Sorcerers, meet Wizards

Getting called to Yaga’s office was nothing out of the ordinary.

In fact, it was almost engraved into Gojo’s routine, whether it was a new mission assignment or a lecture about respecting the higher-ups. The path to get there was almost too familiar.

What wasn’t normal, though, was the mystery guest seated at Yaga's desk, chatting with his sensei.

The ancient man sat with his hands folded politely on the table in front of him. He had on deep purple robes that fell all the way to the floor with a matching purple hat, both of which were decorated with a pattern of silver stars.

His age was etched onto his face in his deep wrinkles and his silver hair and beard reached down to his waist. He looked old, so Gojo assumed that he wasn’t a fellow sorcerer, as most rarely made it past the age of forty.

However, behind his half-moon spectacles, his bright blue eyes were sharp and clever.

To add further evidence to his theory that this man was a non-sorcerer, his cursed energy was different. Instead of laying dormant beneath his skin, it seemed to idle in a glow around him.

Soooo, what’s up?” Gojo drawled while leaning against the door frame.

Both men glanced up from their conversation. The old geezer smiled gently.

“Gojo, come in. I have a mission for you.”

He slid off the wall and stepped to join the duo at the desk. “A mission? I’m guessing it’s something special if you called me up here?”

The robed man cleared his throat and, in surprisingly clear Japanese, explained, “I’m afraid you’re correct. My name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, and I need a favor.”

He stuck out a wrinkled hand for Gojo to shake.

“Gojo Satoru.” Gojo grabbed Dumbledore’s hand to shake, a little bit unused to the gesture.

“Satoru, we have a bit of concerning news.” Yaga stated.

“Oh?” Gojo raised his eyebrows so they could be seen over his round sunglasses.

“A cursed spirit was found in England, inside a school.”

Gojo smiled. “Well, I suppose you want me to come and exorcise it then. Is that it?”

“I’m afraid not, boy. I’m the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the curse was found. It should have been impossible for the cursed spirit to get through the barrier.”

Gojo, who was uncharacteristically rendered speechless for a second, quickly broke out into his signature grin.

“Witchcraft and wizardry? Is that what you British people call sorcery?”

Dumbledore smiled as Yaga pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.

“No. Wizards are their own secret society. They use cursed energy differently.”

“Wait, what? Wizards?”

Dumbledore laughed quietly, and then explained, “I’m sure that this is quite unbelievable for you, but I assure you that us wizards are real and in dire need of the assistance of a sorcerer. I myself was quite shocked when I learned about your people.”

“Woah, woah! Slow down! Do you guys actually have wands? Do you fly around on broom sticks and make potions and-”

“Gojo! That’s enough!” Yaga snapped. Gojo was clearly having too much fun.

Dumbledore chuckled merrily again. “It’s quite alright, Yaga. And yes, Gojo, we indeed do all of those things.”

“Whaaat? For real? Are you kidding? C’mon let’s go right now!”

“Gojo, you are here to listen to the details of this mission. If you continue to act like a fool, I'll gladly send Geto instead of you.”

“Alright, alright, I'm listening.”

“Good.”

Yaga sucked in another deep breath and turned toward Albus, offering him the chance to explain.

“Thank you very much for your enthusiasm, Mr. Gojo. Now let me explain. Hogwarts is a school deep in Scotland that is hidden away from muggles. Those are non-sorcerers, by the way.” He explained quickly after Gojo opened his mouth to ask.

“Recently,” he continued, “We found an entity inside of our school that was unable to be affected much by our magic. And yes, we do call it magic.” Gojo shut his mouth again.

“It was aggressive toward our staff and neither I nor our professor for the Care of Magical Creatures class could identify it as any magical creature. Naturally, I began researching what it could possibly be. I discovered sorcerers purely by accident when looking through a book of records in the forbidden section of the library. This book has since been removed.”

Yaga nodded appreciatively.

“I contacted your principal near the start of summer when we found the…cursed spirit. We both find it very concerning that a cursed spirit is not only in England, but in one of the best protected places on Earth.”

Gojo digested the information.

“So, I’m guessing you want me to exorcise the curse and find out how it got there?”

“Precisely. I also want you to act as a kind of security guard. We can’t have curses running around attacking students, after all.”

Gojo grinned and shot up finger guns. “Gotcha, old-timer! Now, gimme the deets!”

“Gojo-” Yaga seethed.

“It’s quite alright, Yaga.” Dumbledore looked amused. “The gift of youth is truly a joy.”

Yaga deflated. “Yes, well, let’s finish up quickly, shall we?”

The rest of the meeting went off fairly smoothly. Gojo was to arrive at Hogwarts in mid-August to deal with the cursed spirit and begin investigations before the students arrived on September first. If all went according to plan, Gojo would be home before even having to meet the little British demons.

Dumbledore shook both of their hands one last time before departing.

“Thank you again, Mr. Gojo. Expect more information on your upcoming journey soon.”

Then Dumbledore was gone, down the path on the mountain side.

Once the end of the purple robe swished around a corner out of view, Yaga grabbed onto the front of Gojo’s uniform.

“You don’t get to meddle in wizard politics, got it?”

Gojo waved his hand back and forth. “Yeah yeah, don’t insult their Queen or whatever. Do you truly think so little of me, Yaga-sensei?”

“I’m just as excited for you to go on this mission as you are, Satoru. Now go brush up on your English.”
