Tell Me No Lies
Summary
In which Lily Evans best friend is hopelessly in love with Remus Lupin, but is utterly convinced there is no universe where he would like her back.

Lily's heart swelled with warmth as she finally spotted you, seated comfortably in a carriage on the Hogwarts Express. The sight of you, with your nose buried in a book and clad in a soft red sweater, was a welcome balm after a long summer apart. She had missed you dearly, along with Mary and Marlene, but you held a special place in her heart. You instantly spotted Lily, furiously waving towards her.

Quietly approaching, Lily couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt for interrupting your solitude. She knew how much you cherished your reading time, likely engrossed in a botanical book or discovering new plants during the break.

As Marlene bolted towards you with laughter bubbling over, the other passengers' heads turned, curiosity piqued by her exuberance. Your gentle smile upon seeing Marlene confirmed Lily's guess—it was indeed a botanical book that had captured your attention.

"Hey Marlene!" you greeted warmly, your voice carrying a hint of amusement. You were excited to see your friends again, as this summer had felt like an especially long one. Mary followed closely behind, dragging Lily along, who wore an apologetic smile that quickly morphed into a grin.

"Do you mind if we join you?" Lily asked politely, knowing well your fondness for solitary moments.

"Of course not! I've missed you guys all summer," you replied eagerly, scooting over to make space for Lily next to you.

"So, what's everyone been up to?" Mary inquired, her elbows resting on her knees in anticipation. She had something on her mind, evident in the way she fidgeted.

Marlene wasted no time, leaning in with a mischievous grin. "Oh, you wouldn't believe the summer I had! This guy was an absolute gentleman, and the... well, you know," she teased, making exaggerated gestures that had Lily groaning and covering her face in embarrassment. Mary joined in Marlene's laughter, fully expecting Lily's reaction.

"But seriously, Lily, it was amazing," Marlene insisted, shaking Lily's shoulders playfully.

"Alright, alright," Lily relented with a laugh. "I spent my summer on a trip with my parents, exploring forests and spotting wild animals. It was incredible," she shared, glancing over at you to ensure you were listening.

"Oh, Maya, I almost forgot to ask—how's your crush on Remus going?" Mary interjected, shifting the topic smoothly.

Your cheeks flushed instantly, betraying your attempt to remain composed. "We've talked about this," you replied softly. "I'm trying to move on. Besides, we hardly have any classes together."

The conversation flowed effortlessly from there, anecdotes and jokes weaving through the air as the train sped towards Hogwarts. For you, being surrounded by friends, and sharing laughter and stories, was a testament to the enduring bond you all had shared since childhood.

As the landscape blurred past the windows and the familiar sights of Hogwarts drew nearer, You couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude for moments like these. Amidst the chaos and challenges of magical education, these friendships were your anchor—a source of joy and comfort that made Hogwarts truly feel like home.

The Hogwarts Express chugged steadily towards its destination, and as the train finally pulled into Hogsmeade Station, excitement buzzed through the air among the students. For you and your friends, it meant reuniting with the rest of your tight-knit group—Sirius, Remus, James, and Peter—who you hadn't seen since the end of the previous term.

Stepping off the train, your heart raced with anticipation. The familiar sights and sounds of the station enveloped you, but your focus was on spotting the rest of your group amidst the sea of students.

"Lily, there they are!" you exclaimed, spotting the unmistakable mop of black hair that belonged to Sirius, who was waving enthusiastically from a distance. Your heart fluttered as you spotted Remus standing beside him, a small smile playing on his lips as he scanned the crowd. James was animatedly recounting something, his expressive hands gesturing wildly, while Peter nodded along eagerly.

As they approached, James couldn't contain his excitement, breaking into a run to meet Lily. "Lily!" he called out, his voice ringing with joy. You, Marlene, and Mary followed closely behind, your laughter echoing through the station.

Sirius enveloped Marlene in a bear hug as soon as she reached him, swinging her around playfully. "Missed you, McKinnon," he teased, setting her down with a grin.

Remus greeted you warmly, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he pulled you into a brief hug. "Good to see you, Maya," he murmured, his voice warm and comforting. The sight and feel of him after a long summer apart sent a wave of warmth through you, though you couldn’t help but feel a tinge of nervousness.

Sirius ruffled Mary's hair affectionately, earning a playful swat from her. "You're as annoying as ever, Black," she teased, but her smile betrayed her fondness.

Peter, ever the loyal friend, greeted everyone with a shy smile and a sincere, "It's great to see you all again."

Once the initial excitement settled, you all gathered your belongings and made your way to the carriages that would take you to Hogwarts. Conversation flowed easily among you, filled with catching up on summer adventures, sharing jokes, and making plans for the new school year.

As you approached the castle, the majestic sight of Hogwarts loomed before you, its turrets reaching towards the darkening sky. The Great Hall awaited, its enchanted ceiling reflecting the starry night above. For you and your friends, this moment marked the beginning of another magical year at Hogwarts—a place where friendships were forged in the fires of adventure, and where every corner held the promise of mystery and wonder.

Entering the Great Hall, you took your seats at the Gryffindor table, surrounded by the familiar buzz of students and the welcoming warmth of the room. You glanced around at your friends, your heart swelling with gratitude for the bonds you all shared. Amidst the flickering candlelight and the anticipation of the Sorting Ceremony, you knew that Hogwarts was more than just a school—it was all your home, where you belonged, united in friendship and ready to face whatever challenges the coming year would bring.
