“Sirius?” James said in an uncertain voice.
“Yes, what's up?” Sirius said, looking up from his book.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Yes, of course.” Sirius frowned, confused at his best friend's unusual behaviour.
“Hypothetically, if you were to fall in love with a sibling of one of your friends, what would you do? Would you just go for it and ask them out? Or would you keep your distance?” James looked down at his book. Sirius furrowed his eyebrows.
“I'd never fall for a friend’s sibling, almost none of us have one, I never fell for Danny, and I don't want to meet Lily's muggle sister, she sounds awful.”
“I said hypothetically.” James said. Sirius hopped off his bed and sat down on James' next to him.
“What are you on about?” He asked, confused.
“'S just a random question, Pads.” James shrugged, avoiding his gaze.
“Okay... I.. I think it would depend on the situation.” Sirius said, pondering. James sighed.
“A sibling of a close friend who you've been introduced to, and you became friends with, but you fell for them. You're pretty sure they like you back, but you're scared to lose their sibling who just so happens to be one of your closest friends.” He took a deep breath.
“So specific…” Sirius frowned. “Alright. I think I would just go for it. If that friend really cares about you, they should understand that you love each other. Why you asking, Prongs?”
“... What if I were to be in a situation like that?” James didn't dare looking up at his best friend.
“Do you fancy Danny McKinnon?” Sirius asked, surprised.
“No.” James shook his head. Sirius frowned.
“You don't know Lily's sis, do you?” He said, thinking out loud.
“No, not the girls’ sibling.” James sighed, shaking his head again.
“But Moony and Wormtail don't have any sib- ...” Sirius fell quiet, realization hitting him. “You fell in love with Regulus?” He said, surprised. James nodded his head, nervously biting his lip. He still couldn't look at Sirius.
“And you think they like you back?” Sirius asked.
“... If I'm not misunderstanding their actions, then yes.” There was a long moment of silence and James was dreading Sirius' answer more with the second, thinking it could only be a negative one.
“If you are both into each other, I don't see I reason why I should stop you. I want both of you to be happy, if it just so happens that you make each other happy, then fucking go for it.”
“Are you serious?” James asked, looking at him with hopeful eyes.
Sirius smiled. “I always am.”
“No, but seriously.” James rolled his eyes.
“Steal their bloody heart, Prongs. But if you hurt them, I will literally kill you. Same story if they hurt you.”
James jumped up, almost running out of the dorm, before running back and hugging Sirius tightly. “Thank you, Padfoot.” He shouted, before running out to find Regulus.
