Doodles on pink bandages.
Kuanjui sighs, sitting up on her bed. The doorknob locked. Alone on another new years, I guess. Alone in this huge ass apartment, her roomate - Gyuvin is out with her stupid fucking boyfriend. And what’s worse is that her boyfriend is Kuanjui’s ex. Her neighbours are super loud, music blasting, screaming. 10 seconds until 2025.
Five…
Four….
Three…
Two..
One.
Everyone around screams and laughs, and she’s here depressed, alone, in an apartment, knowing that her friend, roomate, who’s supposed to spend this new years with her if it wasn’t because of her stupid boyfriend who is also her ex isn’t home.
Alone again, she thought to herself. Or is she?
Her phone lights up with a notification, its not a normal single beep, it beeped twice. She knew who sent the message. Two beeps indicate a message by her bestfriend. Or something more than that. She set a special ringtone, for her, and only her.
“Mutii jie❤️❤️
I have a crush onyou.”
Fuck.

“Kuanjui, you’re already in highschool. You still crying and need me to comfort and take care of a small paper cut..?” Wumuti sighs, she really didn’t just call her to rush over her house thinking something worse happened. It’s just a papercut. It’s smaller than her eyes. Wumuti wraps the pink band-aid over Kuanjui’s thumb, planting a soft kiss on it. “All better.” She smiles. And Kuanjui is for some reason, still crying. “Baby, it’s okay.” Wumuti laughs. Oh she’s so cute when she’s crying and pouty.
“It hurts..” Kuanjui pouts. Still. Crying. For gods sake.
“You want me to doodle on it?”
Kuanjui nods softly. A few hearts and stars are enough to make her feel better.
“You’re sixteen , seriously? You aren’t five anymore.“
“Pleasee jiejie… its just a few hearts…” She pulls out the puppy face. Oh those fucking bubbly eyes.
“Fine..”
-Back in kindergarten-
A loud scream echoed through the playground. Wumuti sprints over. Could it be a unicorn? Unicorns can’t be real..?
Her smile dropped when it wasn’t a unicorn. It was a little girl, probably the same age as her. Crying, with a wound on her knee. But oh, that pretty face. It almost made her forget about the huge ass wound on the knee that needs to be treated immediately. Those eyes. Is someone supposed to look pretty when they cry? If someone’s this pretty, how good looking would their parents be? Fuck. Is she..inlove?
Love at first sight. Love. Dating. It’s all too early for a child like Wumuti. It never attracted her, she never thought it was nice or even plan to be with someone in the future. She is just six afterall, it’s all to early. Plus, romance? Ew. It doesn’t interest her, she doesn’t believe in it. She regrets knowing about this at the age of six, if it weren’t of her catching her brother kissing a girl, and her curios self should’ve stayed curious. Because her brother sat down and explaine his entire, gross, love story. But now, she thinks she’s inlove herself. But is this right…? She’s a girl, and well. The person infront of her is, probably, a girl too. Is this right? It’s okay for girls to date girls..right..? Is she too mature for her age? She kinda hates this. Six year olds are supposed to be watching Peppa Pig, playing with barbies. She’s not inlove, yeah. She just thinks she’s pretty. Thats all. Right? Hopefully.
She quickly snapped out of her thoughts, she didn’t stare too long right? This person needs her help.
“Are you okay?” She reached her hand out.
“No.” The girl replied.
“I’ll walk you to the nurses office?”
“Okay..” The girl hesitated before accepting her hand. Trying to pull herself up. “Ow.. I.. don’t know if I can walk that far.”
“I’ll go get the nurse then, you can uh.. sit at the bench and stay there. I’ll be back soon.” Wumuti realises that the girl is shorter than her. She kinda likes this. “I’m Wumuti.”
“I’m..Chen..Kuanjui..”
She smiles. Maybe this Kuanjui girl can’t be her girlfriend, but maybe she can be her bestfriend. A best friend is all she needs afterall, right?
“Kuanjui, Can I doodle on your bandage?” Wumuti flicks out a pen, ready to draw on it any moment. Consent, people we need to ask for consent.
“Sure, but why?”
“My mom always draws hearts on my bandages to make me feel better when I get hurt. It really works. Maybe it’ll work for you too.” She babbles as she starts drawing hearts on the pink bandage.
“Oo.. okay jiejie.”
“You can call me Muti or Wumuti, y’know?”
“Muti jie.” Kuanjui lets out a weak sigh. Smiling. Oh that smile. That pretty smile. Wumuti has never seen a girl this pretty. No. Beautiful. Those little lips curled up into a smile. That smile belongs there. Right there on Kuanjui’s pretty pretty face. She loves this.
Yeah she has a crush on Kuanjui doesn’t she?
Fuck.
-End of Kindergarten flashback-
“Muti jie, am I too much?”
“Too much of what?” She doesn’t look back at her, focusing on drawing hearts around her bestfriend’s band aid.
“I don’t know.. I’m a crybaby.. and I’m too sensitive.”
“I don’t mind.” She finally looks at that pretty crying face. She loves babying her. In her eyes, all of Kuanjui’s insecurities, cons, its all not there. She’s divine, like an ancient goddess. Those eyes.
“Really, why would I judge you? You’re my best friend.” She wasn’t lying, when Kuanjui’s crying she often asks Wumuti to cheer her up. So thats another good thing for her so she can be with Kuanjui more often. Although she really wishes that she wasn’t just her best friend. “Want a kiss to make it better?”
“..Sure” Kuanjui reaches her hands out. Expecting Wumuti to hug her and plant kisses on her. But not romantically, she doesn’t like her like that. She doesn’t like girls. She isn’t supposed to. They’re just friends, nothing more. Sure, sometimes Kuanjui wants to ask ‘What are we’ but she knows the answer. Just friends, best friends. Friends who kiss and cuddle. Friends who sleep with each other.
Wumuti chuckles. Accepting her hug. Scooting closer and planted multiple kisses on her neck.
“Better?” Wumuti hums.
“Mhm.” Kuanjui breathes out a soft moan. Sensitive. Wumuti loves this.
Guess that also helped with the crying.
Wumuti sighs, throwing her keys on the table. Plopping herself onto her couch. Another day, another missed chance to tell her bestfriend how she feels about her.
“Quit sighing you chinese lesbian.” Jingxiang throws a bunny plush onto Wumuti’s face. Strawberry scented. Must be the one where Rui gifted. Wait, where did he get this from? Her room is ALWAYS locked, and this is always in her room. Eh, she’s too tired to care, this is a problem for future Jingxiang to recieve a scolding from his sister.
“Ouch.. you bitch. Is that a compliment or an insult?” She screams at her brother.
“I don’t know? Lalalalala lala lalaalala” He sticks his tounge out teasing her. Seriously? He’s 18. He should act 18, not like a 12 year old immature boy that still bullies his sister.
“You’re 18, grow up.”
“You’re too mature for your age. You act like you’re 19.”
“I do?” She doesn’t even realise it. Isn’t this how all 17 year olds are supposed to act like? They aren’t in elementary or middle school anymore. This is high school. People should grow up. They’re literally in their freshman year, and also one year left into adulthood.
“Anyway, just saying, but friends with benefits don’t work. Especially in same-sex relationships. I had one of those but it was a girl and it didn’t work out well because we made it complicated. If you wanna stay in touch with Kuanjui, you guys should try to talk about it and make sure it doesn’t get complicated.” Jingxiang mentioned in a serious tone.
“Okay? I’m basically an adult. I dont need your help. I can solve my own problems.”
“Whatever. Good night.” Wumuti slams her bedroom door and locks it. Plopping herself onto her bed, staring at the glow in dark star stickers she put up with Kuanjui when they were in middle school.
