Sirius spent the entire night gushing about Remus to his new and beloved dorm mates, and the three spent the entire night teasing each other and the couple making fun of Sirius' very obvious crush. The Skittles, and Marlene, had spent most of the evening with them but eventually retired to their respective houses and dorms. Sirius took this time to ask the hard questions that could make or break a lot of his friendships. When he received the go ahead from Severus he practically jumped on him from sheer excitement.
Meanwhile in the Gryffindor common room Lily had spent the entire night talking with Remus. She admitted to having figured out about his lycanthropy and assured him that this didn’t change how she felt about her friend in the slightest. Lily also ended up pressuring him to tell her what had happened during herbology. Remus told everything from ‘The Prank’ to what Sirius had said about the women that raised him. Lily told Remus that while she understands that he loves and cares for Sirius, his friend has done something that could’ve gotten him killed all over some stupid childhood rivalry. This made Remus’ perspective about the entire situation once again do a 180.
The next day a tension could be felt in the air and many in 6th year knew that some chaos was bound to unfold and it would make or break people and their friendships.
Sirius wakes up happier than he ever has even before ‘The Prank’, his more than normal cheery mode annoys his friends and the Skittles. He startles half of the student body of Hogwarts along the way from the sheer happiness in his voice and the glint of mischief they had learned to associate with pranks. When Sirius made his way to breakfast he had looked up in search of his Moony but had found no eyes to meet his own.
This not only hurt Sirius but angered both Severus and Bruce knowing how close Lupin was to Evans and how she never gave up. Severus and Bruce threw glances of understanding towards each other knowing that Lily Evans hate towards them and her black and white view of the world would always make her naive of true understanding and the ability to just leave things in the past.
Sirius marched his way to his classes silently but filled with hope only speaking when Bruce or Severus spoke to him and to say good bye when they dropped him off at Transfiguration.
Remus was already sitting in his normal seat and as Sirius walked towards him with a hopeful look on his face a flash of red gets in the way of his single minded goal.
Sirius looks up to find none other than Lily Evans glaring at him, before finally tuning in on what she is saying, “leave Remus alone he doesn’t need a leech like you in his life”. Sirius stares at Evans with a mixture of confusion and annoyance before he slyly answers. “I may be a leech but at least I don’t abandon my friends when they need me the most and, I definitely don’t let them face something that could kill them alone.” Sirius turns around and lets his hair swing and fan out before silently walking to the other side of the room as everyone stares in shock at Sirius’ rather loud declaration.
Sirius spends the rest of the class doing his work and throwing, what he hopes are, sly looks at Remus without catching the glares Evans keeps throwing at him. The first time he does it he finds Remus already looking at him and they hold each other’s eyes for a second while trying to convey every thought into a single facial expression.
Remus can’t stop trying to apologize with his face that it brings a soft smile to Sirius’s. Just as Sirius is about to blow him a kiss Evans looks up to find out why her deskmate has stopped writing and throws a glare at Sirius when she sees why. Sirius just ignores her and flips her off while he looks at Remus and blows him a kiss.
He turns around just as Professor McGonagall is walking up to him and gives her a sly smile as he says while shrugging “I'm not going to apologize for something I don’t regret.”
The professor just sighs and walks away continuing with her teaching. At the end of class Sirius doesn’t rush to leave the class like he had done on the days he was avoiding the Marauders. He waits for Remus at the door as he walks with Evans beside him and James and Peter behind him. When they finally reach the door Sirius reaches out for Remus’ arm and was batted away by Lily as the Marauders watched in fright, because no one besides James or Remus himself was allowed to bat Sirius away from HIS MOONY.
As this was going on the Skittles and Sirius’ new door mates walked in just in time to watch the scene happen, and only Regulus and Pandora notably react with winces and gasps respectively. The rest of the newly formed group watch in interest as Sirius directs a murderous glare towards Lily and says, “Your mother may be one of the kindest souls on earth but it is clear that she gave birth to not one but TWO daughters with no Merlin damned common sense,” he then turns toward Remus and co. and says with a sickening sweet smile, “about what we were talking about yesterday, dear Sevy has agreed to allowing you to be privy to knowledge.” Sirius blows Remus a kiss for the second time that day and turns on his heels with his usual dramatic flair before walking out with his new friends and brother following behind him.
Remus stares after his Padfoot with a slight tint to his cheeks before he remembers what led them to be in such an awkward position. Remus stares Lily down, as she turns toward him to berate Sirius, and coldly says, “Do Not Ever think that our friendship is dear enough to me that you have the Right to brush HIS hand away from me.”
Lily stands there gaping, while James stood behind Remus with a slightly miffed expression, and Peter with a for the most part disinterested but slightly smug smile.
Remus heads out the classroom to go after Sirius but finds the hall deserted as he frowns slightly, a flying parcel lands on his head and it reads “My dear Moony love, if you wish to find me we will be in the room where one can find anything and everything yet nothing at all you know what to say for the room to open when the sun goes down and the moon comes up in two days time.” James and Peter have catched up to Remus and as James read out loud over Remus’ shoulders Peter read a muggle fiction Hope Lupin had gifted him.
Though he is not paying attention, Peter is able to decipher the riddle even quicker than Remus and calmly says, “He is talking about the Room of Requirements and he is saying to use the Marauder's password Friday after sundown.” Both James and Remus stare at Peter in surprise that is quickly followed by a look of guilt not only for doubting their friend but also for the fact that they forgot how smart Peter could be, and that the only reason for his low grades in class were simply from lack of care for his classes. Both James and Remus look at Peter, slightly astonished knowing that Peter’s grades are quite low even if he does like to read from time to time. Peter looks at the two and, with a nonchalant tone says, “Hope gave me a lot of murder mystery books and most of them had riddles to find the killer.” With a pensive look Peter closes his current book and says, “Though I will admit that specific words and phrases in these poems were highlighted, and if what Sirius is saying is true what if it had been a message?” Remus looks at Peter with a pained yet miffed face and said, “Then we’ll take the books with us on Friday and see what Sirius and co. Have to say about the theory Wormtail.”
