Chapter 10
Baelon flew through the air on his broom, with the wind making his dark curls fly wildly as he soared above the clouds. He was taking a morning flight to clear his mind after everything that had happened the night before.
His father had been enraged after Baelon had told him about what happened with his uncle Viserys. Criston Cole had glared daggers at him the moment their eyes met in the great hall, and the queen's eyes were filled with pure hatred. It was only his words that kept his father from confronting the king for what he did.
Soaring high, he heard a roar and looked down. A massive beast was flying towards him. Vhagar roared, and Baelon swerved through the air, escaping Vhagar's jaws. Atop the great beast was Aemond, with his eye glaring at him.
"Give me back my eye!" yelled Aemond as Baelon flew faster and faster. Baelon swerved quickly, faster than the large beast, and dived down to the ocean below. He lifted himself up, flying above the surface of the water, and suddenly felt a great heat.
"Dracarys!" yelled Aemond, and the giant dragon obliged, raining flames upon Baelon.
Turning towards the flames, Baelon focused and held out a hand.
"Aqua eructo!" The waves followed his command, and he watched as a giant pillar of water emerged from the ocean to meet Vhagar's flames. The fire and water collided, causing an explosion of steam that knocked Baelon backwards. Holding tightly to his broom, he focused his magic to try to make it back to the island as fast as possible. Looking back, he heard Vhagar roar as the beast was shrouded in a cloud of steam.
"Glacius!"
The water beneath the great beast stilled before Baelon watched as spikes of ice flew up through the air. Arrows of ice soared up at the great beast, and the old dragon let out a pained roar.
Baelon grinned as Vhagar roared, and he turned towards Driftmark. His vision went hazy, and he heard a familiar roar. Flying towards him was Caraxes along with another red dragon, Meleys.
Exhausted, he soared towards his father's dragon.
"Baelon!" Yelled Daemon as his son flew to meet him in the air. With a thud, he landed on Caraxes' back, falling into his father's arms as everything went black.
