19 January 1976
Gryffindor Tower, girls dormitory
“I suggest… Fuck, marry, kill. The boys", Mary says, breaking the silence. Her eyes not tearing from the Muggle fashion magazine she is flipping through, lying on her belly in her bed.
“The boys? What boys?”, Alice asks, looking up from the letter she was giggling at a few moments ago (surely from Frank, even though she denied it). Sitting on her bed, her back against the headboard, she adjusted the covers pulled up to her chin.
“You know which boys”, Lily groaned from her spot on the floor, back rested against Mary’s bed. Those boys were all Mary had been talking about lately. That and the new fashion wave with the introduction of disco and glam rock to the Wizarding Community. Mary would always fixate over whatever fashion stance was popular with Muggles and Wizards, posters of models, designs and designers filling the space around her bed to prove it.
“Fuck Sirius, marry Peter, kill Sirius”, Alice responds quickly, turning her eyes back to the letter.
“The ‘kill Sirius’ is valid, but you would fuck him? Really?”, Lily inquires, her face contorted in disgust and worry.
“Oh, please! He is the most handsome boy in our year”, Mary licks her lips, turning her body to face the girls and letting the magazine close. “Probably in the whole school, really.”
“You are just obsessed”, Marlene laughs, throwing the miniature Quaffle into the air and catching it back and forth.
“True.”
“Oh, shut it, Lils, and keep pretending you don't like James”, Mary remarks, a devilish grin playing in her lips. The redheaded simply rolls her eyes and picks her book back up from where she put it when Mary started talking. “And you, McKinnon, I see the looks you have been sharing with a certain someone…”
Mary wiggles her eyebrows suggestively and Alice and Lily ooh, while Marlene's face heats up and the Quaffle falls on her lap.
“Don't you dare, MacDonald!”, Marlene squeaks, raising to her feet and pointing a finger at her friend, trying to conceal her laughter and embarrassment.
“As if we don't all know…”, Alice sings softly, making the other girls laugh.
“I still want your answers, though”, Mary insists, poking Lily with her foot.
“Oh, for fucks sake…”, she grumbles. “Fuck and marry Remus and Peter, kill James and Sirius.”
“HA”, Mary laughs, throwing her head back. “Pete would make a good husband, to be fair.”
All the girls nod to that. At least they all agreed on something.
“And you?”, Alice asks, clearly curious with the suspense Mary was creating.
“Fuck them all, marry them all, kill them all”, she answers simply, as if bored, checking her nails.
“Liar!”, Lily accuses, twisting her body to reach and tickle her friend.
“Ok! Ok!”, the girl surrenders, laughing. “Fuck Sirius, marry… Well, I had just thought about the fucking, really.”
Alice snorts and Lily shakes her head disapprovingly. Marlene was back to throwing the Quaffle at the ceiling, still thinking about her someone.
“And you, Lene?”, Mary asks, waving the magazine in the hair to get the blond’s attention.
“Fuck Remus, marry James, kill Sirius.”
“You would marry James?!” Lily screams, looking horrified at her friend.
Mary and Alice share a look over her, smiling knowingly.
“Of course! He knows how to cook and I would get to see Effie all the time!”, Marlene answers, gesticulating with her hands at the mention of James' amazing mom.
“Valid”, Mary states and the other two girls nod in agreement.
The older woman was a view, gorgeous and funny. A wonderful person and a great cook. She always gave the best and warmest hugs (with the best and warmest breasts, if Marlene's opinion was to be considered).
“Still”, Lily says, “Remus can also cook, his mom is also incredible, and the dude has a truck. Besides, he is the only one that can hold an intelligent conversation for more than five seconds.”
“He has a truck?!”, Mary yelps, looking at Lily with wide eyes.
“He can drive?!”, Alice copies, actually surprised.
“Yeah, he took us on a ride on his pick-up in the summer”, Marlene shared, as if it wasn't anything special.
“Why am I only now hearing about this?”, Mary asks, a hand on her chest to exaggerate the betrayal, her curly afro wiggling in a way that made Marlene chuckle.
“We told you… On the first day of school”, Lily replied, looking at her sceptically. “But you didn't care about anything that didn't involve your Sirius Black.”
Alice gasps dramatically and reaches to grasp Marlene's shoulder and laugh with her, both ready for the drama.
“Oh, don't you start, Miss Evans!” Mary pointed a finger at her.
Their bickering went back and forth, with Alice and Marlene watching intently until a knock on the door interrupted them and a head of brown hair peaked inside.
“Frank!”, Alice called, excited.
“Frank, fuck, marry, kill with Sirius, James, Remus and Pete!”, Mary rushes, almost falling off her bed.
Taken aback, Frank glances at Alice, who shrugs, before slowly slipping into the room and closing the door behind him.
“Ahm… I guess fuck Remus, marry James — his mom, you know —”, the girls nod and grunt in agreement, “and kill Sirius, because that would be the only way for him to allow me to touch his man. And Remus.”
They all laugh at the joke, all very aware of the tension between the two boys (and between Sirius and anyone that comes too close to Remus), but also of the famous and inseparable duo that were James and Sirius.
“Anyway, I came here because you were taking so long to respond…”, the boy said looking at Alice, his neck getting redder under the gaze of the four girls.
“Who would have guessed…”, Marlene starts.
“That the so secret sender…”, Lily continues.
“Was Frank!”, Mary finishes, giggling with the other two girls.
Frank smiles and crosses the room to Alice, who is hiding her flushed face under the sheets. Frank pokes her around, making her squirm and giggle until she pulls him by the waist, rolling their bodies on the bed until they are cuddling under the covers.
“Disgusting”, Mary comments, not having looked away during the whole interaction.
“You are just jealous”, Alice jokes, winking at her friend.
