An unexpected call
No one pov.
It was the fateful night of James and Lily Potter's deaths. As a man in periwinkle robes exits the ruins of a once beautiful home all you can hear is the crying of a young baby.
"Shh, you will stop this nonsense at once.” He says glaring at the boy in his arms.
He knew he had to wait just a bit longer for Hagrid to come retrieve the boy and place him with the Dursleys. He was pleased when they had agreed to take young Harry in. Of Course there were stipulations but he was not the one paying them so it was of no concern to him.
“Ah! Finally you're here. I have him wrapped and ready to be brought to his relatives. I have left a letter for them inside the blanket.” Dumbledore says passing the boy to Hagrid.
Time skip…
Sirius pov.
I can feel the cuffs digging into my skin. How could he? I was loyal to him, a follower, I played as his pawn and now he can't even try to prove my innocence. And what about harry.. He's sending him to those vile people. He knows James and Lily would never approve of such a thing.
“Alright. You get one visit before getting locked up. You may request whoever you like but know if they do not show you shall not be permitted to pick someone else and will be locked up without seeing anyone.” the guard says shoving me into a chair.
I start to think. I don't know anyone who would come if I called besides Moony, but he wouldn't be allowed to come due to his condition. Stupid rule really. I need to call someone who may be able to get Harry and raise him properly.
“Have you decided? We can not keep waiting for you , imbecile.” the guard urges me.
I growl slightly before replying with the only person that came to mind.
“I would like to call upon Narcissa Malfoy.”
the guard simply nods and talks to another guard before one of them exits. I assume they're going to call her now.
Narcissa’s pov.
I am sitting in the parlor watching Draco play with a little stuffed snake when the floo goes off. It startled me at first. I get up to see who has called. I wasn't expecting any calls today.
“Hello, who is this?” I ask.
“Sorry to disturb mam. I am a guard here at Azkaban and we have a policy that all incoming prisoners get one visit before being put in their cells. Sirius Black the murderer of James and Lily Potter, has requested we call upon you. If you wish to come you can simply come through this call. If not I shall leave and Mr.Black will be put in his cell soon after.” The caller tells me leaving no room for questioning.
Sirius wouldn't have killed the Potters. Why is he going to Azkaban for it?
"Mam do you wish to come or not?” the guard asks impatiently.
This pulls me out of my thoughts.
“Um yes of course, just give me a moment to inform my husband.” i say,
and he simply nods. I stand and rush up the stairs. I slip on a simple gown over my night clothes and lightly shake Lucius awake.
“Lucius, you must go watch Draco for a short bit. I will return before you have to go to work but I have some business to attend to.” I tell him as he dresses.
“Is everything alright dear?” he asks but I do not have time for questions.
“We will talk when I get home. I don't have time to discuss it all now.” I informed him.
He nods and leans down to give me a quick kiss before heading downstairs with me not far behind him. As we enter the sitting room I say goodbye to Draco and use the floo to head to where they are keeping Sirius.
Narcissa's pov.
As I enter I see Sirius chained to a chair, his head hanging down. He slowly looks up and sees me. His eyes seem pleading. The guard pulls a chair out for me and I sit putting my hands on the table.
“Hello Sirius it has been quite a long time” i say,
I don't know why he chose to call me but he has to have had a reason.
"Hello Cissa, I am truly sorry it has been so long. A certain man had blinded me into his beliefs. I have not called you here to discuss that though.” he says,
I was taken aback at first by the use of the old nickname but then by the formal tone of voice. I have not heard him use such a tone since before he ran away.
“I assumed as much. I do hope that when whatever this is it gets cleared up for you. Once so will be visiting more often. You do have a godson from me now." I tell him.
He was unaware I named him godfather of Draco but even if we don't have the same views I know he would never let a child be neglected. I see his eyes widen and a brief and small smile appear just as quickly as it disappears.
“Yes well if i ever truly get a trial and i'm free i'll be sure to stop by. Now to the matter at hand. I need to know the truth. Did Voldemort truly kill the James and Lily?” he asks
I see the guard stiffen a little and I know I can't outwardly express my standing on the dark lord. But I know he didn't kill the Potters, he's been in his quarters trying to devise a way to avoid killing the Potter boy. He does not wish to believe the prophecy and have to kill a child.
“I'm not sure what it is you mean, Sirius. I have not had any contact with Voldemort since my husband and I left his side over a decade ago. As I'm sure you're aware. We would never follow a man that mindlessly kills. Let alone kills children.'' I say hoping he will read between the lines.
As his eyes widen I smile knowing he understands what I meant.
“Well I suppose that brings me to my next question. Well it's more of a desperate request. Cissa Dumbledore is sending Harry to his muggle relatives Lily's sister.” he tells me.
I gasp. I was once friends with young Lily and clearly remember her showing up to Hogwarts with several bruises or cuts from her jealous sister who despises magic. Why would they put the apparent savior of the wizarding world at those vile people's home? And does that mean the Potter have truly died? But the dark lord never went there so who murdered them?
"Mam you have 5 more minutes with the convict.” the guard informs me.
I nod and look at Sirius once more.
“Where do these muggles live? I shall fulfill your request but just know I will prove your innocence and you will get to be the godfather Lily and Mr.Potter wanted you to be to their son." I say trying to keep my composure.
Sirius smiles, tears brimming his eyes. We just sat for a minute trying to collect ourselves.
“They live at number 4 privet drive little whinging surrey. Dumbledore would have dropped him off late last night. Thank you Narcissa. I'll never be able to repay you.” he says, breaking into sobs.
I feel myself start to tear up. As the guard ushers me out of the room and escorts me to the floo to head back home. When I enter I see Lucius on the ground with Draco sitting on his stomach giggling.
“Hello darling, is everything alright?” Lucius asks
He stands bringing draco up with him.
“Yes it will be fine but we must discuss a very important thing. I do believe you will need to take the day off as there will be a lot to do.'' I tell him.
He nods understanding how serious I am and hands me Draco so he can step out and inform the ministry of his absence. When he reenters the room I sit down and pour him and I some tea after setting Draco in his playpen.
“Alright. Are you aware of the Potters' deaths?” I ask before anything else.
He nods, passing me the daily profit that came while I was out. The cover is an article on their deaths.
“Okay good that's less explaining I must do. I'm unsure of who killed them but as the article states their son Harry is alive. Sirius Black has been charged for the murder of both Mr. and Mrs.Potter. I assume you know this is just not possible. Moving on I was just with Sirius as I was the person he called for his last conversation. He informed me that Albus Dumbledore has placed Harry with his muggle Aunt and Uncle. As you know I was once friends with Lily and those muggles are no good. They will surely abuse the poor boy. Sirius has requested we take in Harry. At Least for the time being until I can find a way to get him a trial." I give him all the information, not wishing to delay any longer.
