Broke
"We can leave you know?" Remus says, stroking Sirius' bare chest with his hand.
"You would never have to see them again, and we could build our own life." Remus adds.
As Sirius thinks he feels Remus' fingers stroke the scars he had gotten from his family over the years, maybe he did need to leave.
"How though? We're broke and have no education."
Remus shrugs, "We'll figure it out."
And figure it out they did. Sirius collected all his money, and so did Remus. Sirius' uncle giving him a nice chunk, and Remus loaned some from his parents.
Off to start a new life.
Sirius leaves in the middle of the night, meeting Remus down the street. Taking the night bus to a small town three hours away.
"There's a cottage for 800 pounds a month, cheapest I could find. We'll both get a job, and one of us can try and go to school."
Sirius nods sleepily, falling asleep on his boyfriends shoulder a minute later.
Remus wakes him up and they leave the bus with their three bags, off to start a new life.
Sirius gets a job at the local supermarket, which was nice so he could get groceries on discount. And Remus got a job at the local bookshop.
The cottage was tiny as stated. One bathroom, one bedroom, a small office, a kitchen and a living room. But they loved it.
Many nights were lay cuddling together with many blankets on so they could avoid the high electricity bills.
"Do you think it was worth it?" Remus asks, three months after moving.
Sirius nods. They were in bed a late night, Sirius watching the bright moon outside if his window.
"Anything to be with you."
Remus smiles and kisses his cheek before. wrapping himself around him to go to sleep.
—2 years later—
"Should we buy a bigger house?"
Remus looks over to his boyfriend in the kitchen making them lunch. "We have enough, why the thought?"
Sirius shrugs stirring the soup he was making.
Over the 2 years they had saved and saved, and now they were doing pretty good.
Whilst working Sirius had gone to school to become a tattoo artist and piercer, and now he was in practise at the shop.
Remus had used his literature class from school to apply for a more secure job at the library, which he got.
"I saw a house on sale, three bedroom, two bathroom, big kitchen."
Remus nods thoughtfully. "I don't see why not, we've saved up for a reason."
Sirius nods but Remus sees a sly smile in his face as he outs down the bowls. "What are you thinking of love?"
"I'm just happy we've done so well all on our own."
Remus grins. "Me too."
—2 years later—
With a new house under the belt, both with above average careers the couple were doing good. So good they could consider affording a wedding.
"If I were to, hypothetically, maybe propose, would you say yes?" Remus asks, grinning at the ever so slightly hypothetical question.
Sirius also laughs and looks at his lovers smile under the sunrise. "Of course I would, we're on our second house together!"
Remus laughs, that was true. "Glad to know."Sirius smiles and slips his boyfriend a small kiss.
"Why? Is Moony thinking of a proposal?"
"Nooo! What are you on about?!"
They both laugh and a week later they were officially engaged.
Officially non-broke, and officially happy at last.
