile.
He could not do anything anymore and I felt pity on him for that. But not as much as how I felt pity for his partner for this training. Hagakure, the invisible girl, was completely naked and barefoot. You could make out where she was standing because of the foot marks that were imprinted on the ice.
'Poor Hagakure, I bet she's freezing her ass out there. She's literally wearing nothing.' I frowned at this and looked at her from the screen in pity. Everyone in the monitoring room, except for me and Bakugo, huddled closer to All Might for body heat. They wrapped their arms around themselves to try and provide additional warmth to themselves. The shivers from their bodies and chattering of their teeth weren't left unnoticed. Bakugo, who was probably warming himself up using his own quirk, stood stiff away from the huddled crowd.
I, on the other hand, managed to sneak out from Mina's and the others', very watchful eyes. I stood in the farthest corner of the room, away from everyone's eyes. I let out a breath and watched in amusement as the breath I let out immediately turned into steam. Holding out both of my palms in front of my chest, I then began to start whispering the incantation to the bluebell flame charm.
Suddenly a small bright blue light, in the form of a flame sprung to life from out of thin air. It wasn't as hot as a normal fire, it was warm enough to touch, but still hot enough that it could singe your clothes and therefore, it's deemed dangerous. That's why I was standing far from everyone else. I warmed myself using it and being careful not to put myself too close to it that it could still potentially harm me.
"He didn't harm his partner or the weapon, but weakened the enemy…" All Might spoke in a shaky voice.
"He's i-invincible!" Kirishima stuttered in his comment.
Thinking to myself, 'Well played Todo-kun, ending the game in one move and not giving your enemies a chance to fight back is very clever, I'll admit that's very cunning too. Not to mention that you only used your ice side for that. Using only half of your power to win won't work forever, you'll realize this of course eventually, but until then, I'll take my advantage.
Congrats Todoroki Shoto, you have my full attention now. I've said it before, your power though simple is actually very powerful. I've officially decided then, I'll befriend you, whether you find me annoying or not, I'll do my best to achieve my goal in befriending you, besides I find you really interesting as a muggle, the complete opposite of what my mother told me to expect of humans. You are a dangerous rival and I can't wait to actually have a battle with you.'
Todoroki-kun touch the fake bomb with his left hand, officially ending their short battle. Not long after touching the fake bomb, hot steam emitted from his palm, causing all of the ice around the building to melt and the monitoring room return back to it's original temperature. Quickly, I extinguished the small and blue fire in my hands and headed back to the crowd.
“Awesome!” Denki nudged my shoulder and smirked at me to which I rolled my eyes, making him laugh so hard that Iida reprimanded him.
“Man, what a quirk!” A man in a yellow bodysuit said in amazement as he clenched both of his fist in his stomach
“No wonder he was a recommended student. Rabbit~” Tsuyu croaked out
“Amazing.” I spoke in disbelief next to Mina.
“Isn’t it! Damn, I wished I had Todoroki’s quirk! You really hit the jackpot, girl!” She playfully smirked beside me.
“Mina, you really are something.” I playfully rolled my eyes at her.
“He really is a good looking guy too! Seriously, I wish I was you!” I shook my head and giggled at her.
“But you're not. You're you and I’m me. We are 2 completely different persons with our own unique personality. You don’t need to be me.” I smiled gently at her, making her blush.
“(N/n)! Don’t say stuff like those! Look at what you did! You’re making me blush!” She playfully slapped my arm continuously
Turning around to shield myself from her playfully slaps, “Aw! Don’t be like that Mina! You look cute when you blush!”
"Argh! Stop it!" She playfully pinched me this time and dragged Sero-kun into this mess, "Sero! Tell this, unofficial, but official in our eyes, girlfriend of Todoroki to shut up!"
"Woah! Your Todoroki's unofficial girlfriend?! Damn! Didn't know you were into those types of guys!" Sero laughed and played along
“C’mon I barely know the guy! And what type of guys are you talking about? Mysterious and strong? Ha! You're kidding me right?!” I was getting tired of playing along with their antics.
“Don’t be like that (N/n). You know you like being teased!” She yelled a bit louder this time, making my eyes widen in shock and pangs of fear and worry hit me hard.
“Mina! Don’t be too loud! Others might hear!” I whisper-yell at her and cover her mouth with my hand to muffle her voice, resulting in my hands being coated in her saliva.
“Fine, fine. Have it your way, (L/n).” He gave a reply for Mina seeing as she is currently unable to talk.
Pulling my hand off of her mouth, she stuck her tongue at me and crossed both of her arms in front of her chest, “That wasn’t exactly nice and proper for a hero in training, for your information!”
Knowing she didn’t mean it, I decided to play along and give her a very sarcastic reply, “Neither was teasing me and speaking loud enough for the whole class to hear, but here we are.”
“Okay, let’s all meet back and assess round 2, then start round 3.” All Might announced in his annoyingly booming voice cutting off our growing conversation.
We moved onto another building for some reason. It was called Practice Building C, and I wondered how U.A. could afford so many buildings. In fact it was a wonder how they were able to afford so much of their equipment here. I could tell it was all the highest quality available to the market, despite knowing so little of anything related to technology in general.
‘Well at least they're putting our tuition and the money of the donors to the school in good use.’ I smiled at the thought. ‘And mother said that muggle schools are corrupt, looks like they proved you wrong, mum. No offense.’ I looked around my surroundings in awe as I tuned out the conversations going on between the Bakugosquad.
The next people to battle went by fast. And next thing I knew almost everyone was done, the only person left to participate was me. And to say that I was thrilled was an understatement, I couldn’t wait until I could battle someone. This was my moment to shine and prove to everyone that I was someone in the crowd. That I was someone not to mess with. The 2 people that I would be battling was Yaoyo- Sorry her name is a bit long and rolls off the tongue in an uncomfortable way that I forgot it. No offense. The other one was the infamous pervert in our class.
We had only been attending U.A. for a few days now, but he had managed to disgust everyone in here. He was a huge pervert that I wanted to use transfiguration on him and turn him into a flubber worm, then proceed to stuff him into a jar with an unbreakable charm cast upon it, after that, I would throw it into the ocean and leave him to die. Seriously I hated this pervert more than the person that’s my biggest rival.
He’s really that bad! I felt somewhat bad for his partner, they were playing the villains and it would have been an easy win for them had he not used his quirk to stick himself onto the poor girl’s breast. All Might had reprimanded him for his actions, but it went in and out of his ears. He didn’t listen and no matter how hard the girl tried to get him off of her, it was no use. Resulting in their destined failure and loss.
