Chapter 3
Ava was shocked at how long it took for word to get out about her attacking the Weasley. But, once it did she received dirty looks from the Hogwarts students for numerous reasons. Some liked Ron, some thought violence was unneeded, and others thought it was dirty to fight like a muggle.
The next incident happened in Defence a few days later. The students pile into the room so far they had only had Professor Lupin but today Professor Umbridge was there.
“I don’t know what the half breed has been telling you,” Ava’s eyes snap to the pink toad in the front of the room and her eyes catch Professor Lupin retreat back slightly, “but we won’t be using any magic in this class.” Murmurs break out among the students. “So put your wands away and pull out the book you were assigned.” Most of the students listen slamming their books onto their desk but those from Nightingale look towards Ava and Ezra. Both of which have put their feet on their desks. Ava is twirling her wand her blue gray eyes now with an amber ring trained on Umbridge daring her. Ezra has his wand in hand tapping it on his thigh. Some of the Nightingale students follow their lead and Ezra smirks.
“Umbridge I’m unsure how you got this position if you believe this class can be taught without a wand. Maybe your looking for History?” Ezra calls out towards her.
“What is your name?”
“Ezra number 14 of Nightingale orphanage. Even though if you had been to class before today you’d know that.”
“I am the ministers Undersecretary I had a duty to fulfill before coming to this school.”
“So you are unqualified to teach this class?”
“I’m more qualified than some dark creature a half breed at that.” A growl rips itself from Ava’s throat her eyes completely a glowing amber. “So I will be taking over the curriculum you all will be learning, Minister’s orders.”
“Ava calm down.” Erza whispers in his friends ear hoping she actually listens. “How are we to protect ourselves if we don’t practice the spells?”
“And what would you need to defend against?”
“Maybe the dark lord since he came back last year.”
“He who must not be named has not returned that is just a lie.” A spell flies through the air and Umbridge is hit with a stinging jinx.
“Oops, maybe if you knew how to defend yourself that wouldn’t have hit you.” Ava says a smile on her face. “By the way I’m Ava of Nightingale original number 29 then 35, then 40 and finally number 67.”
“Well Ava that was highly inappropriate.”
“So was you insulting a fellow professor and all creatures and those with creature blood.” Ava’s currently amber eyes stay locked on the woman.
“Is it now?”
“Considering if you did any research you’d find out we have multiple students with creature blood in the school and some of us don’t take well to being insulted, or watching another being insulted by a pink toad.”
“What creature could you possibly be to take offense to me saying the truth about werewolves. They are dangerous, dark half breeds.” A smirk forms on Ava’s face.
“You missed the signs? I’m half wolf I don’t shift but I have quite a few traits from them.”
“You mean someone reproduced with one? Probably wasn’t willingly.” Umbridge says with disgust. Ava growls again and stands from her chair.
“Umbitch I’m not sure how much you know about any orphan let alone me but I don’t take well to insults towards anyone over things they can’t control or the blood purist or creature hate shit.”
“Detention tonight with me after dinner.”
“Okay.” Ava says knowing she wasn’t going. “So are you going to sit down and let the actual teacher we all want here teach or am I good to go because I am not wasting my time reading in a class that is meant to be hands on.”
“You will sit there and read like everyone else.” Another spell flies past Umbridge.
“Yeah no either Professor Lupin teaches or I walk out and never show back up while you’re here.”
“How do you plan on taking your O.W.L.S. then?”
“I don’t need to actually be here to take my owls. I could go to the ministry tomorrow and take my defense O.W.L.S and pass.”
“What makes you so sure?”
“Unlike Hogwarts we had the same teacher for many years, he worked with all of us based on our skills. I read this book before it teaches nothing. It is useless even with a practical side of things. Professor’s Lupin’s choice you can actually learn from.”
“My book is ministry approved.”
“There are a lot of things that are ministry approved that suck. Like just because Nightingale’s first 3 orphans are the children of arrested death eaters we are given almost no funds, while First Light and New Dawn take most of the donations.”
“They have the most orphans and need more money.”
“Really because last I checked they had the highest adoption rates in the first few years. Currently Nightingale has the highest count of orphans and receives minimal money from the ministry. Most of what keeps us running is donations and money from the orphans working different jobs.”
As Ava continues to argue with Umbridge some dots begin to connect in Remus’s head. Her being part wolf along with her age and her hair all match that of his daughter, the lost child of him and his true friends, Ariel. Mooney is screaming at him but he blocks out the wolf. Dumbledor swore up and down Ariel was dead, and who was he to question Dumbledor. The man had done so much for him. He was sure it was just wishful thinking. Class came to an end and right after the students left Remus did as well. Trying to avoid Umbridge at all cost. Why she was teaching he had no clue. He heads back to his room and makes a cup of tea and sits reading a book.
“I can’t believe that toad!” Ava growls out as her and Ezra approach Tara and Noah.
“What happened? Who are you calling a toad?” Tara asks walking over to her friends when she is pulled back by Noah.
“Hey pretty girl whos brought out the wolf?”
“That stupid toad of a woman who calls herself a teacher! She finally shows up and insults Professor Lupin and all of us with creature blood within the first 10 minuets of class.”
“She did what!?”
“She called Lupin a half breed and a dark creature! Then insinuated my wolf parent forced themselves onto my other parent.” Noah hugs Ava to his chest and pets her hair. “Then she refused to acknowledge the return of the dark lord and gave me a detention.”
“Are you going to go?”
“Fuck no, shes loony I’m not being around her more than I have to be.” The group nods and walks off to their next class, Runes with Professors Black and Babbling.
Sirius had been in a discussion with Bathsheda when the door opens and four students enter, he recognized them from the feast and gives them each a smile when he catches the one girls eyes change from amber back to a blue gray color. Another wolf, he thinks to him self, wonder what caused the inner wolf to surface. He pushes the thought from his brain and greets them.
“Hello…” Before he gets a chance to ask their names the boy with reddish brown hair speaks up.
“I’m Ezra, thats Noah, Ava and Tara.”
“Right well take your seats.” Sirius looks over them and watches them as he continues his conversation with Bathsheda about what they were going to be teaching. Meanwhile the four friends are talking in hushed voices. But thanks to Padfoot Sirius can hear it.
“Are you sure you want to do it tonight Ava?”
“Yes, we are a few weeks into classes, headmaster won’t be expecting it.”
“It is tradition at this point Ezra we do it every year I’ve already had a few people ask me about when we will be doing it.”
“Plus tonight in a new moon, the correct constellations are in the sky.” Ava interjects, “Two birds one stone.”
“Everything seems to align for tonight. I ran the numbers.” Tara adds, “Don’t tell us you aren’t prepared Ezra.”
“I am I just wanted to make sure we are all ready and sure. If anything goes wrong…”
“Well a birdy told me that the minister would be here tonight and all the parents will be at dinner.”
“I can get the word out to those who we need.”
“Okay so tonight at dinner it is.”
“Ava I know this is a dumb question by why do we need a new moon?”
“The magic I’m using is stronger under a new moon.”
“Got it.” Soon more students file in and the class begins. Sirius stops focusing on the four friends and turns his full attention on the class.
“Today Professor Black and I have to decide to give each of you a quiz based on scores from the past 2 years to determine where we should start this year. There will be runic alphabets that probably haven’t been covered in class just do your best.” With that Babbling waves her wand and parchment appears in front of every student.
Sirius walks around the room watching for cheating and to see how the class as a whole is doing. He gets by the four friends and sees that two of them are almost done and the other two aren’t that far behind. With that he walks back to the front of the room and takes a seat as Babbling takes a turn walking around the room. His fingers itch to pull out the files from his bag. Him and Remus had been given a file for each Orphan to know about their students, he hadn’t read them yet he wanted to go in blind but now he wanted to see the information on those four. He eyes the class and pulls out his bag. He flips through the files quickly grabbing the first one with one of their names on it.

Before Sirius could read more Babbling tapped his shoulder signaling it was time to collect the quizzes. He tucked the file away to finish reading later and collected the quizzes. He sees the defeated look on Hermione’s face as he took her’s and gave her a small nod before continuing along.
“Once I have your quiz you may leave, scores will be given next class.” Sirius says and those he had collected from stand and leave. He finally gets to the friends and they all hand him their quizzes he notices that the way Ava’s letters are shaped are similar to that of him and his brother. He pushes it out of his mind and walks back to the desk and sets the quizzes down. He passes half of them to Bathsheba and they begin grading them.
