Partner
Sirius shared everything with Remus. Well almost everything. There was one thing they hadn't told Remus, one pretty big thing.
Sirius was non-binary. And had to tell Remus.
They had told James, who accepted them of course, but kept it a secret from Remus for now.
Because Remus was gay, what if he didn't like Sirius anymore. What if he felt embarrased having a partner and not a boyfriend. Or what if he didn't accept it in general.
Which is why Sirius kept it secret for a whole month.
Sirius was fiddling with his fingers on Remus' stomach. They were hanging out, and were currently watching a new series on Remus' TV.
"What's up love? You seem anxious." Remus says gently placing his hands in Sirius' to stop the fidgeting.
Sirius was quiet for a moment, but knew how important it was to tell Remus.
"I need to talk to you about something."
Remus nods, looking worried. He pauses the TV to focus on what Sirius had to say.
"I don't know how to say it, so I'm just going to say it straight out." They say. Remus nods, biting his lip nervously as he waits.
"I think I'm non-binary, or I don't think, I am non-binary."
Remus goes quiet. Dead silent.
Not because he doesn't support Sirius, this is just a big change, a very abrupt change.
"Oh" Is all Remus can force out. And whilst doing so is slapping himself internally knowing it's a stupid thing to say to someone coming out.
Sirius' eyes widen, and Remus knows he's fucked up.
Sirius grabs their phone and leaves Remus' room heading for the door.
"No Sirius wait." Remus says running after him. He sees Sirius putting his shoes on with tears running down his eyes.
"Fuck off Remus, is that all you had to say? Heading to James."
Before Remus could say anything the door was slammed in his face and he had never felt so stupid before.
——
An hour later Remus was checking Sirius' position to make sure he had made it safely to James'.
Remus felt horrible about how he had handled the situation and after awhile he calls his Sirius.
He was surprised when the phone picked up.
"Hey." He hears on the other line, Sirius sounds mostly sad.
"Hey Sirius, look I'm so sorry about how I reacted, can we meet somewhere nearby to talk?"
It's silent on the other line, Remus thinks he hears James muttering something.
"Okay yeah, park in half an hour?"
Remus nods, then remembers Sirius can't see he's nodding. "Yeah sure, I love you."
And the line ended.
——
Remus sees Sirius appear at the park and Remus suddenly is quite anxious. Let's not fuck it up this time.
"Okay Sirius I want to put something straight
before we talk."
Sirius nods looking unsure, they sit on a bench nearby and Sirius gets ready to hear Remus' explanation.
"I'm not going to break up with you, I'm terribly sorry for my reaction, and I'm really interested for you to share this with me."
A tiny smile appears on Sirius' face, Remus is a great boyfriend after all.
"Thank you, and I'm sorry for blurting it out on you, I was just scared."
Remus nods, he could see how it's scary.
"What has changed? Like with labels and stuff, so I know."
Sirius starts fidgeting with his jumper strings, and Remus holds his hand instead to help his nerves.
"My pronouns, i prefer they/ them. But it's fine if you misgender me in the start, this is new for you guys as well."
Remus nods. "I'm going to try my best, and I'm sorry in advance if I do let it slip."
Sirius smiles at that. "Boyfriend as well, I'd prefer partner really."
"Well I think my partner is looking pretty damn cute if I don't say so myself."
Sirius grins and moves in to give Remus a big hug. "Thank you for being understanding, and I'm sorry for running out."
Remus laughs. "Don't worry I wanted to slap myself after that."
Sirius leans in for a kiss, which they definitely share. Remus' hands digging in Sirius' hair.
"I love you so much Sirius."
"I love you most Remus."
