Avada Kedavra !”

The familiar green spell hit Dazai in the chest, as he expected. He fell to the ground with a loud thump, his head already spinning. He had gotten much more immune to the effects of magic but the killing curse was still as strong as he remembered.

“Dazai!” He heard someone shout in alarm, but he tuned them out. He had to pretend to be dead, which wasn't very hard when he felt like he could die right then and there. Someone ran over to him, maybe to check if he was dead. He held his breath and steadied his heartbeat to make it beat light enough no one could feel it in his pulse. A hand felt his wrist and his neck, a death eater. Double checking huh. Guess they really want to make sure I'm dead. He heard shuffling and then Voldemort's voice.

“Dazai Osamu is dead!”

There was a loud sob that broke through the students body. Most likely Hermione. He heard gasps and cries at the death of the one person who promised to protect them from Voldemort.

“No..” He heard Draco. “No no no NO! He can't be! He- he promised!” There were grunts and exclamations of protest, probably pulling Draco away.

Blaise watched in horror. He couldn't do or say anything. He found it hard to breathe but he had to calm down for Dazai and himself. He had to help, but he couldn't heal Dazai with episkey . He couldn't bandage any nonexistent wounds.

Dazai wanted to send some comfort, but he had to wait for Voldemort to get near. If he could only get him closer, then everything would go according to plan.

Voldemort watched Dazai, with a victorious feeling in his stomach. He walked towards Dazai. “If you had only joined me, you would've ruled the world with me.”

Hogwarts was silent. They could do nothing. The Hell's Hounds watched Dazai's body on the ground, in tears. They had to believe Dazai was alive, he was immune to magic, but a killing curse… How could he survive that? They couldn't believe he was dead, but they checked his pulse.

“Alas, you refused my offer. Now all the people you were trying to protect,” Voldemort bent to whisper in his ear, “and your precious Port Mafia, will fall. Your little gang will be first-”

Dazai yelled in rage. He grabbed Voldemort's wrist and brought his hand to smack Voldemort in the face. Voldemort roared and backed away.

Everyone watched as Dazai slowly got up from his position and smiled, wiping the blood from his nose and waving. “Don't worry everyone, I'm alive, unfortunately!”

Everyone was too relieved to even roll their eyes, but their relief was too short. “Dazai watch out!”

Avada Kedavra!” Dazai turned around to Voldemort's wand in his face, however instead of getting blasted by a painful green spell, nothing happened. “What? What is this!?”

“Why are your spells not working?” Dazai asked, a shit eating grin on his face. “It's simple really, but I don't think I'm going to explain it. You did try to kill me after all.”

Dazai watched fear growing on Voldemort's face, which was covered in Dazai's blood. Dazai made sure that when he fell, his hand was by his nose to collect his blood in his palm. Dazai's blood was nullifying Voldemort's magic, simply put.

Voldemort attempted more spells to throw at Dazai, but none worked. He gritted his teeth and turned to the death eaters. “What are you waiting for!? Attack him!”

The death eaters jumped and readied their wands. Throwing spells left and right.

Protego.” Dazai released his spell, creating a barrier around him, blocking the other spells. Dazai closed his eyes, remembering all the times he used a spell completely different from how it was supposed to be used.

He remembered how expelliarmus felt and how it was used. Then he thought something so absurd, that Snape might even come back to life to yell at him and tell him how stupid he was. That's what made it a good decision.

Expelliarmus. ” In a split second Dazai released protego and concentrated everything into expelliarmus . Imagining the spell moving from death eater to death eater. Instantly, every death eaters’ wand was knocked out of their hand. Everyone gasped and even the death eaters backed down.

Dazai was so dizzy, but he couldn't let any weakness show. He had to end it here and now. He walked towards a stunned Voldemort.

“Y-You cannot kill me! I have horcruxes all over the world and I will keep coming back and eventually you won't be able to protect the ones you care for!” He stumbled back. Dazai kept walking.

“Oh yeah? When?”

“Whenever I please! You will not have a moment where you won't be paranoid-”

“No. When did I ask?” Dazai stood in front of Voldemort, holding his sharp wand at his glabella. “Sorry to tell you this, but you really don't hold that much of an impact on me. Perhaps I'd be a little paranoid if we hadn't already located and destroyed all your horcruxes. Even then, I fear you as much as I fear a flower.”

Voldemort gasped. “H-how-”

“Oh! My bad I forgot to tell you! Well I guess you'll never know now. It's getting late after all!” Dazai smiled and finally spoke the spell he'd been studying ever since it was first used on him.

Avada Kedavra.”

Voldemort fell and his body slowly but surely disintegrated. Dazai closed his eyes. Goodbye Tom Riddle.

There was silence across the area. Everyone stared at him and the place Voldemort once stood. Dazai stared back. Abruptly, Hogwarts cheered and for a second Dazai let himself cheer too. However, he was quickly losing balance, his head screaming and stomach churning. He let out a pained yelp before falling to his knees, his head in his hands.

“Dazai!” He heard Blaise then the next second he felt his arms around him. Dazai sighed in contentment. Finally at peace. “Dazai…?”

“Hm?”

“Are you okay?”

“What a silly question! Blaise should know-” Dazai collapsed in his arms.

“Hey! Dazai!” Blaise turned around in a panic, holding Dazai to his chest. “We need a medic!”

He knew he should be used to Dazai passing out after exertion, but just like any other time he felt as though this time might be the last. Someone rushed forward and for a minute Blaise didn't want to let Dazai go, but he knew he had to. He watched as 2 people carried Dazai on a stretcher to their makeshift infirmary in the hallway. The Hell's Hounds followed behind the people and surrounded the area making sure Dazai got where he needed to be before getting pushed out so the medics could focus.

“Once again, Dazai got hurt to do something good for Hogwarts and we can only watch.” Hermione looked away guiltily. She was aware that they all had worked together to destroy the Horcruxes, but that felt like nothing when she just watched as Dazai got hit with the killing curse.

“We did do something ‘mione!” Ron comforted her. “Don't feel guilty when we did all we could for him.”

“Ron's right. Dazai wouldn't want us to feel guilty. He'd roll his eyes and say something like ‘ugh you guys are so emotional, even after all this time you whine over me as if we didn't complete another mission’” Blaise said.

The gang laughed.

“He would say that.” Draco agreed.

“And after that impression he'd say ‘Blaise is so mean! I don't talk like that!’ and pout.” George declared, elbowing the place next to him before remembering his twin was no longer there to laugh and join in on his jokes.

The group stood in silence, for once. They all had been so full of adrenaline they never did get a chance to let it all out. George was the first to finally break, his tears pouring. Ron and Ginny were the next. The Weasleys hugged and mourned over the loss of their brother. Hermione was silently crying on the side before being pulled into the hug. Draco's eyes were filled with tears. His mother died protecting him from the dark lord. Pansy walked to his side and hugged him. Blaise stood on the side, watching everyone break down as he silently mourned. He turned away and looked at the place where the death eaters once stood. All of them had either escaped or were knocked out by some spells.

He saw Dazai’s wand on the ground, and went to pick it up. He probably should've been thinking hard about Dazai knocking all the death eaters’ wands out of their hands, but he'd been around Dazai long enough to just let himself be surprised and deal with it.

Blaise was more worried about the fact that now the staff and students of Hogwarts knew that Dazai was somehow immune to the killing curse. What conclusion they'd come to, he had no idea, but he was certain of one thing. He'd stay and protect Dazai from anyone or anything.

At that moment, Blaise noticed someone sneaking to where Dazai was being checked on. Blaise instinctively pulled his wand out and followed behind them. He put Dazai's wand against their neck and held his wand to the back of their head.

“What are you doing?” He asked, a venom in his voice.

“I-I'm not eliminating the demon student! I'm just checking if it's- he's okay!”

“I didn't say you were eliminating him.” Blaise said before knocking them out with a spell.

Like he said, he'd protect Dazai no matter what.
