The beggining
Death… Not exactly what I expected to happen.
I was finally fulfilling my dream and the rocket just had to have blown up. I suppose life is just mocking me at this point.
Now, my main question is why am I alive. And why do I hear crying?
Or is that crying me. I open my eyes and see a woman with red hair looking down on me.
“Hello Harry,” she whispers to me. My name isn’t Harry though. And I’m not even a boy. I try to speak but all that comes out is a louder cry.
Some people burst into the room. I recognize them but I’m not sure from where.
“Is Lily alright?!?” One with really messy hair yells out before seeing me and the fear on his face turns to admiration, “Hey buddy, I’m your dad! Padfoot come look at him!!”
Wait padfoot?!? From the Harry Potter series? Did I get reborn or something like in the fanfics? Well, I suppose it could be worse. Could be Pokémon or something, never was a fan of that.
It’s a bit sad that my “new” parents are going to die but I think this might be fun.
Padfoot comes up to me and starts cooing slightly before turning to James and saying, “He looks just like you! He’s adorable!”
The others all come and say hi but as my new body was just a baby I fell asleep pretty quickly. When I woke back up I was in a crib with 4 plushies next to me. A deer, a dog, a wolf, and a rat. I tried my best to throw the rat out of the crib before going back to sleep. I have plans for this life and I’m not going to waste my time on being around him.
It was a fun first few months, I got to spend a lot of time with Padfoot and Moony. Though, wherever Pettigrew tried to hold me I made sure to cry. That made sure he was kept away from me as before that I had made sure to rarely cry unless I truly needed something.
One thing I quickly learned was that being a baby is not fun. I couldn’t speak and I had almost no muscle so I couldn’t even sit up.
Once I was around 1, I started to practice a little bit of magic. I had used accidental magic every once in a while but I wanted to be and to do it on purpose. At first I just tried to bring items to me but I quickly learned that it didn’t work well after I got hit in the face with a book.
For now I just practiced walking and more physical things as before I can learn magic, I want to be able to control it.
Though, before I was able to find a time to speak, the night came. The night that Harry’s parents died. While I knew that they would die from the beginning, it still hurt to know that the people that loved me in this life were going to die.
“Momma…” I said to Lily. The first word that she had heard me say. I started crying as well, I didn’t really want them to die.
“Hey sweetie, what’s the matter? Everything is okay.” Lily says. Her eyes show a worry that she was trying to hide to keep me calm.
“Is Harry okay?!?” James yelled as he ran in. He was always pretty loud but he still cared a lot about me.
Before I could say anything else the door burst open with a loud bang.
“Take Harry and run!!” James said as he started towards the door.
Lily runs out of the room while holding me. Leaving her wand forgotten on the floor.
As she sets me on my crib we hear the sound of the killing curse ring through the apartment as Lily falls into tears.
“I love you Harry…” she says before turning back towards Voldemort, “Stay away from him!”
“AVADA KEDAVRA!!!!” Voldemort yells as Lily falls to the ground. He then turns towards me, “so you are the one destined to kill me… pathetic.”
With the little strength my baby body had I spit at him and while it didn't go far enough to hit him, it definitely implied what I thought of him.
“Impudent little brat! AVADA KEDAVRA!” Voldemort yells before screaming out in pain.
The green light that flashes around is blinding. I close my eyes before feeling pain in my head. It felt worse than the migraines I used to get. So bad that I screamed as well. Well, at least as much as a baby could scream.
My vision goes black but before I fall asleep I see Mr. No nose start to disintegrate while reeling in pain. Good…
By the time I wake back up I am in the motorcycle flying through the air towards Dumbledore and Professor McGonogall. I turn my head slightly and see Hagrid. I always forget what he looks like but he is a lot taller than I imagined. But then again, as a kid I imagined him as a giant pig with stripes of different colors which were mostly dull pinks and grays.
The motorcycle gently lands on the ground and I hear them talking for a little bit. I don’t really care what they are saying. I’m really just trying to push myself away from the Dursleys house.
“Good luck Harry,” Dumbledore whispers to me, snapping me back to attention. I feel my eyelids start to grow heavy. Not in the sleepy way but in a strangely unnatural way. As I fight sleep, I can hear Dumbledore whispering some more spells, not ones I can make out though. Eventually my eyes droop closed and I fall asleep.
I have been living with the Dursleys for 5 years now and I’m almost 6. My birthday is tomorrow. Over time I have adjusted, little bits at a time. Over those 5 years I’ve been preparing to learn magic.
I’ve mostly been building up my physical strength. I went on runs around the block and climbed trees. As well as this, I’ve adventured into alleys and sewers so much that I found a fight group. The Single Match. They promised they would teach me to fight when I turned 6 so I have that to look forward to.
Though, I had one main plan first. And it started with talking to “Aunt petunia”.
“Aunt Petunia?”
“What do you want, Harry?” Petunia sighs, already having an annoyed look on her face.
“I don’t think I’m a boy. I think I’m a girl. Can I be one?” I ask quietly. I had never liked being a boy in this life. In my last one I was a girl and I liked how I was back then.
To my surprise, Petunia smiled. She didn’t look angry or mad but instead almost happy.
“Of course! I have some old clothes you can have and you can start growing your hair out. But, this doesn’t mean you get to slack off on your chores. And if you go anywhere near my baby boy you will get in trouble.” Petunia says.
“Thank you!!” I exclaim. That went better than I thought. I guess that part of the plan was easy.
I run back to my cupboard to grab my sketch book. While I was going to be given dresses, there was no way I was going to wear the ugly dresses that Petunia likes.
While looking through my cupboard, which looks mostly the same as it did in the movies, I saw my mirror. As I study my new face, the one that has no resemblance of my past one. In the past, I had dark brown hair like I did now, but it was always a bit lower than my shoulders and neat. As well as that, I was missing my earrings and tattoo. I had gotten a tattoo of three dots near my right eye in my past life. What I missed the most though was my eyes. While they are green now, I used to have two different eye colors. One a dark gray and the other being a bright red.
I shake my head slightly before turning back to the mess that is my cupboard and grabbing a sketchbook. As I start to draw, my mind wanders. I can’t let people know about my memories, I need to learn occlumency. As I thought back to my past life, I had been an astrophysicist. Obsessed with space and time. My greatest dream was to enter a black hole, even if it would cause my death. So I started with that. I imagined a black hole entering my mind. Covering my thoughts. Taking in more and more and growing but once something enters it can’t leave.
I started with a memory of this life. My fourth birthday when Vernon had punched me in the face. I let it enter the black hole. As I felt the memory fall away from my front most thoughts, I tried to focus on it. As I pulled it slightly, it reacted. I relived the memory. The pain and the anger rushing back into my body and brain. The pain knocked me back into my body, taking me away from the black hole and the memory. As I pushed against my mind slightly I felt it calm down, the black hole storing the memory while I can still access it. As I feed the black hole my memories, I start to hear a hissing noise.
As I look up, I see a snake.
Hello, the snake says as it slithers towards me, you are a speaker?
Yes, I am a parseltongue, I hiss back, what type of snake are you?
I am a banded krait, the snake responds.
A banded krait is a dangerous snake. They have powerful venom that can cause paralysis.
Would you like to join me? I will keep you safe and fed, I offer. I love snakes. Snakes and cats have always been my favorite but a cat wouldn’t be very useful in a magic setting as it can not fly and I wouldn’t be able to communicate with it. Though, I would love a dragon.
I would love to!
I will call you Sylvester. You may call me… Haley, okay, I guess that Haley is the name I’ll go by instead of Harry. It’s closer to Harry than the name I had in my past life. My old name was Vixxie, a fun name but it doesn’t share a single letter with the name Harry.
Okay Haley! I like the name Sylvester!
As Sylvester slithers up my arm onto my shoulders I realize I’m going to have to figure out how to hide Sylvester from the Dursleys. But not today.
The next day I got the new clothing, which I considered my birthday present. Of course Dudley complained about me getting something but he was given ice cream so he stopped complaining.
I quickly sewed together new clothes as I continued to feed my memories into the black hole.
Making a dress I liked didn’t take as long as I expected so I went to go to the sewers where the Single Match met.
“I am now 6! Please train me!” I yell out once I climb down into the sewer.
“Good to see you have not grown any less brash Harry,” Josh laughs as he walks up to me. I take a quick look at him and see his normally dirty black hair is actually clean for once.
“It’s actually Haley now, and you finally washed your hair?!? I thought you said that would never happen!” I laugh as well. Josh is a good friend. He’s the son of the leader of the Single Match. His mom, Madam Kali, was a sweet but dangerous woman who learned to quickly how tough the world is so she started teaching people of all ages how to fight.
“Well then Haley, my mom is starting a lesson in a few minutes so you better hurry. Also, my hair wasn’t that dirty!”
“If you say so,” I smirk as I run past him, leaving him no time to respond. Madam Kali is known to be a tough teacher so I can’t be late to my first lesson. If I’m lucky it won’t hurt as much as learning to fight did in my past life.
I was wrong. It hurt twice as much as before. Every time I got thrown to the ground it felt like I was being murdered. I practiced the entire day so by the time I was going back up from the sewer I was covered in sweat and it was almost 2 am. Not a good look for a 6 year old.
I carefully climb into the house through a window and quietly sneak back into my cupboard. I am going to go to Diagon alley soon. I can’t deal with this small of a room. Especially with no space to train.
Hey Sylvester? Are you hungry? I ask. I did promise to keep Sylvester well fed.
Yes Haley. I am, Sylvester hisses.
I feed Sylvester a few rats I caught in the sewers earlier today. I really need to get a good food supply for Sylvester but I can’t exactly do that yet.
Is it possible that you can be more hidden than that? I want to take you out of this small cupboard but you would scare everyone around you Sylvester, I quietly hiss.
If I become your magical familiar which would involve me biting you I will be able to turn into a tattoo along your back. Though, once you get your magic you will be able to turn me invisible. Sylvester hisses.
Okay, you can bite me Sylvester, I hiss.
Sylvester slithers up to my arm and carefully bites my wrist. As Sylvester’s venom spreads through my body I feel the feeling of venom change from painful to a more calming feeling. Like something was cleaning out my blood and putting in new blood.
As Sylvester turns into a tattoo along my back, I hear a banging sound.
“WAKE UP YOU BRAT!!! IT’S TIME FOR YOU TO MAKE BREAKFAST!” I hear Vernon yell.
Wincing from the loud noise I carefully open the door and head to the kitchen. Making breakfast at 6 years old while having pulled an all nighter is not a good combo though as when I go to turn on the stove the fire sparks from my fingers creating a small fire in my hand.
I stare at the fire intently as I try to make it grow bigger. While I had done accidental magic before, this was the first time it felt like I was able to control it.
“Wha- what are you doing!!!” Petunia whispers from behind me. With a little yelp the fire in my hand goes out.
“Just turning on the stove!” I quickly say as I turn on the stove and start to grab the pans needed to name breakfast.
“Don’t do that again or I will tell Vernon,” Petunia says before slowly walking over to the dining table to set it.
That was a bit too close. But, it seems I have some magic to start practicing.
After cooking breakfast I go back to my cupboard while I want to start practicing. I was exhausted from last night and just wanted to sleep to be honest.
As I slipped into the dark abyss of sleep my mind thought back to the black hole in my mind, the beginning of my magical journey.
