Chapter 4
The aftermath of the party left a lingering tension in the air. Cormac McLaggen was humiliated, and it didn’t take long for him to plot his revenge. The whispers and rumors had already spread throughout the school, igniting Cormac’s need to retaliate.
Days later, as Y/N and Mattheo strolled through the castle grounds, they noticed a group of Gryffindors loitering near the entrance to the Forbidden Forest. Y/N felt a knot tighten in her stomach; she could tell they were waiting for something—or someone.
“Maybe we should head back,” Y/N suggested, glancing nervously at Mattheo.
“Nah, they’re just looking for trouble,” Mattheo replied, confidence lacing his tone. But Y/N could see the tension in his jaw as they approached the group.
As they neared, Cormac stepped forward, flanked by his friends, his expression a mix of rage and smugness. “Well, well, if it isn’t the couple of the hour,” he sneered, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Think you’re tough, Riddle?”
Mattheo’s eyes narrowed, his posture stiffening. “I’m not interested in whatever pathetic game you’re trying to play, McLaggen.”
Cormac stepped closer, fists clenching at his sides. “You think you can just throw punches and walk away? Let’s see how you handle this.” He nodded to his friends, who moved to encircle Mattheo.
Y/N’s heart raced as she realized the situation was escalating quickly. “Mattheo, maybe we should just walk away—”
But before she could finish, Cormac lunged at Mattheo, throwing a wild punch. Mattheo dodged, countering with a sharp jab. But Cormac’s friends quickly joined the fray, and soon it was two against one.
“Hey! Back off!” Y/N shouted, stepping forward. But the group ignored her, focused on Mattheo.
Suddenly, something inside Y/N snapped. She surged forward, fueled by adrenaline and fury. “You want a fight? You’ve got one!” She pushed through the crowd, fists clenched, surprising everyone, including herself.
With unexpected speed, Y/N tackled one of Cormac’s friends, landing a punch that caught him off guard. “You think you can just bully him?” she shouted, her usually calm demeanor replaced by fierce determination.
Cormac’s eyes widened in disbelief as he watched Y/N fight back, her punches powerful and precise. The Gryffindors hesitated, taken aback by her sudden aggression. Mattheo, seeing Y/N in action, felt a mix of admiration and shock.
“Y/N, you don’t have to—” he began, but she was already fully engaged, tackling another of Cormac’s friends who had moved to flank her.
In the chaos, Mattheo regained his footing. With renewed energy, he took on Cormac directly. The two exchanged blows, and as the fight raged on, it became clear that Y/N’s determination and unexpected ferocity were tipping the scales.
After a few moments of fray, the Gryffindors realized they were outmatched. With Y/N landing another well-placed punch, the remaining friends began to retreat, Cormac glaring daggers at them. “This isn’t over!” he spat before backing off.
Once the dust settled, Mattheo turned to Y/N, breathless and slightly bruised, a grin breaking through his previous tension. “I didn’t know you had it in you.”
Y/N, still flushed with adrenaline, chuckled lightly, brushing her hair back from her face. “Neither did I. But they had it coming.”
With the confrontation behind them, Y/N took Mattheo by the hand and led him back toward the castle, her heart racing. “Let’s get you cleaned up,” she said, her voice softening as she led him to her Hufflepuff dormitory, which was cozy and inviting.
Once inside, Y/N grabbed her first-aid kit, her fingers trembling slightly from the adrenaline. “Sit down,” she instructed, gesturing toward her bed. Mattheo obeyed, a slight smirk on his face despite the bruises beginning to form.
Y/N carefully began to clean the scrapes and bruises on his knuckles and jaw. “You’re lucky Cormac didn’t land any serious hits,” she murmured, focused on her task.
“Yeah, well, I wasn’t going to let him get away with it,” Mattheo replied, his tone light. “But you were incredible out there. I didn’t know you had that side to you.”
Y/N paused, meeting his gaze. “I just couldn’t stand by and watch him bully you. You mean too much to me.”
Mattheo’s expression softened, the tension in his features easing as he watched her work. “I appreciate that, Y/N. It’s nice to know I’ve got someone who’s got my back.”
As Y/N finished bandaging his knuckles, she felt a rush of warmth at his words. “Just don’t make a habit of getting into fights, okay? You might not always have me to save the day.”
Mattheo chuckled softly, the sound making Y/N’s heart flutter. “I’ll try to keep that in mind. But with you around, it’s hard not to provoke a bit of trouble.”
With a final touch, Y/N stepped back, surveying her work. “There. All done. You’ll be ready for the next round in no time.”
Mattheo leaned back, a teasing glint in his eyes. “Maybe I should take you into the ring next time.”
“Just as long as I don’t have to face Cormac again,” Y/N replied, a playful smile on her lips. “I’m not sure I can handle another encounter like that.”
Mattheo reached out, taking her hand gently. “You know I’ll always be here to stand with you. Whatever happens, we’ll face it together.”
