Will We Ever Find Them?

You woke up the next morning to the shrill screech of your stepmother.

“Get down here!”

You got up as quick as you could, dressing as you went. You very rarely slept in. You didn’t get a chance to after your fathers passing, as you were always needed by your stepmother for anything and everything.

You rushed downstairs and bowed before her. “You called, stepmother.”

“Yes, I did,” she growled as she hit you. “You were supposed to already have breakfast done. Now get to it. We don’t pay you to sleep.”

When you got into the kitchen, you whispered to yourself, “you don’t pay me at all, you ungrateful cow.”

You got to work on what was bound to be a grueling and long day.

—————

James and Lily had been scouring the kingdom for their missing person, but so far, no one had been able to put on the ring. Some had used some weird tactics to try and have more shots.

They were coming up to another house. Both of them got off their horse, James tied the reins nearby as Sirius and Remus walked over with them. Their other guards stayed with the horses.

“Have hope, love,” Lily told James as they turned to each other. James held out his hand, which Lily took. “We’ll find them. We have to.”

The couple walked up to the door, knocked and waited. Before long, a beautifully done up woman answered the door, opening it only a little.

“Ma’am, we’re Prince James and Princess Lily of the kingdom,” James told her. “We’re looking for someone who was at the ball last night. May we meet all the members of the household?”

“Of course, your highnesses,” she told the two in front of her. She turned to face more into the house. “Girls, come down here. We have guests.”

She opened the door more, walking out as she smiled at them. Except in the royals minds, it didn’t look like a smile, more like a grimace.

She was about to close the door as she saw the two people with their horses. “Are they with you, your highness?”

“Yes, they’re friends of ours,” James said loud enough for them to hear.

Two young women walked out of the house. The older woman turned to them. “Come here.” They came to stand either side of her. “These are my daughters, Drusilla and Alana.” She gestured to them as she said their names. “Girls, this is Prince James and Princess Lily. They’re in search of someone.” Both Drusilla and Alana curtsied.

Lily moved her hand to the chain around her neck. “This ring was on the person we met last night. The person we chose. They dropped it. We were hoping to use it to find them. Would you please try it on, Drusilla, Alana?”

The two girls curtsied and responded, “yes, your highnesses.”

James unclasped the chain and Lily took the ring off, holding it in her hand.

She moved to Drusilla, taking her hand trying to place it on her hand, but it shrunk just before it reached her finger. “It’s not her.”

James moved to Alana, taking the ring from his fiance. He took Alana’s hand, as he placed the ring on her hand, the ring became bigger than it was and bigger than her hand. “It’s not her either.”

James told them, “you may rise.”

All three of them stood again as both James and Lily smiled at the three women.

“Thank you for your time,” Lily said as the two of them turned to leave. As they were about to get on their horses, Lily stopped, hearing someone, but she couldn’t be sure where from. She turned to where the three women were, only to see them still standing there smiling at them, which meant that someone else was there. There had to be. The voice sounded like it was nearby.

She rushed over and ordered, “there’s someone else in the house. Bring them out.”

“There’s no one else here, your highness,” the mother said sweetly. A little too sweet and a little too loud.

James rushed over. “There is. I can see them in that window. Bring them down or we will send our men up there to bring them down.”

“You’re obviously seeing things,” Drusilla spat angrily at the two royals.

Sirius rushed over and hit her. “You have no right to speak to anybody like that, much less a royal.”
