Unexpected inheritance
As soon as Harry steped through the veil with death he felt a shiver run down his spine , he closed his eyes tightly untill he felt solid earth under his feet again
"Open your eyes love , we're here"
Still holding deaths hand harry blinked his eyes open.
"Are we in Gringots?" Harry asked , looking around the stone interior.
"Yes I thought we better start here , get you some identification and a blood test"
"Like for a diseaes?" Harry was shocked and apprehensive, did he have a blood disease ? Did he have a family history of blood disease, shit how was he supposed to know all his family was dead.
Death chuckled, a rich sound , that made harry blush.
"No , darling like for lineage".
They had reached the upper floors of the bank and moved to the counter.
"May I request an audience with Pier?" The statement was poosed as a polite question but it was anything but.
Harry was astonished with the way death's whole demeanor had changed from the flirty and charming man he had transformed to someone who was intimidating and feared.
"You may , but he might not be available, you wizards and your entitlement, tell you what....." the goblin looked up mid rant and froze the rest of his statement stuck in his throat.
"Master Mortem" the goblin squeaked " please forgive me I didn't know it was you"
"Clearly " death looked down unimpressed and harry couldn't keep in the laugh that had been building inside his throat for the past five minutes.
Death looked back at harry for a moment still holding his hand in his larger ones , eyes fond and a small smie on his lips.
He turned back to the goblin " you made my harry laugh so you're forgiven" the goblin breathed a sigh of relief , and death narrowed his eyes "for now , If you can inform pier of my presence and that I have a guest who requires a blood test that would be great"
"Off course ,off course Master right this instance " the goblin hurried down from his podium and disappeared behind some doors.
"Mortem? Really?"
"Well I can't go around being called death now can I little master"
"I didn't realise you'd be around enough to be called anything "
"Oh darling you're the most exciting thing to have happened to me since the dawn of time I'll be around " death had moved closer to Harry , but before he could say anything else their was shift in his demnor and he straightened him self "come along darling the goblin king is here"
Just as he said the big golden doors in the back opened and an even more ancient looking goblin if that was possible stepped through, hurriedly coming there way.
"Master Mortem it's a pleasure to have you with us , what can we do for you" The Goblin king Luther said hurriedly.
"Luther,my darling here requires a blood test you see , he had been away, parents tragically dead at 17 he had no idea about who he was but you know I'm merciful to those who don't run away from me , and dear Harry ". Death practically purred looking at him before continuing" well he came to me as on old friend so how could I not help"
"Yes yes master you're very merciful"
"Death often is" Harry murmured, Mortem looked at him eyes full of an emotion harry couldn't explain but it made him blush and look away "come on let's get it over with"
The Goblin King nodded vigorously, his demeanor a mix of deference and urgency.
"Of course, Master Mortem. We shall attend to it immediately. Follow me, please,"
he said with a bow, gesturing for Harry and Death to follow him through the imposing golden doors into a private chamber.
Inside, the room was lined with ancient texts and illuminated by flickering torchlight. A stout goblin assistant bustled forward, carrying a tray with various vials and instruments.
"Please, if you would allow me," the assistant said, indicating for Harry to extend his arm.
Harry hesitated for a moment, glancing at Death for reassurance, who gave him a comforting nod. With a deep breath, Harry extended his arm, and the goblin assistant expertly drew a small sample of blood.
"While we conduct the test, Master Mortem, would you care for refreshments?" the Goblin King inquired, eager to attend to every detail for his esteemed guest.
Death inclined his head graciously. "That would be appreciated, thank you."
As they waited, Harry couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the surreal turn of events. Just hours ago, he had been facing the veil, uncertain of what awaited beyond. Now, he was in the heart of Gringotts Bank, undergoing a blood test under the watchful eye of Death himself.
"Is this... normal?" Harry asked in a low voice, glancing at Death nervously. "I mean, should I be worried?"
Death chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "No need for concern, Harry. This is standard procedure for us to determine your lineage, and we need one so we can forge you a new identity."
"I want you to remember Harry blood doesn't lie , what this test reveals would be the truth in all the universes , even the one you just stepped through from."
"Okay that's not cryptic at all"
After what seemed like an eternity of tense waiting, the goblin assistant returned with a small parchment scroll.
"Master Mortem, we have the results," he announced respectfully, handing the scroll to Death.
Death scanned the parchment briefly before nodding , it looked like he was trying not to laugh. "Excellent , now darling I want you to know this doesn't change how I feel about you"
He handed the parchment to harry , who looked down and promptly lost all the colour in his face.
"I'm a fucking Malfoy?"
