When Regulus Black was 5 years old, if you asked him to point out his father in a crowd he’d struggle. his mother? slight struggle, but found her nonetheless. his brother? easy. he’d know his brother from anywhere. his grandmother?also easy. i mean, him and his brother were always around her, ofcourse they spot her with ease.
regulus remembers learning how to cook by the time he was four. his grandmother teaching him and sirius. she also taught them how to wash dishes, fold clothes. do laundry, by the time he was 6 he did more then most middle aged men. ofcourse, that’s what happens when your always at your grandmas house. your own room having no character, no style. you and your brother making home to the guest room in the back of her house.
Regulus Black was 7 when he learned that some people can be mean. he liked swimming, he loved it actually. him and his grandfather would go swimming every now and then in his grandmothers pool. his brother too. and his grandmother if she was feeling up to it. but this night was different..something seemed wrong. maybe it was the storm in the late summer evening sky? yes. that was the only reason to explain it.
⚠️ (SA WARNING)⚠️
his grandfather sat in the pool, in a wall sit, while watching regulus pretend he was a chef. he got new googles that covered his nose and eyes, and they were green!! he came over and noticed his grandfather slowly walking towards the stairs. oh, are we getting out now? ok… regulus was bummed at first but then noticed his grandfather had no intention of getting out of the pool. only pushing his bathing suit bottoms down and throwing them onto the deck. regulus was confused. sure, he’s showered sitting on the floor in the bathtub infront of his also naked grandma, but that’s because she didn’t trust him yet. and wanted to make sure he was clean. this was new. his grandfather turned and told him it was ok. this is ok. this is normal. so regulus copyed him. now they were both in the pool, skinny dipping. 7 & 68. but they are family so everything’s ok! regulus sees his grandfather sit agian, in the wall squat like a chair, but notices his legs are wide enough to swim through and gets a cool idea. he can be a shark and swim through that tunnel! so he does. when he comes back up, he asks if his grandfather saw him. but no, his vision is bad so regulus does this again. and again. and again. untill finally, his grandfather pulls him onto his leg and kisses his head. tells him he loves him. regulus feels it again. the feeling that something’s wrong. something bad is going to happen. he hears thunder. ofcourse! people in a pool are more likely to get stoked by lightning! he tells his grandfather they should go inside. it’s unsafe. his grandfather tells him not to worry, waits for the next boom, and counts. once he gets to thirty, thunder roars again. 30 miles, his grandfather tells him. but that’s too close for regulus. so he decides that even f his grandfather stays in the pool, he’s getting out. he goes to swim towards the stairs before feeling a light but strong grip on his wrist pulling him back. his grandfather tells him why go. they’re having fun. but regulus feels it again. and it’s only getting stronger. i’m hungry. is all he says before getting out. grabbing a towel and going back inside. going back to the guest room. sirius is at some boys house. so he puts on clothes. his bedroom is right across from his grandfather and that makes him uneasy for some reason. he decides that night, he will sleep in a chair in the living room with his grandmother.
⚠️warning over ⚠️
regulus black is 10 years old when he realizes he doesn’t know what dad looks like. besides a rare occasion he’s free, he never sees dad. always busy, always working. o time his dad was in america for 3 months because of work. he was actually everywhere alot. regulus sees his dad and notices that he doesn’t look an awful lot like him. but definitely less then sirius, who’s almost a carbon copy. which isn’t saying much as his parents look like twins sometimes. he learns his dad is nice. but sometimes he says messed up stuff..his dad once said that he hated his birthday, june..something..because of “pride month” whatever that meant, he asked sirius but sirius look uneasy like he knew, but is scared what would happen if regulus did too. another time he over heard his dad say “it’s always black history month. where’s white history month” which made no sense. why would we celebrate something so..cruel? his father was confusing. but he still loved him
regulus was 13 when he realized his mother is not the hero he thought she was. he heard a radio play a few weeks ago, before someone shut it off. “my parents are hero’s, their just like me” at first he didn’t get it. but the older he gets, the more that he’s sees. his parents aren’t hero’s. but he won’t be like them. he refuses. they are cruel sometimes. they can be kind and good but he sees that less and less lately. if he can’t rely on his parents, he turns to who raised him. taught him how to ride a bike, taught him how to swim, taught him how to write, taught him to read, taught him everything. grandmother and sirius. he felt bad his older brother had to step in as a parental figure when he was only 4. but his brother never complains. never yells, never hit. sure there’s sibling rivalry, the occasional fights over who gets the bigger piece, but nothing rude. nothing like his weight. nothing like his hair or clothes, or his face or skin. nothing bad. his mother once threw him into their wall. he doesnt know what the wall is made off, but his mother was strong enough to leave a dent. a dent he runs his hand over, feeling the deepest part every time he walks by. his mother made a forced apology, like she didn’t care he got hurt. his arm was bruised for weeks but he didn’t tell anyone.
regulus black was almost 15 when he learned his brother had a lot more injuries then him. he knew getting the “you look just like your mom” set regulus off. but sirius was like he was..disgusted with himself. if he looked like her so much, what would happen if he became her? regulus sat in his room as he listened to sirius choke out something..sirius was out of chocolate and his mother had said something. he doesn’t know what but it made sirius mad. sirius said he was so tired of it when regulus said something snarky or rude and no one bats and eye, but the second he says something then all hell is raised. regulus was upset. sirius knew that isn’t how it is. why would he say that. he waits until sirius goes to his room to follow him. he sits on his bed and tries to get sirius to answer him. he’s upset and hurt, but he won’t show it. sirius will get more upset. he doesn’t want that to happen. so when sirius says leave he does. he closes the door and sees walburga meet him face to face. he doesn’t move. he stays in the way. when she pushes him out of the way, he only pushes harder. he stays there between her and that shut door. refusing to move. he doesn’t care that when sirius said something rude a few days ago she came to comfort him and defend him. because that’s what siblings do. they say something rude and are fine a few hours later. but for their own mother to make them feel like dirt under her heel made him mad. he wanted to say it so badly but it wouldn’t come out. she he stood. and he blocked. he wouldn’t let the situation get worse knowing he could’ve done something. finally, walburga backs off. muttering words that sound like ‘i hate being a boy mom’ under her breathe and then goes to her room slamming the door shut. he sighs a sigh of relief. stays a little longer, the goes back to his own room shaking and terrified she’ll come in to his room. or worse, she’ll go into sirius.
regulus is 15 when he realizes he shouldn’t shake. he got a new book. his grandma bought it, about a trans boy with powers falling in love with an autistic boy. he was excited. he wanted to expand his collection. but it was left in the living room. his mother saw it. and said something that mad regulus run to the living grab the book and run. hides it, shaking. what will she do? if she find out she’ll burn it. she’ll burn him!he sits in his room until he clams down but continues shaking.
regulus was 14 when he realized he should know how to fly. most kids his age do anyway. and he comes from a pure blood family. so ofcours she should know. sirius was flying once he was 13. why should he be any different? maybe they forgot. ofcourse. they forgot how old he is and he should be at least learning how to fly before his flyers test. but his parents said he has two more years, he can wait untill then. so he does. he’s about to be 15, he asked again. but no, he doesn’t need to know the basics untill december. so he waits. he doesn’t know a lot of stuff. the stuff you only know if you practice flying. instead of just reading the book. so he guess and passes somehow. he figures since he gets his day license in 6 months, he’ll get to practice now. no. he has to wait untill he’s 16. so he does. he does well and gets the day license but he still doesn’t get to learn? two weeks before his 16gb birthday he asks again. he parents told him he can wait. but he’s tired. and fights back. no, he can’t wait. he has his license test in 2 weeks and still doesn’t know how to drive. if he dies in a ditch it’s on them. the last but seemed to work.
regulus black was 18 when he realized the best feeling in the world is moving out and cutting contact.
