SPIDEY CAN’T BEAR IT
Spiderman goes about his day swinging around New York. He is talking through an earpiece in his mask to his mission control saying that things look peaceful so far. He is going to just check one more block before returning home. However, Spidey is knocked out of the air and he curses under his breath that he jinxed it. His mission control says that’s the Parker luck, it’s really shitty.
Spiderman sees a villain whom appears to be a human/Grizzly bear hybrid. Spiderman says that the third new animal supervillains and wonders if there is a higher power whom is a furry or something. The guy introduces himself as the Grizzly and he wants revenge on Spiderman. Spiderman asks what he did to him. Grizzly asks if Spiderman doesn’t remember. Spiderman states he ticked off a lot of people in the criminal world, he can’t be expected to remember them all.
Of course this doesn’t sit well with Grizzly whom fights Spidey. Spidey says he knows the type, big on muscle not big on brains. Spidey has the upper hand but notices that the Grizzly uses a lot of wrestling theme moves, more grappling and throwing rather the punches and charges like Rhino.
Grizzly reveals himself as Maxwell Markham, whom was once a wrestler. The same wrestler that Spiderman defeated before his hero career in a match. He was an undefeated champion but a scrawny kid like him broke his streak and he lost his reputation. And he has gone through all this trouble to become a strong man-bear to defeat Spiderman. He asks what the scrawny webslinger has to say about that.
Spiderman says ‘Sorry’. It catches Grizzly off-guard as he replies with a dumb ‘what?’ Spiderman says he didn’t mean to ruin Grizzly’s career. He was just a dumb kid whom needed money at the time. He never even wanted a career out of it. Grizzly start to think and asks if Spiderman is trying to make a fool of him. Spiderman assures he’s not. Because while Grizzly lost his career, his actions led to indirectly also losing something he valued.
Grizzly says he didn’t expect the apology and didn’t expect either that’s what he wanted to hear and now kind of feels bad. However, he guy whom gave him his new powers asked for something in return and he can hardly go back to being a wrestler due to the commotion he started. So he’s sorry he has to fight Spidey again. Spiderman asks if he can tell whom did that to him. And maybe he can help Grizzly get back on his feet.
Grizzly however says he can’t. He apologizes as he returns to fighting Spiderman. Spiderman wins the fight and leaves Grizzly for the police.
Spiderman ducks in an alley, switches back to his civilian outfit, and Peter Parker returns home. Aunt May says Peter is unusually early, often he is held up. Peter says that his last job didn’t take as long as the others. Aunt May says it’s a good thing since she made Wheatcakes, Peter’s favorite. She just asks if Peter would call down his sister.
Peter goes to knock on his sister’s room. Penelope ‘Call me Peni or else’ Parker opens up and says it was a new record. Peter says that after Rhino, Grizzly is a cakewalk and his heart wasn’t not too in it. Peni says that they’ll have a talk…right after the wheatcakes, she could smell them from her room and she loves them.
After dinner, the siblings go around a conspiracy board and several pictures of new supervillains are pinned on it. Peni and Peter both conclude that obviously that can’t be a coincidence with the frequency of which they appear. And while they weren’t wimps, they weren’t anything Spiderman hadn’t faced before. Someone must be trying to study him or something else. Though they have too little info to go off at the moment.
Soon, a larger spider in a super-mechanized hamster ball rolls in and demands attention of the siblings. Peter asks Peni if she made that for SP//der. Peni says it would be so cute for him. Peter agrees, though he notes he won’t let Peni name any pets they may have in the future.
Peni says she should make a mech for the little spider to pilot. I mean, ever since it bit and gave Peter his powers, he has been growing bigger and smarter too. Peter notes sarcastically that isn’t in the budget for the moment. Peni says she would like a mech too, so that Peter won’t have to put his butt on the line every day, she worries for him. And Peter says he can hardly get her get bitten by SP//der too. Because while it gave him powers, he is fearful of side effects or changes he may go through in the future.
Peni wonders why it has to be him. Peter says she knows why. Peni says she misses Uncle Ben too. But she can’t blame Peter, and Peter should stop blaming himself too. Peter says regardless it is the right thing they do. And he appreciates that he has his fav little sister covering for him. Peni says that someone has to make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid, she’s the brains. Peter notes he’s as smart as her, they both have equally good grades. Peni playfully notes its because he doesn’t want to embarrass him.
Later that evening when Aunt May is asleep, Peter and Peni sneak out with their pet spider, and go to an abandoned warehouse district, near a scrapyard. There they are working on more tools with the limited resources they have. Both work through most of the night and create a device that would not only help recycle web material better, but can recycle other chemical compounds, which would make it easier to conserve Spiderman’s web reserves. They think they could patent this though they wonder how they’d do that without giving away Peter is Spiderman. At least the two will be able to help the city better.
In another place, a person hangs up pictures of the recent villains as well but they are not friendly. A guy in a lab coat and an Egyptian Anubis-themed mask is watching footage of Spiderman’s fights with the recent villains. Under his mask he smirks and says that this endeavor has been proven quite educational.
TRIVIA
- Yeah decided to see if I can do for marvel comics what I did with my Transformers fic ‘Tales of Cybertron’, just having random moments in the shared universe with different marvel characters. Since my Marvel knowledge is miminal and I can’t seem to get a reboot started about it I try it this way. And see where it brings me.
- Of course I start with Spiderman. He’s everyone’s fav.
- Grizzly, whom is an ex-wrestler, is composited with the wrestler Spiderman defeats before his crime fighting career. Thought it’d be a nice little connection.
- An alternate Peni whom is not only Peter’s sister here but his biggest support. They even keep the spider that bit Peter as a pet, and whom will become part of Peni’s future mech.
- That’s Jackal at the end. However, instead of a furrier goblin look-a-like, he has an Anubis-like face mask. Themed after the jackal god.
- Peter and Peni’s fav dish are wheatcakes, which I got from watching a Spiderman walkthrough and a side mission reveals it being Peter’s favs.
- Anyhow, am just going to try something out and see if I can do this on longer term. A bit of an experiment to see if it works out. I didn’t expect my Transformers fic to gain that much chapters, so who knows?
