Chapter 4

Just like any normal friendship, sometimes you get into arguments with each other. This one happened in their 6th year at Hogwarts. Newt and Leta were in the dining hall, arguing early in the morning.

“I told you, Leta I’m only keeping the Jarvey because he’s injured,” Newt argued. “I will release her soon.”

“If I can just borrow it for a bit, I promise no one would find out.” Leta clasped her hands.

Newt shook his head. “No, I will never agree to this.”

“Okay fine.” Leta sighed and left.

Newt didn’t follow Leta. He knows that she would be upset with him and would like to be by herself for a while.

Newt knows that this is just one of those reckless decisions Leta comes up with when she is annoyed. If anyone understands these creatures more than Newt it would be her. She is very much aware that they have feelings too and would not appreciate it if they were used by humans for cruel crimes.

Newt can fully trust Leta, or so he thought.

"I'm sorry,” Leta said looking down, not meeting his eyes.

"What happened?" Newt asked, confused and concerned at the same time.

“I was just experimenting with it. I didn’t mean for it to kill a student. They will expel me for sure,” she cried. “I’m so sorry!”

Newt stared at her in horror, immediately realizing what she was saying.

He was betrayed by Leta. But he knows that she had been studying hard in the past years hoping to work in the ministry someday. She can’t get expelled.

“Don’t worry I’ll handle it,” he comforted her.

Professor Dumbledore who seems to have developed a liking to Newt as his student, was eyeing him closely as he told a false story to Headmaster Black. It doesn’t take long for the headmaster to believe him since his love for these magical beasts is already obvious evidence for every one.

And Newt was expelled.

“Newt, I don’t believe that you did it. But whatever reason for you to do this, I hope you won’t regret it.” Professor Dumbledore said. “I will try to alleviate the punishment as much as I can.”

“Thank you, professor,” he replied.

Before going back to his room to pack, he first went to the dining hall. He ignored the accusing stares from everyone and focused on looking for Leta. He wants to at least say goodbye and assure her that he is not mad at her.

He saw Leta sitting at the Slytherin table eating on her own. When she noticed him, she immediately stood up and left, tears falling from her eyes.

He tried to follow her, but she disappeared when he turned the corner, avoiding him. He knows that she does this whenever she feels guilty of something.

And that is the last time Newt saw his friend for a very long time.
