I gained a brother.
Not in the usual way, unfortunately my parents are too old for that, but I met a boy called Sirius Black at school last week and he's so legal.
He jumps from the highest part of the playground, climbs trees to get fruit and stole Professor Mcgonagall's chocolate, and even though he was grounded afterwards, it was quite an achievement.
He came into school a little while ago and said he's moving to our town now, and he played with me when everyone got tired, and when at the end of the day, I said we were best friends, instead of him getting scared or saying that already has another best friend, he agreed with me and hugged me, and then he invited me to his birthday party, which obviously means he's my brother now.
Sirius has many cousins, and they are all redheads, which confused me at first, because Sirius is dark-skinned, but he explained it to me.
“My blood family is bad, only Reggie and Andy are cool, so we went away and met our new family, the Weasleys, and they are so much cooler, cousin Charlie goes to college to take care of snakes!”
And then he took me to meet his cousin, because who would deny knowing someone who works with snakes?
We played a lot that day, I was the only guest who wasn't Sirius' family, but he had so many cousins, it didn't matter, as there would always be someone to play with you.
We were playing hide and seek when I met him.
It was Fred who was telling, and even though he was younger than me, he always found me, so I hid very well that time, I ran to the back of the house, where I had seen some adults go, it was a kind of courtyard , and some of Sirius' uncles were there, but they promised not to tell anyone I was here, so it was fine. I hid behind a tree, and occasionally looked to see if any red hair was in sight, but then a noise caught my attention.
It was someone's crying.
Looking once again to make sure no one would see me, I followed this crying to a corner of the courtyard, where I found a little boy, smaller than me, with hair as black as Batman's costume, crying.
He was supposed to be Reggie, Sirius' brother.
And I couldn't leave my brother's brother crying, could I? It would be, like, I don't know, breaking some super important rule of our brotherhood, so I ran towards Reggie, skidding to a stop, and scaring him in the process.
— Hey, what's wrong? Why are you crying? — I asked, seeing his reddish eyes turn to me, wide, big blue eyes staring at me.
And then he frowned.
— I don't know you — he said, petulantly, forming a super cute pout.
— I'm James, I'm Sirius's best friend — I said, holding out my hand, just like Dad had taught me, and he looked at me in doubt, before his eyes lit up with knowledge.
— You're the boy who stole my brother! — he accused, suddenly, and I got scared.
— No, no! I didn't steal him, I just wanted to be his friend, but Sirius can totally have two brothers, he would never stop being your brother! — I defended myself, a little desperate, because it looked like he was going to start crying again.
— Totally? — he asked, looking at me doubtfully.
— Totally — I confirmed, but he still didn't seem convinced.
— Pinkie swear? Andy says if you break your oath, I might cut your finger off,” he said, raising his little finger as if it were a threat, narrowing his eyes, and I let out a startled laugh, but wrapped my finger around his.
— Pinky swear — I said, cracking a smile when he smiled at me.
— All is well then.
— But then, why were you crying before? — I asked, almost regretting it when his eyes filled with water again.
— I hurt my foot, so I can't play with you, but I really wanted to play with Sirius, it's his birthday! He only does one a year! — he murmured, looking increasingly sad, and I felt sad with him.
When I looked more closely at his foot, I realized it was bandaged, and I felt even more sorry for him.
— Don't be like that, Reggie, you can play with him when you get better, you don't have to play with him just on his birthday — I assured him, and he nodded, as if he already knew, but he remained dejected.
But he was so cute and small, he couldn't cry like that.
— Wait here, I'll be right back — he said, running towards the entrance, where the party was taking place.
I ran past a little Fred, who shouted that he had already seen me, but I ignored him, continuing on my way, focused on my objective.
As soon as I arrived in front of the house, I walked around the various adults and children that were there, heading towards the flower bed that I had seen when I arrived, with my mother commenting on how beautiful they were.
Arriving sneakily, I was careful with the thorns as I picked up a handful of flowers, which I recognized as roses, even though they were white, completely breaking the meaning of being called “Rose”.
— James Potter, what are you doing with my roses? — I heard Andromeda's scream, Aunt Andy, as she grabbed the last rose, running from her, who was coming towards me.
— It's for a good cause! — I shouted, running past Fred again, who had now joined the others.
— You were the first to be found, it's your turn to knock! — but I ignored them.
When I arrived back at Reggie, I was out of breath, but I had a smile on my face.
— Here! My mom is always happier when Dad gives her flowers, even when she's sick, so that must make you happy — she said, smiling, watching him pick up the flowers, excitedly, but with a growing smile on her face.
— James! It's your turn! Where are you? — Sirius shouted for me.
— Bye, mini Black, I have to go — he said, already starting to run again.
— James! — Reggie's shout made me stop, and I turned around, looking at him questioningly — Thank you — he said, a little lower, with flushed cheeks, but with an open, toothless smile and I let out a laugh, simply because I was happy. .
— Be careful with the thorns and hide this from your aunt — I shouted over my shoulder, running again.
